CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER FIGHTS FOR RIVER REFORM
Congressman Cleaver is asking tough questions and demanding quick action to prevent another Missouri River flood disaster. The Congressman testified today at a hearing of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment.
“Time is not on our side,” says Fifth District Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II. “We must act and we must act now to repair and rebuild flood control infrastructure along the Missouri River. Our efforts, though, cannot and must not stop there. There will be no repeat performance.”
Congressman Cleaver joined residents from the Fifth District and lawmakers from Missouri and four other states, to call for immediate changes in flood control prediction and preparation. The statewide numbers are staggering in the wake of the historic flooding. Clay, Jackson, Ray, Lafayette, and Saline Counties alone experienced a total of more than 31,100 cropland acres flooded and more than $26.6 million in lost market revenue.
“The numbers, though, do not begin to put a face on this tragedy. These are hard-working families who lost their homes, their businesses and their very livelihoods,” says Congressman Cleaver. “They watched their dreams wash away as the flood waters continued to rise.”
Congressman Cleaver says the events and actions that led to the flooding must be examined and changed to make sure there are resources, at all levels, to repair, recover and prevent future flooding. Flood control, he says, must be the primary purpose of the Missouri Reservoir System.

150+ days of NO RUNNING WATER continues for residents along the Missouri River North of St. Joseph. Nobody seems to be willing to do a dang thing about it either. Destruction by design...we spent billions on those dams and the USACE is too incompetent to manage them.
ReplyDeletefix it.
ReplyDeleteThe problem does need to be fixed... this cannot keep happening.
ReplyDeleteEven after all these years in Congress, Cleaver has zero serious clout, especaially now with the Dems in the minority.
ReplyDeleteAnd his big claim to fame is charing the Black Caucus, a holdover from the '60s and utterly irrelevant today.
stupid nig nog!
ReplyDeleteHe will get more done for river concerns, THAN HE DOING FOR THE COLD WARRIORS, VIETNAM VETERANS, and the Bannister Federal Weapons Complex Workers.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait (sarcasm) to start paying for obamacare. Thank you clueless Cleaver.
ReplyDeleteCleaver is all talk. He's worse than Obama at speaking. He says "uh" so many times unless he's scripted that it's embarrassing to listen to him.
ReplyDeleteCleaver has unfinished business at the BANNISTER FEDERAL WEAPON COMPLEX, too many irons in the fire Rev.,WHAT ABOUT THE CANCER COCTAILS being served up at that facility? I thought there was to be accountability? GRANDSTANDING does not work anymore...I WANT ACTION AND RESULTS, get on the case Rev.
