It's worth nothing that mainstream media has yet to pick up the very real RECALL EFFORT UNDERWAY AGAINST JERMAINE REED . . . So this name change could be a crucial step in gaining some traction for youngest politico on The City Council.

How about the great Monarchs pitcher Hilton Smith or maybe the trailblazing owner of the Monarchs, J.L. Wilkinson (who was, gasp, a white man)!
Say you had Hilton Smith Boulevard, for example. Then the newscasters could say "Police are investigating a triple homicide on Hilton Smith Blvd. tonight. Although dozens of bystanders saw the shootings, no one has come forward with information on who the shooters may have been."
Then, now that sounds much better!

That is a real expense and the price would be better spend on the people of KC not on something that benefits no one but the licensing arm of the King family.
Once again Kansas City comes up with a great idea to eliminate crime. More cops? Citizen involvement? Never.

What the heck, let's drop the name Kansas City and call it MLK City. That will end all crime.
Putting more officers on prospect will just displace the problems as the foot patrol project has. The department will tell you that crime in those areas has gone down, but in reality it has just been displaced to surrounding areas and will reset in the foot patrol areas after the project is over.

ReplyDeleteI'll never understand the American idea to constantly rename things. Or tear down old buildings and put up new ugly ones. MLK rocked. But there are indeed a million MLK drives across the nation along with Cezar Chavez streets. Renaming shit is always a distraction. Helping people is hard work, renaming shit is easy. Listening to people grumble about the renaming for the next 60 decades until everyone who remembers Prospect is another pain in the ass. Look, it's a street and we have 10% unemployment. What's important and what's bullshit?
