JUST LIKE TKC TIPSTERS FIRST TOLD US . . . COUNCIL DUDE JERMAINE REED FACES A RECALL WITH AN EXTREMELY LOW THRESHOLD FOR SUCCESS!!!
Here's a link from The Star after the fact . . . City Clerk Vickie Thompson-Carr said that under the city charter, the committee of petitioners has 30 days to gather 1,633 valid petition signatures from Third District registered voters to trigger a recall election.
Here's a bit of First Person perspective on that number . . .
TKC is swarthy, a bit standoffish and not really interested in bathing . . . Given all of that, over the years I've collected more than 500 signatures in more than a couple of political races in about a day. It's just a numbers game . . . People will sign anything and there's not enough love for Jermaine in the 3rd District to prevent this effort . . . Ward Parkway maybe but not the 3rd. 7 (or a couple of) people could get those signatures in a weekend.
AND NOW IT'S TIME TO THINK ABOUT NEW CANDIDATES FOR THE UPCOMING 3RD DISTRICT ELECTION!!!

And this is exactly the kind of behavior that has created the disaster that the east side has become.
ReplyDeleteThree of the four councilmembers from that part of town are the most ineffective of the entire group. And you need at least seven votes to pass anything, so no one much cares.
And in the last city-wide election, the entire 3rd District produced a TOTAL OF 5000 VOTES. So no one much cares about that either.
And while all the individuals and little groups fight among themselves, the handful of usual suspects intimidates the city and business community, runs the show for their benfit, and takes all the money.

ReplyDeleteSame old family names- no better service. The two best Councilmembers for the 3rd and 5th black community are Sharp and Glover. They actually work for them but they are the wrong color and not well liked by the rest of the council. Plus, they don't live in the district and couldn't be elected there so what does that tell you? The "Community" won't be well served until we don't recognize the name of the candidate and neither does anyone named Cleaver, Curls, Rev (fill in the blank), Adams, Grant, Bland, Riley, Freedom Inc.
ReplyDeleteTrying to figure out exactly what Reed was suppose to do? He was just ONE VOTE on the council and could not have stopped anything. 90 percent of the homeowners in that area have settled with the City and are delighted to move out of that area. Powell and maybe two other families have not settled.
ReplyDeleteDelighted? When's the last time a homeowner under duress was "delighted." Maybe the money helps make people feel better but it doesn't mean they're delighted to do it. What were the other choices?
ReplyDeleteJust because you sell something doesn't mean delight! Wish the City would tell the truth instead of masking it with false analogies... If 90% of the people have settled; then everyone was delighted and happy to move on. Lies! Go door-to-door and ask the people what they really think! There's about 10-15 families; homeowners who haven't settled. Let's not distort the facts, please!

ReplyDelete@12:01 Actually my firm did go door to door because we wanted to represent the families who had a legitimate concern. You, Ms. Powell are upside down in your home and there was nothing that we could have done to help you. Trust me those families that we spoke to are happy to have the opportunity to get out of the their home. Duress/ I don't think so! And if you aren't careful you may receive even less money for your home.

Jermaine is a good councilman all the whinning and moaning on this blog nothwithstanding. Recalls are for serious shit like you used to have with councilmembers taking money and bribes. They're not intended to get rid of elected officials because you disagree with their position. That's what regular elections are for. Part of the reason KC is fucked up is because with a handful of signatures you can waste everyone's time. It's just an extension of the fucked up system that created Clay "I don't understand, no" Chastain. The cry babies on this blog, including TKC-who is a mouthpiece for the disenchanted (with everything by the way),are part of the problem.
