So the Chamber says: "A progress report released Friday by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce shows early headway in each of the organization’s Big 5 ideas for the region."
TKC Readers notice . . .
DID ONE OF THESE BIG 5 IDEAS INCLUDE CONTINUING TO SPEND A TON OF MONEY ON TOURIST TRAPS THAT NEVER PAY OFF???
IF SO, WE'RE DOING GREAT!!!

As soon as any money hits the table in the urban core project, the usual suspects will show up. Then we'll see if the Chamber swells can take the heat of intimidation and extortion from the likes of Gwen Grant and Terry Riley. The answer will be no, and the Chamber will have yet another opportunity to throw away money on the east side. The poor executives swells don't have the faintest idea of how things work on the east side and will never get sufficiently involved to understand how all that money can disappear without anything happening.
ReplyDeleteThe Chamber should really stick to feathering their own nests and big dealing the KCMO government out of tax money for their personal projects. That's what they do best.
It was Heeter trying to be different from Pete Levi.....TOTAL FAIL...as is GKCCofC...All show, no go...just a jobs program for staff!
ReplyDeleteActually, 8:53, they're already lining up.
ReplyDeleteSee TKC post from 1/25 at 7:54 am.
Well that just about says it all.
ReplyDeleteWhat the Emergency meeting for?
The unchecked out of control murder rate? No. Fix the Water Department? No. Fix the streets from all the Pop-Holes?
No. It was to line someone's pocket with money for a train Kansas City does not need. People are giving up and leaving Kansas City.
KC faces an epidemic of broken water mains
ReplyDeleteLast year saw a record number of breaks. Officials say fixing the long-simmering issue won’t be easy.
Actually fixing KCMO's water problem IS easy. Just turn it off.
ReplyDeleteConsulting fees please!
You can't expect Heeter to come up with GOOD ideas. He's makes only $400,000/year!
ReplyDeleteWhy should he actually bring something to the game?
The Kansas City Chamber of Commerce is a joke plain and simple. They pander to a few large corporations and ignore the needs of the small businesses that make up their bread and butter business. My company stopped being a Chamber member 4 years ago and no one noticed.
ReplyDeleteHeeter makes $400,000 a year and Levi made $500,000 a year. All of the top lieutenants make $100,000 a year. What does it get you? Nothing. Stop funding this business reject job program and support organizations that do visible work.
I have never heard any chamber of commerce or any chamber of commerce official ever mention the words "free market". Mostly they support government programs that their companies benefit from or harm competitors.
ReplyDeleteIt's really kind of sad to watch these clueless people try to be relevant in civic affaris year after year. In 2010 one of their big three priorities was crime. Remember? Neither do I.
ReplyDeleteTheir idea of the east side is watching a game at Arrowhead from Clark Hunt's box.
And their idea of compensating people seems to be, if you pay an incompetent or mediocre person alot of money, that makes them competent.
And as others have commented, the small businesses that create 85% of the jobs and make up the majority of the revenue stream are left to fend for themselves.
And it's been going on in KCMO for decades. Works for some folks; just not for most of them.
9:10 Hit the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteThe last 3 Police Chief's have made crime and homicides number one.
Nothing has changed. All we get is a "new" fancy name program to fight crime. With poor results.
City Hall promised to make crime their number on project, and the citizens are still waiting.
Poor performance by our City Officials.
sexy.
