TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! ST. FRANCIS PARISH REJECTS BISHOP FINN'S CATHOLIC RESIDENCE HALL PLAN!!!

Some of the most KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS report a bit of Kansas City Catholic drama that not only reflects neighborhood voices standing up to authority but also demonstrates Bishop Finn losing influence among his own followers.

Check this testimony from a rather BLESSED TKC TIPSTER regarding so-called Catholic dorms near Rockhurst and UMKC that have now been cancelled . . .

"Bishop Finn wanted to build a super Catholic residence hall at the site of St. Francis School. Shoved it down the throats of the neighborhood people, and did not inform the parish. The design was horrendous--cheap, prison-like, based on a flimsy research plan. It was to proselytize right-wing Catholicism. There was opposition from the neighborhood. Tonight at a meeting at St Francis Church, parishioners (and neighborhood leaders) were told it (the residence hall) would not happen.

"Parishioners were quite outspoken in their opposition to the plan and even more so toward the bishop, who has a track record of poor communication--and lying when he does communicate. Jude Huntz of the diocesan office said he didn't need a "public relations nightmare on top of the disaster" he expects in the fall with "the trials...".

"The plans for a 300+ residence hall had inadequate parking, in addition to being an aesthetic nightmare.

"Cindy Circo was really good about this, even though it's not in her district. She was aware, and concerned about the neighborhood reaction. Councilpeople Marcason and Glover were silent."

Again, thanks to TKC TIPSTERS for informing us about the recent decision before anybody else and delivering the message of Kansas City Catholic angst among so many local followers.

DEVELOPING . . .

  2. Crap... what am I going to do with all these "Bishop Finn Kills Our Homes" signs I just printed?

  3. Jean, send this guy to prison already! We are done with him out here.

  4. What's with Glover. The lack of leadership got his tongue? This guy needs to be recalled

  5. Mr. Glover was born without a spine.

  6. Marcuson is too busy doing real estate deals for the swells and Glover is working on his "jobs" plan.
They're both also planning for the All Star Game and are way too busy to bother with this or any other neighborhood issues. Or with any issues actually involving city government.
If you want to live in a comunity that actually has a city government, I'd suggest you move.

  7. Due to the timing, the proposal of the residence hall was just bizarre and creepy...and I'm Catholic

  8. I also thought the plans were more than creepy. I am a practicing Catholic who can't stand Bishop Finn. I will be here long after he is gone...Move on...please, move on...

  9. Is the bishop telling the truth? I doubt it. His residence hall will get build no matter what.

  10. If you believe this project is dead you are wrong.

When has the Catholic Church ever been responsive to public opinion from the little people of it's parishes and the general public.

The whole concept was "divinely inspired" in the first place, and the church's decision maker are infallible.

They will be back to bulldoze the opposition to this project.

  11. Good was not sure where Finn was going to get the money anyway. His appeal is down 50% and not moving up very fast.

  12. 1:54pm NO they will not bulldoze the opposition. The neighborhoods and the ST. Francis Church people have facts on parking, design and zoning to fight this stupid development. Apparently, you forget the UMKC debacle on Rockhill and that was the state of Missouri.

You bring your best development lawyers and we will counteract them with our real estate lawyers and many, many residents and supporters. This deal is going nowhere.

  13. I hope they do not resurrect this plan and name it something new. As a neighbor I am celebrating this plan's demise, but as stated above....this could be only the first version with many more plans, copies of plans, disguises, etc...to try to pull it off anyway. I would not trust that this is the real end---but----we can keep fighting, no problem. They almost pulled this off by keeping it a secret, we will be watching carefully next time.

  14. The meeting is still on for July--the bishop wants people to think it's off so they don't attend, and his residence hall gets built. Pay attention! Don't let the bishop kill the neighborhood.

  15. Kill the neighborhood? Sheesh! Troost gets a major development opportunity that isn't a pawn shop, pay day lender, McDonalds or crack house and it's gonna kill the neighborhood? I guess you have a perverse point.

  16. You heard it here first.

To build this project the church will go straight to the pockets of the taxpayers. Someone needs to put the Bishop and his buddies on the spot and ask them if they intend to use tax exempt bonds to pay for part or all of the project. Ask specifically about the use of revenue bonds to be repaid with rent receipts.

  17. I am from the neighborhood and have attended some of the meetings. I am not against this project - but I am against the way the diocese handled it and the parking is insufficient for the residents or the church (think about weddings and funerals). I am all for development on Troost - but it needs to work for everyone - including the future residents or tenants.

  18. hey, 6:41 thanks.....I had wondered about that....thanks for shedding some light on the bond issues--how does anyone ask the bishop anything? I am just wondering...and if someone ask the bishop, will he even tell us? Are these things public record? there was even discussion about the project being open to the general public (as renters) because of the way the bonds were issued...but some said it was defined to them that it would not be general public--only students...I assume this reflects which kind of bonds/or tax $$ used? How can we get to the truth in the matter?
