TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY JAMES SOON TO ANNOUNCE CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE!!!
Kansas City Mayor Sly James hopes to change the way local government works with a massive overhaul of the charter.
To wit . . .
MAYOR SLY JAMES WILL SOON ANNOUNCE A "CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE" THAT WILL PUSH FORWARD HIS 'STRONG MAYOR' AMBITIONS ALONG WITH A POSSIBLE REALIGNMENT OF CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS!!!
This power play from Mayor Sly is a bold move that might accomplish a great many things . . .
Remember that Proposed Kansas City Council District Realignment is an effort aimed at reducing or eliminating Kansas City's "At-Large" Council seats - These are City Council positions elected by a citywide vote but representing a specific district in addition to the In-District Council Seat. To date, Congressman Cleaver has led this movement not only because the At-Large seats dilute the minority votes but also because more council seats overall benefit neighborhoods and offer more direct representation of the public from elected officials.
A Kansas City Insider noted that the Mayor is hijacking the issue of Council District realignment from Congressman Cleaver . . .
"This is a move to take control of the discussion away from Congressman Cleaver."
Another KICK-ASS KANSAS CITY INSIDER spoke of the political juxtaposition of the 'Strong Mayor' issue and Council realignment.
"He might be popular but people don't want to hand the 'Strong Mayor' form of governance over to THIS Mayor . . . He doesn't have much backing for his 'Strong Mayor' ambitions so tying his issue to Council Realignment, which is picking up steam, is an opportunistic way to pick up support."
Also worth noting . . .
COUNT THIS AS A MAJOR VICTORY FOR KANSAS CITY'S BLACK/BROWN COALITION THAT CHAMPIONED THE ISSUE OF COUNCIL REALIGNMENT WITHOUT HAVING TO KISS MAYOR SLY'S RING!!!
Mayor Sly only responds to strength and he hasn't really shown much compassion for neighborhood interests from any demographic group . . . More on that topic later . . .
For now . . .
There area lot of names being thrown out for this committee . . .
Guadalupe Center Prez Cris Medina or one of his associates/nephews will most likely earn a spot. Mr. Medina worked on redistricting the last time around.
If Mattie Rhodes Director John Fierro is smart, he'll get a place on the committee as well and we heard he has the inside track on this one because he's more open to suggestion . . .
Look for Management Consultant Gayle Holiday on this committee . . .
Jackson County COMBAT Dirctor Stacey Daniels-Young should also get a spot given that she helped out with the redistricting effort as well.
And while Mayor Sly attempts to build consensus or at least make it look like he's doing as much . . .
KANSAS CITY INSIDERS EXPECT THAT THE 'STRONG MAYOR' CHARTER CHANGE COULD BE ON THE BALLOT AS SOON AS THIS NOVEMBER!!!
However, don't expect urban core interests to back off their plan to possibly pursue LEGAL ACTION AGAINST KANSAS CITY in order to realign the Council Districts.
And so . . . We want to THANK KANSAS CITY INSIDERS for vital info on upcoming efforts that could soon change the political structures which govern this town.
DEVELOPING . . .
Sly is smart by trying to get ahead of this instead of being reactive. But it remains to be seen how much he can really compromise.
ReplyDeleteI'd serve, except I have to stay at home and masturbate all day.
ReplyDeleteDetroit.
ReplyDeleteWhat are his views on unsolicited bulk e-mail?
ReplyDeleteFor a "Strong Mayor" form of government, you'd have to be:
ReplyDelete1) A person of strong character
2) A qualified mayor
Given his administration to this point and the marvelous parenting example that is his thug son, Sly James is neither!
The current system is the only thing keeping Sly from COMPLETELY destroying "Murder and Poverty City"!
A strong mayor system allows the special interests to bribe just one official instead of twelve.
ReplyDeletePenis head Fierro will be there...there's always another committee to serve on and another penis to suck!
ReplyDeleteClinton Adam's is carrying Cleaver's water on this and he and his evil sister will be champing at the bit to get a seat on this committee.
ReplyDeletethis Mayor is a pretender. he is an empty suit and nothingn that he has done has been substantial. he thinks that he is loved but they only like him as long as he's paying for the party. soon enough he will find out that his bill is coming due.
ReplyDeleteWho says the mayor is "popular"? Not so in the whispers that I hear. Thin skinned politicians, like this one, always like to believe the smiling faces that tell them they are great. The great public servants see past that and earn true respect with their actions.
ReplyDeleteMayor James has done nothing to prove that he's a strong mayor. What has he done for KC? He does not deserve more power until he does something with what he has already got.
ReplyDeleteWhat he has done is push for a toy train, a 1,000 room hotel that will mostly be vacant, an uneeded new airport, expanded corporate welfare, raised taxes, and ignored crime and basic services.
ReplyDeleteTo the political elite and the KC Star that is as good as it gets.
He can fiddle all he wants while Rome burns...just how do you think the Art Institute will do in recruiting new students when parents become aware its located in a War Zone (murder at 39th and Warwick this morning).
ReplyDeleteHe ain't as popular as he thinks, or as his lackies tell him.
More committees and ops to smoooze each other. Ways to try to pry info out of each other. Sly knows what he's doing but he's not likely to get more power than he's already got which is actually considerable already.
ReplyDeleteSly is sly - throw 'em a bone....
ReplyDeletewhy don't we just hand over our wallets?
ReplyDeleteDon't understand when it comes to the Hispanic community's reprsentation, why the same few men and their families and agencies are always selected. Let's get away from the tokenism that is so prevalent and get some hardworking worthy Latinas/os on a committee/board. There's infinite talent in KC's Latino community. Show some creativity for a change.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he will swallow his hatred of the Northland and appoint someone from that part of the City. Or if he will, ironically, dilute any Northland voice by, for instance, appointing one out of fifteen members from the Northland.
ReplyDeleteWELCOME TO DETROIT
ReplyDeleteNorthland needs to get on board or they will be left behind. Their leadership is mostly out of the loop with only a couple of notable exceptions.
ReplyDelete11:33, it's going to be very hard to get Fierro to loosen his lip grip on Sly's nutsack! he always hogs the balls.
ReplyDeleteSly is out of touch. He doesn't have what it takes to become a strong Mayor.
ReplyDeleteYou people are out of touch about the Northland. He may hate it but he knows who is who. That's what he's got over you and the old guard that can't figure out what is going on. They think they have it figure out and them BAM! a new turn Ha! Ha! Could we ever go back to the glory days???????
ReplyDeleteSly believes in Sly and he has his followers believing. The bunch that is in power they're the believers watch them go. Toy trains, new airports, fancy parties, pie in the sky......
ReplyDeleteHell, give it to Russ The Johnson. He knows how to get things "done"......
ReplyDeleteWill a strong Mayor mean no city manager? Where do I sign.
ReplyDeleteGood point.
