Take a good look at the latest in local online news:
THE KC REPORTER IS NOW LIVE AND LOOKS PRETTY GOOD!!!

I've been intrigued by this project by Alan McArthur because he promises to do some of the straight up journalism and reporting that so many media watchers lament is missing.
Very often people bother me with comments about the sad state of local journalism and how they'd like to read some real reporting on the web and not just gossip, rumor, stories from anonymous sources and hotties . . . And after that speech, said dumb-ass will pretty much give away the fact that he/she has been reading this blog so closely that a typo from last Tuesday morning in a link compilation that was one of 30 posts on that day is remembered vividly . . . Finally, the critic will say something else about my credibility (lol) and we end up agreeing that Jordan Carver is the best person in the world.
Anyhoo . . .
I'M LINKING ALAN MCARTHUR'S NEWS SITE BECAUSE HIS JOURNALISTIC EFFORTS DESERVE ATTENTION AND IT'S AWESOME TO SEE A YOUNG DUDE REPORTING ON KANSAS CITY!!!
Good stuff. Did you see one interrobang?! I didn't. So that means it looks like he's doing his own thing.
Also . . . Nobody really owns the web (yet) and the most dedicated news readers take a look at everything . . . So enjoy one more source for your Kansas City reading and check out the really great stuff this young reporter has to offer.
Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, indeed. They are going to need it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not particularly impressed with the look or content. They certainly aren't the equal of kansascity.com, or even, gasp!, TKC. And TKC makes no money.
There are only a few, national-type ads. They are probably bringing in only a minimal amount of money.
Maybe it will be enough for one person to eke out a modest living, although I don't know how they will pay the office rent.
If the metropolitan area is truly clamoring for something of this sort we had better see some local ad support very quickly.
Gingers...
ReplyDeleteNothing ventured nothing gained
ReplyDeleteBut why couldn't they have lined up a little local ad support for the launch?
ReplyDeleteThis tells me there's no interest or support.
It's doomed.
This is weird.
ReplyDeleteThey "launch" with a lot of dummy text still showing up on the front page?
And you click on links, and there's nothing there.
KansasCityKansan.com and even TKC are much better than this.
If they throw up a pic of London Andrews' enormous ass, I bet they'll get some readers.
ReplyDeleteI would interrobang London Andrews.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'.
lol.
ReplyDeleteI just hope Alan has a day job.
ReplyDeleteIs there any original writing on the site at all?
ReplyDeleteThe headlines all link to KCStar stories, platte country landmark or press releases.
There is no attribution on any photos so it's either stock or stolen.
This pales in comparison to past start-ups like kcfreepress.com who at least had original content and was 100 times better than this (and still went out of business).
Plus the design is atrocious. Not something to take seriously, so I guess it's no big surprise tony is throwing his weight behind it.
FAIL
you're going to wish him luck and not bitch that it's just one more white guy, trying to report?
ReplyDeleteThis looks like shit! Who's this Lorem Ipsum guy? He looks pretty interesting. He's also all over the site!
ReplyDeleteA lot of the links don't work, but here's the big hammer:
It costs $10 to list a church? And 99 cents to list an event? I've got news for you, there are people outpricing you there, Citizen Kane: I can list an event on The Star's website for nothing! And guess what? people will see it there.
You should probably check in at kcfreepress.com and see what kind of lessons they've learned.
Their Facebook is STILL "liked" by a grand total of 33 people.
