Topic: Kansas City Comic Book Creator & activist is honored by the Grio.com & NBC NEWS/Washington uses the national recognition to challenge citizens to take back the community.

During Black History Month the Grio.com & NBC NEWS honors 100 African Americans who's bodies of work will impact Black history now & in the future in their opinion. The gathering of these select individuals is called the Grio 100 List! The special list will be revealed on the NBC TODAY SHOW & the Grio.com (www.thegrio.com ) tomorrow.

Socially conscious comic book creator & crime solving activist Alonzo Washington will be named on the list. He will be recognized for his 20 years of comic book publishing. His comic book was the first African American comic book company that dealt with social issues such as gang violence, police brutality, racial conflict, school shootings, childhood obesity, diabetes, and many other social plights.

Mr. Washington will use the honor to bring national attention to unsolved murders in the greater Kansas City area. On February 03, 2012 (Friday) from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on 27th & Prospect national media cameras will highlight Mr. Washington's work. On that date he will organize a Take Back the Community rally with a live radio broadcast. The KPRS HOT 103 JAMZ Van will broadcast live & Alonzo Washington will sign copies of his comic books. The funds will be used to support anti-crime efforts in the city. Friends & relatives of murder victims are asked to bring pictures of their slain family members & businesses will be asked to contribute to this effort. The event is designed to bring the community, businesses & police together against crime in order to gain more tips.

Tomorrow, when Mr. Washington's Grio listing is revealed he will be on 27th & Prospect announcing his Take Back the Community Rally to the local morning news stations. Interested media outlets may interview Alonzo Washington about the upcoming community event & about his Grio award selection. News stations interested in showing up to this media event should send a e-mail to confirm your participation.
