TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY INSIDERS CONTEND: CITY MANAGER TROY SCHULTE HAS FALLEN OUT OF FAVOR WITH MAYOR SLY!!!
Already 2013 looks like it's shaping up to be an interesting year in Kansas City politics.
Internal City Hall politics are CERTAINLY starting to take center stage.
To wit . . .
KANSAS CITY INSIDERS CONTEND THAT THERE'S NO LONGER A LOT OF LOVE FOR CITY MANAGER TROY SCHULTE IN THE OFFICE OF MAYOR SLY JAMES!!!
Supporting evidence:
- Notice that, some say unfairly, The City Manager took a great deal of heat for handing over a check at the request of Council Dude Michael Brooks during the recent Floyd Mayweather fiasco.
- City Manager Troy is unfortunately tasked with telling Mayor Sly "NO" when it comes to a lot of dumb spending ideas.
- And realistically, with 13 bosses the City Manager is always under fire in Kansas City.
What's more interesting . . .
WITH A RUBBER STAMP CITY COUNCIL . . . MAYOR SLY WOULDN'T HAVE ANY TROUBLE FINDING A NEW CITY MANAGER AND SOME SAY MR. SCHULTE MIGHT BE ON HIS WAY OUT IN 2013!!!
Don't look for many people to advocate for Mr. Schulte because he kinda lucked into this gig after the old school City Manager Wayne Cauthen debacle . . . Nevertheless . . . Kansas City Insiders agree that Troy Schulte is the latest to learn that staying in the good graces of a popular Kansas City Mayor is a top priority.
DEVELOPING . . .
If you want new city government, unless there is a chater change there has to be a new city manager.
ReplyDeletealso look for sly to change the charter.
My neighbor, who is on the Senior Council, says that he hears that Troy falls for the ass kissers. Problem is, they can't do much more than kiss his ass, make him smile, and sound good at pointless meetings.
ReplyDeleteLuck is right.
He has a big ass to kiss!
ReplyDeleteSay what you want...and there is a lot to say... Troy does know city finances inside and out.
ReplyDeleteToo many chiefs and not enough little Indians.
Speaking of Chiefs, hopefully he appoints a new Fire Chief from out of town.
ReplyDeleteFirst year as CM, Troy blew up his own budget, thin margin. How many of those ass kissers got promoted only to get reassigned when the budget math did not work?
ReplyDeleteIf Sly takes out Troy, then he loses the north land.
ReplyDeleteEnter Russ Johnson.
I'm not sure why Sly would fire Troy, since he gets most of what he wants from the City Manager. Troy is not the problem at City Hall. The insider politics is what kills the organization and any opportunity to move a progressive agenda.
ReplyDelete6:46pm is right on the money. Schulte is just one of the many folks at city hall who think their jobs are to pass out money to whomever promises or threatens them the most, or who has some insider connections . There're no plans, priotities, or any specific ideas as to how to improve the services the city is supposed to provide, just shoveling money out the door for one scheme after the next.
ReplyDeleteJust like the ideas of local control of the police, a new cith manager won't make any difference unless the way the place OPERATES changes.
And that's not going to happen. There are way too many folks who do very well for themselves and like things just the way they are now.
A city that works.
Just not for you.
Who is this Troy guy?
ReplyDeleteI like the cut of his jib!
Way to pick up the IQ of the discussion 730.
ReplyDelete6:46 is correct. I'll add that the mayor and Schulte are still on good terms. This gossip is from a few people who are STILL mad Cauthen was ousted over their objections (Terry Riley). Not to name any names (Ed Ford) but let it go guys (John Sharp).
ReplyDeleteSchulte didn't "luck" into the job. Cauthen was ousted because he was a corrupt bastard with halitosis and so that Schulte could be given the job. Luck had nothing to do with it. Schulte is there because a majority of the council wanted him there.
Schulte is there because he's a worthless ass kisser.
ReplyDeleteTime to clean house Sly!
7:12 PM Nice comment.
ReplyDeleteTony, Tony, Tony... The correct answer is right before your eyes and easily within your vast power to make happen. Yes, we, no you, need to bing back the Funk!!! Co-City Managers... The Gruesome Twosome, Gloria Squidrito and Mayor now Future City Manager, Mark Smartwithothinghouser :) He and they are just what the City needs right now :)
ReplyDeleteThe main reason that Troy is no longer in the Mayor's circle, is quite simple. Troy is WHITE and there's not much room for white people at City Hall anymore. If you're a NIGGER, then your star is rising. If not, find the exit soon...
ReplyDeleteGeeze, Deb again at 1215. Before KC, Troy had held one CM job in a hoedug city of 2200 in Nebraska. Time managing a major US city, easy.......none.
ReplyDeleteSorry to disappoint you 5:57, but 12:15 isn't Deb Hermann or even a City employee, past or current. Just a taxpayer who pays attention, attends an occasional meeting and follows things. Schulte is a strong financial officer, but not a political animal. KC is a tough environment to survive if you can't handle the divisive, often racist, and sometimes even corrupt and criminal actions of its elected officials.
ReplyDeleteSchulte is honest and fair, but does try hard to please, perhaps too hard. In a position with 13 bosses, some of whom have no problem spending tax dollars to pay for favors for friends, get their buddies contracts with the City, use their office budget to advance their personal careers, and much more, that is a difficult role to play and not always the best trait to possess.
By the way, how many city manager positions had Wayne Cauthen, the man that helped Kay Barnes screw KC financially and give away the store to Cordish, held prior before he was hired for the top spot in KC? Answer: Zero.
Time spent managing a major US city? None. Time spent mismanaging KC? Several years.
Cauthen cared nothing about KC. He never even officially moved here. Schulte lives here, raises his family here and cares about this city. Not all of our elected officials put KC first. They could take a lesson in that from our City Manager.
We need the Funk. Bring back the Funk.
