FORBES LABELS CERNER CEO NEAL PATTERSON AN "OBAMACARE BILLIONAIRE" WHILE TOUTING THE KANSAS CITY AREA HEALTH CARE COMPANY'S FUTURE!!!

A Kansas City area billionaire gets a gully cover story from a money mag that should inspire envy in the hearts of all of the rich, old white dudes in this cowtown.

For Kansas City readers . . . Here's the "money" section of a sprawling article that notes Cerner's record of success but also, like it or not, give Prez Obama his credit for the health care win.

"Over the past five years sales have grown an annualized 9% and earnings 22%. Last year the company booked $307 million in profits on sales of $2.2 billion. Since Patterson started Cerner in 1979 it has been consistently profitable, and shares have increased at an annualized 22% since a 1986 IPO. That’s 11% better than the S&P 500 over that 26-year span. The appreciation of Cerner’s shares has made the frugal Patterson a very rich man. His Cerner stake is worth $1 billion.

"Patterson’s innovations in computing and data storage certainly helped fatten that number. But Washington, especially President Barack Obama, has given him a healthy boost. As the rest of the economy floundered, Cerner boomed, thanks to a 2009 law that was Obama’s first foray into health care. The Health Information Technology for Economic & Clinical Health (HI TECH) was a $19 billion part of the 2009 stimulus bill designed to create new jobs. This bipartisan effort—even stimulus basher Newt Gingrich lobbied for it—aims to entice and then punish hospitals into finally going digital."

Sadly, I don't think the Patterson clan return the love to the Prez since they seem pretty hardcore GOP in quite a few entertaining but still losing election attempts.

  2. I used to do some work for the Patterson's over in the Xanadu house in Loch Lloyd.

Never met Neal, but his wife Jeanne was very sweet and all of the construction guys way back then were in love with her.

I bet she could run a car wash a hell of a lot better than this dumb ass.

  5. Having worked with Cerner products.......what DRECK! They have to buy the business. If you buy it based on quality, they're just not competitive.

  8. Mr. Patterson should be ashamed of himself. His Cerner EHR and the idiot trainers they send out to help us really do not have any idea what they are doing. The EHR is poorly put together and makes more work than it should. What a complete disaster. It feels like the Emporer has no clothes...no one seems to understand how bad CERNER is. The hospital and medical programs for the doctors are backwards....No one seems to address the concerns. While training for the EHR, the trainer admitted that she majored in a "business" major and did not know the first thing about IT or medical information.
When you ask her how to bypass something or eliminate it if not needed, she does not know how to do it. The Cerner tech guy who has been with us for weeks, set up a conference call, populated my calender but never went on the phone for the call. He forgot he did it. Ironic that he did not populate his own calendar.
