Take a look at some notes that national media is working on . . . Here's an insider description of how events unfolded right here in Kansas City. Check it:

"Woman In Need"

It was about 9 o’clock this morning. Congressman Cleaver was heading back from a meeting. He was a passenger in a car near 44th & Troost when he looked out of the window and happened to notice a hand waving, barely above some weeds in ditch. He yelled for his staffer to stop the car – and both jumped out, ran across Troost and looked for the place where he saw the hand. They found a woman on her back, foaming at the mouth, who appeared to be drifting in and out of consciousness. She saw them there and said, “Help me!” That was all they ever heard her say. A group following the Congressman and his staffer had also stopped – and a man inside that vehicle – grabbed his phone and immediately called 911.

Temperatures were bitterly cold this morning – and the Congressman took off his suit jacket and put it on the woman while they waited for paramedics. At one point, the Congressman called 911 again to tell them he was worried she was dying, because she seemed to be getting worse.

Paramedics and firefighters arrived and took the woman to an area hospital. We do not know what was wrong with her or her current condition.

The Congressman was scheduled to be at a retreat in Virginia – but had not gone because he wanted to be at an event in the Green Impact Zone that he hopes will lead to more jobs.

“I don’t know what to say. I am so thankful I was in the right place at the right time and could help. The heroes are the First Responders who rushed to save her. I just hope she is okay.”

Credit to The Congressman for giving Kansas City first responders credit. We're waiting for more detail to see if the lady is okay.

  2. Good for him. I would hope most people would do the same thing.

I'm also glad he's downplaying the situation.

He did what any responsible citizen would so.

  3. More taxpayer subsidized healthcare.

  4. When is helping someone in need make them a hero and make the news?

People help people all the time, call the police, ambulance, whatever is needed,... to make this out to be something special or for the media to make it news is a shame on the media...so what?

A man stopped and helped a woman, end of story.

Did the media report how he lied, and lied, and lied to the nation over the spitting incident? No.
Grow up media this is a non story.

  5. Let's hope the media runs a picture of the poor woman and an address etc. so others can help to.

Where is she, does she have a home, on drugs, need rehab, ???

Let's hope there is plenty of follow up...not like when the mayor was on the Plaza and shots rang out, we never did hear much about the shooting victims again...where are they??? Weren't they important? Made one wonder if it was staged, no shooter, no photos, no security videos, silent victims...???

  6. What did he do with his jacket? Is it up for auction now? At least he gave credit where credit was due. Good job though.

  7. Good for him. A lot of the people criticizing him would not help ANYONE. This is really nice to read.

  8. An entourage and security detail are prerequisites if you're going to stop and help anyone along that stretch of Troost.

  9. The congressman has a new communications director and she is playing this VERY WELL!!

  11. Wow, someone doing someone else right around there. That's pretty impressive. Hopefully he wasn't circling the block looking to correct a mistake.

  12. Amazing. Parlay common sense and being a human being into a press release and some positive pr. Great work.

  13. Looking for jobs in the Green Impact Zone? Hell, no wonder he found a lady in a ditch. He sure as hell isn't going to find any jobs. Green Impact Zone was a total fail.

  14. Took an act of a congressman (okay, actually TWO acts- 911 had to be called TWICE) for the KCFD ambulance crew to show up.

  15. By far, most niggers are just tearing up things on this block O Troost (or anywhere else, for that matter.) but here, Cleaver did the "right thing". It's so sad that the right thing is now a news item.

  16. He can help the green impact zone folks by exempting them from obamacare
