Art criticism really isn't my thing so I'll let you d-bags decide . . .
Controversial Kansas City Artist Jessica Logsdon takes on Mayor Sly James in her latest comic.
The image seems to juxtapose Mayor Sly's penchant for pleasing Kansas City's elite with the sad state of the urban core . . . Yet the "Maya Sly" tag seems a bit insensitive and demeaning.
Tell us what you think . . . Would you like to see more of Ms. Logsdon's work on TKC?
Can she channel Alberto Varas?
ReplyDeleteYou mean as a joke, right? Just like when you feature Alonzo or Clay, you are really just making fun of them - but they are not in on it...so shhhhhh! It's just a joke blog.
ReplyDeleteForget her work let's just see her boobs.
ReplyDeleteIs this some kind of fucking joke?
ReplyDeleteYou're caling this broad an artist?
I don't find the term 'Maya Sly' offensive or demeaning and wonder why you do, Tony. In what way? It's legitimate political cartooning and pretty clever. The cartoon works, it's fun.
ReplyDeleteits the maya angelou reference. Cant make black folk jokes, its insensitive.
ReplyDeleteShe got pink, blue, or purple hair?
ReplyDeleteAnother Reagan baby.
ReplyDeleteThis chicks "art" is a joke and T knows it.
ReplyDeleteYes! Please for the love of God keep showing us her work, it soooo refreshing and such a wonderful juxtaposition to the hotel art in the 'crossroads art district' on first Fridays!
ReplyDeleteSaying the word Maya is insensitive???
ReplyDeleteHello is this the same blogger that repeatedly posts over and over about the Mayor's Son - Kyle James - the rapper Kyle James and his offensive swear words and profanity found in his music??? Tkc ? ?
You know what I really think is both insensitive and demeaning? The percentage of blight that exists on the east of Kansas City, where the majority of minorities and immigrants live. You know what else I think is really "insensitive" and "demeaning" is that the only plan Mayor Sly James and the City Council has to get rid of blight is the plan of kicking poor people out of their homes, stealing their properties and, ultimately, creating more blight.
ReplyDeleteI thought the immagrants lived in south JOCO, and worked at the Sprint campus? If not who goes to 818 and all the various sub-asian shops scattered between 95th and 151st
DeleteLearn how to draw and then come back for more criticism.
ReplyDeletechicks off her rocker, like she lives anywhere near the world of east of troost....only the eastside old time grifters of 27th n prospect resent the police station,,,,,cuz they wanna git paid dammit!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite artist in Kansas City, fuck yeah, Jessica Logsdon is the bomb you idiots don't know what art is or is not.
ReplyDeleteCrazy or not crazy at least she has the balls to call The Kauffman Family and the mayor to the mat. Grow some balls kansas city artist because most of you are weak limp wrist-ed decorators.
ReplyDeleteI say we keep her around and see more of her work.
ReplyDeleteBesides anyone who makes Sly look like a bitch is fine with me.
She is right KC has way to much ugly shit.
I'm at a loss. What is this? It's not commentary that makes the least bit of sense.
ReplyDeleteWow, I don't think the artist could of spelled it out any more clearly for the peanut gallery that is still confused in the background. Mayor Sly is constantly touting the success of the Kauffman Performance art center, which 99% of Kansas Citizens don't see or use in anyway shape or form. Yet just ten minutes east of downtown Kansas City, ten minutes east of the Kauffman performance art center is a whole lot of blight that manages to get no attention what so ever from Mayor Sly or the city council. Yes! We have some fucked up priorities here in K.C., do you get now?? Keep up the good work Jessica Logsdon, we have noted many times here in Kansas City that KC politicians would not know a vision if they were blinded by one.
