Regarding the last bit of drama coming from Council Redistricting . . .
KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS TELL US ABOUT AN EVEN GREATER PUSH FROM BROOKSIDE/WALDO FOLKS WHO FEAR JOINING RANKS WITH THE 6TH DISTRICT!!!
Unfortunately, these folks aren't really part of Brookside/Waldo . . . They just aspire to be . . . And, apparently, they fear that the move the 6th District will make them irrelevant . . . Newsflash . . . It will!!!
Redistricting is currently back in committee and the odd chance that the Council will screw with the recommended map has more than a few people still watching this process.
The joke . . .
GET READY FOR MORE KANSAS CITY (LOWER) MIDDLE-CLASS WHITE PEOPLE TO CLAIM THAT THEY'RE BEING DISENFRANCHISED!!!
So . . . What's the root cause of this hot mess?
1. The Voting Rights Act - Basically the foundation of Civil Rights in this nation dictates that gerrymandering minorities out of political power is against the law no matter how much people in JoCo want that to happen in KC Proper.
b. The Incredible Shrinking 3rd District - Like it or not, over the years there has been a documented mass exodus from this part of town. Efforts to keep the voting strength of this district intact have created a bit of tension in other aspects of the redistricting process.
So . . .We can expect more complaining coming soon under the false pretense that City Hall is accountable to the tiny fraction of Kansas City residents who vote.
DEVELOPING . . .
And the 3rd District has elected such a parade of loser like Terry Riley, Sharon Sanders Brooks, Ken Bachuus, and on and on.
ReplyDeleteNot that any of the elected folks or the self-appointed black "leaders" have lost. In fact they've done very wll for themselves.
But the community has died. Where are all these folks now when the rash of murders in the last couple weeks has hit a peak?
Completely silent. The tired victimization/entitlement routine is coming home to roost.
Now that it's more obvious than ever who's responsible for the violence and mayhem, the blame game needs to find a new target.
Or some serious leadership to try to tie the east side with the rest of the world.
The two parties have gerrymandered districts to keep minorities from voting forever. Of course the minority they are denying representation to are the opposing party.
ReplyDeleteSomeone who gives a shit could probably look at the demographics and see if the new residents are more inclined to vote than those in the 3rd District.
This is John Sharp whining. the only person irrelevant is John Sharp.
ReplyDeleteActually, Tony, the voting rights act is only applicable if you can find historical discrimination and an unrepresented voting populace. The 3rd and the 5th have had stable representation from African Americans for decades now and that wouldn’t change under the Community Map proposed by John Sharp, Bonnaye Mims, and April Cushing. Indeed, the proposed districts would allow for 60% African American representation in both the 3rd and 5th, more than enough to achieve fair representation.
ReplyDeleteFurther, the 6th district as it now stands has somewhere around a 40% minority population. Map #1 would take a fair portion of that away and place it in the 5th. That’s not promoting diversity. That’s the exact opposite in that this redistricting process guarantees that the 6th decreases its ethnic mix as select portions get consumed by other city districts.
Finally, the proposed map #1 goes up to 55th st along the Westside corridor. That’s not people who “aspire” to be a part of Waldo and Brookside. That IS Waldo and Brookside. Their economic and infrastructure needs are wildly different from what is needed in South KC. It’s best for everyone that they remain in the 4th while the 6th keeps its focus on South KC.
I’m in support of the Community Map and I hope that others are as well.
I'd be pissed too if Tracy Ward's skank ass wanted to represent me.
ReplyDeleteThird district people are being relocated to cemeteries thanks to the violence.
ReplyDelete9:59: Those are the ones who vote.
ReplyDeleteI live in Waldo and I'm all for moving to 6. My neighborhood's needs have nothing to do with Brookside or the Plaza's needs. I need curbs and sidewalks, and most of 4's already built out.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'm not white so there's also that.
The Community Map is just a Ruskin Map or Hickman Mills School District Map. John Sharp is losing and he did not like the map is now promoting.
ReplyDeleteTony forgot to mention that the real reason the 4th got butched was to provide a district for the mexicans and the other hispanic leaders to run for shitty council. They could have easily grew the 3rd north to the river and left the 4th alone. Be honest tony what does the NE have in common with the plaza? Nothing. The funny part is Mexicans broke the back of their White political masters to get "their" district. Too funny. And TKC is a liar blaming black folks.
ReplyDeleteTKC isn't blaming anyone. The basic fact is the northland has added population at such a rate, those two districts have to shrink. Someone has to jump north. If the third jumped to grab enough people to shrink the first and second, the minority vote would be too diluted, and Freedom would screech. So the fourth has to make the jump, thereby losing some of its southern boundary. The Community Map is just John Sharp's bitchfest. It won't go anywhere.
ReplyDeleteAnd 8:31 am, the losers Terry Riley and Ken Bacchus were not elected from the third district, but from that other bastion of good government known as the fifth district.
