An important three-day Kansas City EXTRAVAGANZA starts TODAY . . .
EQUAL Announces Second Annual Midwest QueerFest
Three Full Days Celebrating Radical Queer Activism
Kansas City, Mo. (June 20, 2012)- EQUAL will be hosting the second annual “Midwest QueerFest: A Celebration of Activism for the Anniversary of Stonewall!” This year the Festival is expanding to three full days of activism and celebration!
Thursday, June 28th- EQUAL is joining the KC Lesbian and Gay Film Festival on the 43rd Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots to present the documentary Stonewall Uprising at 4:00 p.m. at the Tivoli Theatre at 4050 Pennsylvania.
Friday, June 29th- EQUAL will be hosting “Midwest QueerFEAST” at 7:00 p.m. at Spirit of Hope MMC at 3801 Wyandotte. For a $10 donation, supporters will get a cooked vegan meal and help ensure that Midwest QueerFest is able to thrive with community support rather than corporate sponsorship. The feast will be followed by an all-ages dance party at the same location!
Saturday, June 30th-At noon Midwest QueerFest begins at Washington Square Park at Pershing Road and Grand Boulevard! This year there is an amazing lineup of queer and allied performers and artists, including: Amy Farrand, Mercury Mad, Grenadina, Ab5urdum, Wick & The Tricks, Showtyme & The ShowStoppers, Baer and Ani Mal, LAZY, Sleazebeats, and She’s a Keeper. These amazing queer and allied performers represent everything from spoken word to punk to hip-hop. In addition to the live entertainment there will be several activities including a zine making station, interactive exhibits on LGBTQ history with ways to get involved, a clothing swap, and a drag race.
EQUAL created Midwest QueerFest to celebrate radical activism, to highlight local queer and allied artists and performers, to help explain the intersections of social justice work, and to come together in public space to truly celebrate our community, activism, and art. EQUAL rejects the increasing consumerism of gay pride celebrations and the corporate co-option of queer identity and history.
Midwest QueerFest hopes to bring together a wide array of people to celebrate our community in the Midwest. By rejecting corporate sponsorship for this event EQUAL hopes to prove that there is still an independent spirit and passion in the LGBTQ community that is the legacy of the Stonewall Riots. Midwest QueerFest is an alcohol and drug free event and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Founded in 2007 as a grassroots organization for youth and run by youth, EQUAL (Empowering Queer Activists and Leaders) supports Kansas City’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer youth so that they may develop into socially conscious leaders and healthy, empowered people. EQUAL mentors youth to organize social justice leadership development trainings and conferences, organizes a network of area gay-straight alliances and recognizes and nurtures the skills and talents of the youth with whom we work. We are currently planning to open a safe and welcoming drop-in youth center that will provide a variety of social and health services to Kansas City’s youth. Looks to be an ass-packing good time.
ReplyDeleteouch.
ReplyDeleteI disagree but that's damn funny.
I LOVE shit on my dick!!!! I says I care no matter what! (even if you didn't have time to douche)
ReplyDeleteIt's official! Kansas City has become the sickest, most depraved area of the mid west. Can you imagine a "Queerfest"??? How vile and deviant is this? First KC has no football, then no baseball and now, this. What a veritable pit of vipers this little ole cow town has devolved into. Pity.
ReplyDeleteI was in washington dc a few years ago on vacation and they had a festival like this by the white house. there were guys walking around in assless chaps, guys in thongs riding horses, and people feeding popcicles to eachother in extremely inappropriate ways.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for what people do in their own homes and their right to do it, but doing it in public is a little much.
When are you going to come out Tony? You sure are up on all the gay activities around town not to mention all the support you give them every time one farts. I think all the pictures of the big titties are just a ruse that you use to appear strait.
ReplyDeleteQueer people are just so INTO THEMSELVES! Most of us couldn't care less what same sex people do to each other. Why do you keep putting it in our FACES? You are just not that important! Go the FUCK AWAY!
ReplyDeleteHomosexuals are an abomination in the eyes of the Lord. Not my words, but Biblical language and clearly, good enough for me an most normal humans. Fags are deviants, plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many Jerry Sandusky's are in that crowd
ReplyDeleteIf I take my wife do you think there is a chance that there will be a felatio demonstration? She could really use some pointers.
ReplyDeleteThese comments are pathetic. This is not the Gay Pride weekend. That was the first weekend of June. Queerfest is a smaller event for people who want to celebrate in what they think is a non-corporate sponsored event. Just a bunch of young people having fun.
ReplyDeleteJust a bunch of faggots sticking their dicks into eachothers assholes 5:45.
ReplyDeleteSo, since there are so many gays, will Starlight have a good season?
ReplyDeleteI wish the closet door had never been opened. Keep your sex life to yourself. An ass fest won't convince anyone it is normal.
ReplyDeleteRman is getting as old and grouchy as I am.
ReplyDeleteHeh, heh...
May meteors fall upon it.
ReplyDeleteBig fucking deal, so your homo-sexual, I'm a heterosexual. What makes you so special that you have to advertise your sexual orientation. Fucking grow up already !!!
ReplyDeleteAmen 6:57, amen!
ReplyDeleteThe severe ignorance demonstrated in these comments reaffirms the necessity of gay pride functions such as Queerfest.
ReplyDeleteWe don't want to be seen as normal. We want everyone to realize there is no "normal." This is a celebration of individual identity and the expression of that identity. Gay Pride has been taken over by corporations and no longer represents this. So some smart, active, young folks came together to restart the cause.
ReplyDeleteREPEAT: This is NOT about advertising our sexualities. This is about breaking senseless social boundaries and inviting EVERYONE to join in the celebration of the great variety of human pleasures. You CAN be heterosexual AND Queer. I can only hope that statement will make the heads of anyone who can't understand it implode.
SMASH THE CHURCH! SMASH THE STATE!
wow it seems like only hateful bigots know how to use the comment box.
ReplyDeleteI, for one, think that it is disgusting what you queers do... and to bring it into public like that... it's the final straw. Celebrating individual expression in an annual festival? Sounds pretty commie to me. I'm for American things like football games, for instance. Nothing like joining together DOZENS of times a year in mindless chants supporting ritualized displays of violence centered around a pigskin idol with some breaks thrown in to watch some girls in short skirts do some hyper-sexualized dances to our beer god. That's the 'merica I believe in. One that is that's TOTALLY different than a bunch of queers sucking on popsicles in their ass-less chaps.
ReplyDeleteQueers are freaks and there is absolutely NO good reason for bringing them together with normal people. The fags and dykes should take themselves and their kind, to a far away place, where they will eliminate themselves in a generation or two. It's natural selection not deviation.
ReplyDeletei myself take my girls to pride fest and they have both come out to me, i believe in supporting our youth and accepting everyone as individuals. and the lgbtq is not just about sex, my girls have never had sex and dont plan on it but they both know its ok to be lgbtq. my kids have friends that are scared to come out because of the threats that come along with coming out. all people should feel safe to be who they are not who socicety wants them to be
ReplyDeleteWhen you purpose that you are superior to other people because of differences you display your ignorance to the world. They are not sitting around judging you, why are you sitting around judging them. And who is the better person here....
ReplyDeleteIf you think for a moment that queers don't consider themselves superior to normal people, then you are sadly mistaken. These freaks believe themselves to be smarter, richer, more urbane, or just whatever, than normal folks. Well, they are DEAD wrong. Queers are morally bankrupt and mentally ill.
