Mayor James announces the formation of the Mayor’s Challenge Cabinet of young professionals
Applications now available online, due by February 27, 2013
In the past year, Kansas City has continually been recognized as a growing hub for entrepreneurship and innovation. This paradigm shift in how our city is perceived is in large part due to the hard work, dedication, and talent of our creative industries and young professional community. This group is increasingly and significantly transforming the ecosystem in Kansas City for the better. It is important now, more than ever, that our city government parallel the vision of our entrepreneurial community and be an engine for growth and support, not a barrier to development.
In an effort to take advantage of these growing opportunities, Mayor Sly James is seeking a cross-sector group of young professionals to serve as a creative advisory panel, with the goal of formulating forward-thinking civic policies that reflect the needs and wants of emerging leaders. Dubbed the Mayor’s Challenge Cabinet, the group will work directly with the City’s recently hired Chief Innovation Officer and the Code for America fellows, both of whom arrive next Monday. The goal is to fundamentally transform the way City Hall approaches problems, working strategically to develop efficient, effective, and enhanced municipal operations.
The Challenge Cabinet will have access to a wide range of resources in Kansas City’s entrepreneurial ecosystem including UMKC’s Proof of Concept Lab, the Kauffman Foundation, Google’s new ultra high-speed gigabit Internet, the Bloch School of Management, and extensive mentorship networks of business and innovation experts. Utilizing these resources and entities, the Challenge Cabinet will have an opportunity to work with premiere institutions and will be trained to use cutting-edge business principles, such as design thinking, proof of concept labs, and rigorous evaluation tools.
“I am looking for applicants that exhibit a passion for civic duty, and the creativity and ingenuity necessary to confront the complex problems of our City to serve in my Challenge Cabinet,” said Mayor James. “I want to demonstrate how city government can be inspired by the collaboration of people from different industries and walks of life who use their talents for the betterment of our City and community.
Applications to serve in the Mayor’s Challenge Cabinet are available online at http://www.kcmayor.org/challenge-cabinet. Applications are due by February 27, 2013. The Challenge Cabinet will be selected prior to the Mayor’s State of the City Address.

Is McGurk's Neo-Nazi wife part of this or is it Mr. Hand's LA Woman organizing things?
ReplyDeleteAgeism. Discrimination plain & simple. A lot of people who are middle aged and old have good things to offer and they are kicked to the curb.
ReplyDeleteA prominent Kansas City criminal defense lawyer pleaded guilty today in Kansas federal court to laundering money he thought came from illegal drug sales.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a winning candidate for this program.
Age discrimination got to agree with that. No shortage of older people willing to work longer, harder, and smarter then kids who are more worried about their social media status and where the next happy hour meetup is going to be.
ReplyDeleteHUGE AGE DISCRIMINATION!! This will play well into the hands of the lawyers handling the age discrimination cases in the KCMO's Prosecutor's office. Keep tripping over your dick, Sly. Your right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.
ReplyDeleteThis prominent KC defense lawyer is Ron Partee. I guess when you wallow with the pigs, you will eventually get dirty.
ReplyDeleteYes it does his right hand plays with his balls while his left hand strokes his Glazer size dick.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile a third person shot dead late this afternoon. Elmwood Avenue and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard. Maybe some of these young beer guzzling whipper snappers-game changers have some ideas for Sly about stopping homicide crimes?
ReplyDeleteAh that's what seven murders in the past three days? I'm losing count of it at this point.
ReplyDeleteMcGurk would be a what an American African in Africa in that getup?
ReplyDeleteI'm available! Okay, we get our city twitter stream going stronger, add tons of fresh content to the Facebook page, and add tons of pics to Pinterest! Then were a dynamic city! With fiber people can surf it faster!!! And as long as this job doesn't interfere with my social life, I'm cool with it!
ReplyDeleteYes McGurk would be an American Mexican in Mexico and wearing sombrero and poncho if he was working for one of their mayors down there.
ReplyDeleteWere all country-less now.
Hilarious picture!!
ReplyDeleteJohn McGurk must have been feeling very secure in his position to pose in that outfit. Don't people get sued at City Hall for telling "mammy" jokes?
Did someone say that he was interviewing at the time for either:
City Personnel Diversity Chief (tribal chief)
.. or the Mayor's Liaison Officer to the Near East Side.
John McGurk -City Personnel Diversity Chief - Tribal Chief
ReplyDeleteROFLMAO only thing missing is Sly wearing military garb with a chest full of ribbons and medals he didn't earn.
I thought he was dressed as the Jack of Spades or something like that. His outfit looks like a playing card. Playa!

ReplyDeleteLove nothing more than name-calling, holier-than-thou,"open-minded" liberals. Aren't you the ones who should be embracing innovation and change?
