TKC EXCLUSIVE QUESTION: HAS MAYOR SLY'S 'CULT OF PERSONALITY' WEAKENED KANSAS CITY DEMOCRACY?!?!

Kansas City's Toy Train Streetcar continues to railroad local voters but that doesn't stop the move forward for the pet project @ City Hall.

Just another example . . .

KCUR: A court challenge to phase one of the Kansas City's streetcar plan didn't slow the train yesterday as the city council approved a contract for a study of phase two.

And this fact leads us to this question that nobody is asking our top elected official . . .

HAS MAYOR SLY DAMAGED DEMOCRACY IN KANSAS CITY BY UNWISELY EXPLOITING LOW VOTER TURNOUT AND SPECIAL ELECTION LOOPHOLES?!?!!

Remember that Mayor Sly has earned tremendous victories when nobody bothers to go vote and his team seems set on putting important issues into the hands of the fewest voters possible. Example: The Toy Train Special Election Kept Away From The Ballot Box.

FACT: The last election in Kansas City garnered less than 10% turnout among registered voters.

This isn't a new trick but Mayor Sly has used it more effectively than any politico in quite some time.

However, the Mayor's "win at all costs" mentality has greater impact than whatever pet projects he's pushing at the behest of his patrons . . .

Mayor Sly James might be showing Kansas City voters that Democracy and voting isn't really important when it comes to running Kansas City.

The Administration of Mayor Sly James has promoted a dangerous cult of personality that no longer relies on the best interests of Kansas City voters but instead seems to desire only victory for pet causes by subverting Democratic ideals and using voter apathy as an integral part of an overall strategy.

  1. You say he subverts democracy in a reference to the fact that the COURTS just decided in his favor. Sky's not blue in your world, is it Tony? Down is up?

  2. Oh, personality regimes are not that important but there was that one with some dude named Hitler and oh yeah, Stalin had a pretty fair personality himself. Nah, not to worry.

  3. Courts have not yet decided. Streetcar lawsuit still going strong and there's one after this too.

  4. Actually courts have decided. And once the lawsuit got thrown out.

Keep them coming, though, makes the anti-transit people show their ass and eventually, the money behind the anti-transit shills is going to show, too.

You lost. Sorry, that's how elections go. I was pretty disappointed the time America actually elected George Bush. But I didn't sue and claim it was unconstitutional to use "my" tax dollars to fund wars I didn't vote for.

  5. If you didn't vote, you have no one to blame but yourself. Apathy has a price. Pay it.

  6. BTW, I didn't vote for Sly. I voted for the other guy. Burke is cut out of the same cloth but he would not have been as good as sly in getting the council to march to his tune.
    This town sucks for leadership.

  7. The election was rigged. Instead of putting it on the general election ballot, the pro-streetcar idiots insisted on special mail in ballot that had be notarized in order to case your vote. Those morons made it very difficult to vote.

  8. The issue is not whether it was easy or not. The question is whether it was legal. The courts ruled on that. Anything after that is sour apples.
Of course, it goes without saying that this council has jeoperdized all future tax elections. And we have an earnings tax election to think about in the next few years. Short-sighted morons indeed.

  9. Sly is a bully. End of story. The Council is afraid of him. Good things will not be coming in the future.

  10. How come the people with the bent noses not put him in a pile of concrete somewhere like they did Jimmy?

  11. Jimmy Swaggard?

  13. I think cult of personality takes it a little to far. Sly Guy is more of a "strong man".

  14. This is the worst news I've heard this year. I never voted for this mess. . .I did vote for a rail train to the airport. A train that has DESTINATIONS not some piece of GARBAGE that no one want and that has no purpose except as a token some IDIOT can put his name on. . .I am very disappointed in this IDIOT MAYOR and his administration.

  15. While they may be synonymous, "idiot Mayor" is not quite the same as "NIGGER Mayor", though now, we have both.

  16. Election my ass it was crime. I want to know how many died people voted for that shit line tranit.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How many died people? That sound very smart.
There less than 500 votes cast. I'm pretty sure you can look all of them up.
Not defending the street car because I think its a waste of money, but if you're going to fight it, at least make a smart argument.
Truthfully, city hall has been abusing special taxing districts for a while. It would not take much to pursue legislation at the state level from preventing this kind of farce in the future.

  18. The rally scheduled for September 14 at Missouri Town will enlighten young people of the hate and filthy nigger-loving shit that ruined this country in the mid-19th century. We will not go away. We will not be quiet. We will rule again and this Confederation of God Fearing States will once again be a shining city on the hill.

It all starts on September 14 at Missouri Town with a proud Rebel Yell!

  19. you white supremacist scum should fuck off back to the holes and trailers you crawled out of. you disgrace missouri's proud history

  20. What democracy? You were under the delusion that KC ever was a democracy? Silly you.

  21. Rail to the airport is an idiotic idea. Would cost 10X as much and serve fewer people. The Northland is sprawled out, leap-frog, auto-oriented development through nothing.

What a retarded idea. Almost as many people live along the 2 miles streetcar route than live along the 20 miles route to the airport.
