Kansas City Rockfest construction is underway as the fields at Penn Valley Park are completely soaked, coming apart and quickly turning to mud already.
The forecast reveals the the rain might relent but there is no heatwave on the way so don't expect the ground to dry out.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY INSIDERS FEAR THAT ROCKFEST FANS WILL ONCE AGAIN TURN PENN VALLEY PARK INTO A MUD HOLE IN THE AFTERMATH OF THEIR B-LIST BAND CELEBRATION!!!

This happened before and there was a fight about who was paying to clean it up . . . Thousands of dollars worth of damage was debated amid the mullet aficionado contribution to local revenue of these hard rock fans. Admittedly, Quiktrip biz really spiked in the area!!!
In the aftermath, concert promoter insurance kicked in but former Parks Board Member Aggie Stackhaus took a beating from Rockfest Host And Radio DJ Johnny Dare on airwaves for nearly a year afterwards . . .

This time around, Kansas City Insiders just want concertgoers to be on notice . . .
"In all likelihood, Rockfest should be a muddy mess and the damage to the park should be significant," an AWESOME TKC TIPSTER noted. "There's really no getting around this problem given the Spring timing. The cleanup should be substantial but sadly Parks isn't prepared and they're going to act like this is a surprise.
As a practical guide . . . Concert-goers might want to skip wearing nice shoes . . . Also, don't mudslide near the port-a-potties, because that's just gross.
DEVELOPING . . .
Galoshes PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteDo NOT be a party pooper.
ReplyDeleteHowever, members of City Council can get their freebee tickets from Troy Schulte as usual. Please post all you photos on Scott Wagner's Facebook page for evidence.
ReplyDelete8:31, lol
ReplyDeleteLots of rain the past few days/weeks, tens of thousands of yahoos who don't care, and recent history. Helen Keller could see this is going to be a muddy disaster. You needed a frickin' tipster to tell you the same thing?
ReplyDeleteits just dirt and grass it will grow back.get real
ReplyDeleteGlazer looks so much better as a blond. He has pretty eyes too. Why does he always wear shades?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, 8:57. Did it not grow back last time? And did the promoters not keep every promise they made to make sure it grew back?
ReplyDeleteMy word! Tony is turning into Aggie Stackhaus!
"Hey you kids! Get off my lawn!"
Last time this happened the concert people payed for all of clean up and repairs and they kicked in a substantial amount of money for the city's trouble. The city was talking shit until thdley found about the money then you never heard another peep.
ReplyDeleteI don't go to this because I don't like the bands (although I do like Alice in Chains, by far the best 90's band). That said, this event is something that "cities" do. Not everything needs to be stuck out in the hinterlands. The grass can be replaced and from what I understand Entercom pays for it. It's not disrespectful of veterans or anybody else. I wish I liked more of the bands because it is a cool location. People need to get over it, it's beneficial to the city.
ReplyDeletePenn Valley Park should be able to be used for concerts and not just gay cruising.
ReplyDeleteSickening that this drunkfest could go on at the country's only memorial to WWI soldiers that gave gave their lives fighting for freedom. AEG owns the politicians in this town.
ReplyDeleteSince most of the people that go are pigs they'll be right at home in the mud.
ReplyDeleteThis year let's make sure any car parked on the grass gets towed immediately to the inpound lot.
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't this held at Swope Park where it belongs?
ReplyDeleteNobody wants to get shot on the way there, at, or on the way home.
Delete10:20, it's not held at the Liberty Memorial.
ReplyDeleteIt's held at Penn Valley Park.
Get your facts straight next time, please.
They should call it Pig Penn Valley Park.
ReplyDeletePig Penn Valley Park. Isn't that cute?
ReplyDeleteIf it was a bunch of beaaner bands playing that mariachi crap TKC would be cumming all over himself. If it was a bunch of hip hop thug bands screeching out hate Tony would promote it. But let the white folks gather and party and fat boy has nothing positive to say, as usual.
ReplyDelete12:21 sounds like "our pal" Glazerrrrrrrrrrrrr!
ReplyDeleterock fest sucks balls. Dirty balls.
ReplyDelete10:49pm Is it a reading or retention problem? From the website - "We are proud to hold Rockfest on the site of the Nation’s only World War One Memorial."
ReplyDeleteThe Liberty Memorial is part of Penn Valley Park. Parks and Rec is responsible for the grounds, snow/ice removal, etc.
ReplyDeletebtw... to guy who keeps posting that it's disrespectful to hold a rock concert near this memorial, i would say that THIS is part of what they were fighting for in the first place; the freedom.
besides, they're not going set up stages on the Walk of Honor.
So Tony says in his headline that the last "mess" was "costly?"
ReplyDeleteTo whom?
Only to the promoters who did indeed live up to contractual obligations to repair any damage to the park.
And I'll still bet they turned a handsome profit that day.
This event should be held by the river, where they do the July fireworks.
ReplyDeleteOK, and moving it to the river reduces the chances of a mudbath in wet weather exactly how?
ReplyDeleteWhen Rockfest ruined the park in 2011, the city had to suddenly find a way to move the Gay Pride festival that was happening in Penn Valley Park two weeks after Rockfest. They managed to move it to Berkley Riverfront Park but it meant cutting through a lot of red tape since that property is managed by the Port Authority, not Parks and Rec.
ReplyDelete"In all likelihood, Rockfest should be a muddy mess and the damage to the park should be significant,"
ReplyDeleteWell, Tony, it look like your "tipster's" weather forecast was just a wee bit off.
"In all likelihood," it's going to be pretty close to perfect.
But I am sure if you go down there, you can still shoo 60,000 kids off the lawn.
The Rockfest team and AEG are prepared come rain or come shine. If inclement weather happens (and today looks beautiful), AEG will pay to restore the park just as they did the last time. Also, AEG pays a hefty fee to Parks and Liberty Memorial to host the event in Penn Valley Park, so everyone wins.
ReplyDeleteEveryone except big mouth Aggie Stackhaus. Every year there is one complaint about Rockfest, and every year it's from her, usually about someone stepping on her lawn.
The previous Park Board did the right thing repairing the relationship with AEG and bringing Rockfest back. Penn Valley Park should be a place of festivals.
Aggie Fatmouth Stackhaus has a bigger mustache than Craig Glazer.
