TKC EXCLUSIVE & BREAKING NEWS!!! WORD ON THE STREET: O'DOWD'S ZONA ROSA COULD BE CLOSING SOON!!!

The Great Recession is taking a horrible toll on the local bar biz. Not only is it harder than ever for local drinkers to put together a few coins to go out but also bar owners are facing higher costs with fewer customers.

To wit .  ..

VIA THE TKC ELECTRONIC HOTLINE . . . CHECK THIS WORD THE VERY DISTINCT POSSIBILITY THAT O'DOWD'S ZONA ROSA COULD BE CLOSING SOON FROM A RATHER INFORMED AND AWESOME TKC TIPSTER!!!

Check it:

ZONA ROSA/O'DOWD'S

KC Hopps will be closing the doors on O’dowds Zona Rosa October 16, 2011. Rumors have been swirling around for months, but it has recently been confirmed by a member of management.

None of the employees have been told, nor will they be. They will just come to work that following Monday and the doors will be locked.

Can guarantee you that KC Hopps will deny this. But it’s happening. Investors have pulled their money from this location.

Very sad, this place still is crazy busy on the weekends. Nothing will be put in its place in the immediate future. So now the building that sits on the main strip right as you come into Zona will be vacant. The people that own and run Zona really need to rethink things, they are losing tenants left and right.

HEY!!! Didn’t hear any of this from me. Just feel bad that people will have no warning that they are losing their jobs. Pisses me off.

This is exceptionally sad because this O'Dowd's location just celebrated their 5 year anniversary in the Fall of last year. The good folks @ KC Hopps did not return phone calls. We'll post whatever e-mail reply they have . . . In the meantime, now would be a great time to visit this beloved location and show your support. Tip your servers well.

DEVELOPING . . .

  3. It's a DEPRESSION. Folks are drinking at home. Besides with all the DUI checkpoints it's too dangerous to drink away from home.

  8. Zona Rosa thought they would become the Plaza North but from the first time I drove through it I realized it was doomed to fail. It's a PITA to get in and out of, and the management encouraged a mix of stores and offerings that never quite fit the area demographics. O'Dowds won't be the last fail we see from Zona Rosa. Not by a long shot.

Oh that's just brilliant journalism. Unattributed quotes from crappy employees. Of course these places fail, they are built to fail. Seen the tax code lately? Have you seen how these places bounce around between 'owners'?

That's how you do business in 2011.

  15. Something about this doesn't seem right. You don't close a restaurant in a major retail area in October. Zona Rosa can't turn this prime location into another concept in time to capture the holiday dining dollars. It seems to me that both parties would benefit by staying open until the new year. The loss of gift card sales alone from closing the only Hops concept north of the river would make it logical to wait until the first of the year.

It was a poorly designed restaurant and not the right concept for the location. Hops desparately needs an upscale concept that works in high profile locations. I can understand the desire to open in major new developments, but O'Dowds is not the right concept. I hope they do not repeat this mistake at the P&L.

  16. I don't know if they are closing, but I do know from experience that when KC Hopps closes a restaurant they place their employees at other KC Hopps locations. They don't just leave them out to dry.

  17. This is true. I worked at Los Cabos and they told us they would be closing before the fact. They also gave me the option to go to any of their restaurants to continue serving. Saved me from worrying about finding a new job in this horrible economy.

Zona Rosa is a chick-mall. Guys get tired of taking their women to ZR and watching them shop. Not many places for men.

  19. Yes sir. Closing in two weeks. It's official.

  20. Just walked by. Sad to see it close. Zona Rosa is going great otherwise landing wet seal, the Limited, and J Jill recently. Michaels is also moving into the old Ethan Allen.
