CRAIG GLAZER WELCOMES ANGEL SALAZAR

TKC Note: Our pal Craig Glazer offers a preview of his weekend plans. Check it:

Say ‘Hello’ to my little friend:
Angel Salazar

‘Scarface’ has to be one of the ten gangster movies of all time. I guess you could say it is to crime films what ‘Butch and Sundance’ are to westerns. In other words, if you didn’t see it in the theaters, you’d better believe you’ve seen it on television. We all know Al Pacino plays Tony Montana, which today is code for gangster or ‘he’s done too much blow’. (Check the comments, someone is bound to say I am ‘Tony Montana’ now, it’s so predictable it’s almost guaranteed.)

Speaking of little friends, Angel Salazar is at Stanford’s this weekend. Angel is a co-star in the film ‘Scarface’ playing one of Pacino’s ‘right hand’ guys, Chi Chi. The most memorable scene in the movie might be the chainsaw brutalization in the shower during Tony’s first big cocaine deal. It is Angel, playing Chi Chi, who along with co-star Steven Bauer comes to Pacino’s rescue saving him from certain death. Angel remained in the film, sharing a lot of screen time with Pacino. Angel is a little guy and actually is Cuban. Salazar went on to play a similar role with Pacino in ‘Carlito’s Way’ another popular gangster film. Salazar also landed a nice role in the movie ‘Punchline’ with Tom Hanks and Sally Fields, playing one of the comics from ‘The Gas Station’, the comedy club featured in the film. Angel also landed a re-occurring role on the series ‘In Living Color’. He also appeared in ‘Where the Buffalo Roam’ with Bill Murray. His stand-up comedy has been seen on many industry showcases like the ‘Latino Laugh Festival’ on HBO.

Angel is high energy to say the least, the second half of his show he does several musical pieces transforming into such celebrities as Boy George and Tina Turner. Salazar talks a lot about his past when he was a young barrio gang member in New York. ‘I was a member of the Warlords, the gang across the street was a Jewish gang called ‘The Landlords’, they only wanted to fight once a month. Hey, the nice thing if you come see my show, you also get a free car wash afterwards.’

It’s a fun, PG-rated journey giving you a glimpse of what it’s like to be an East Coast Latino over the last several decades. An area favorite, DC Young, co-stars with Angel through the entire weekend. Shows are Friday, Saturday and even a 7pm Father’s Day Sunday show, call (913)400-7500 for tickets and more information

  11. well.. I, for one, was most definitely impressed with his work!

While he did leave a couple of "skippers", his lines were straight, and he did rake up and bag the grass after mowing.

And.. all this for 20 bucks!
