Council Moves Toward Phasing Out Kemper Arena
Kemper Arena's future dims; preservationists want it saved
There has actually been a rather interesting debate about the architectural merit of Kemper Arena that's much more interesting than listening to the current Mayor and City Council explain how their development plans are far more sophisticated than the schemes that left Kemper as nothing more than an empty (but cool looking) shell.

Eating our own tail.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of tax a business pays in KCMO depends entirely on it's size and it's political clout.
ReplyDeleteCrony capitalism is by definition a losing system for the citizenry.
Like the P&L District TIF and the Citadel Plaza bond issue, this is just another ongoing expense that gets nobody anything at all.
ReplyDeleteAnd with teh 45 year contract with the American Royal, the folks at 12th and Oak are stuck in this spot for a very long time.
Another situation where the amateur real estate councilmembers get their butts handed to them and the taxpayers end up carrying the load.
How many more of these successes can we stand.
A city that works.
Just not for you.
Give it to Chris Fritz!
ReplyDeleteMr. Tony,
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, by the by.
As for the Kemper Can, can't we deed it over to the MU/KU collegiate teams or have one of their deep pocket donors gather up enough money to buy the structure cheap? Seems they are forever playing sports and wanting to encroach upon the poor surrounding neighbors for arenas and parking.
I have to go now and bless the Saints for keeping Obamacares.
Someone tell the "preservationists" to cut a check and they can do with it whatever they want.
ReplyDeletePreservationists are just like developers. They always fund their wonderful ideas with someone else's money.
ReplyDeleteMostly yours.
This is a terrible blow to me personally. I was sure -- just sure -- that KC could support two large arenas.
