For a brief shining moment Kansas City was able to dream about this town permanently hosting a competitive sport that people of color have yet to dominate.
Sadly . . .
KANSAS CITY ISN'T ANY CLOSER TO GETTING AN NHL TEAM DESPITE THE RECENT MARKETING GIMMICK!!!
The crowds for the exhibition are nice but over the course of a long season the Kansas City market is completely unproven. Even worse, this town has mostly been used as a bargaining chip when it comes to NHL teams moving to much nicer places.
So, a few practice games might be newsworthy but it's not a substitute for the team we were pro team this town promised to play in the rapidly aging Sprint Center in much the same way that hockey isn't a real sport.

Actually, the NHL is loooking for a serious major league city that can financially support a hockey team. KC= zero for two.
ReplyDeleteWhat are Sly's terms? That the city can't provide for the team's safety, so they have to be able to skate and shoot at the same time?
Great priorities. And now, on to the new downtown taxpayer-supported hotel!
Lets get an MLB and NFL team first.
ReplyDeleteNBA... hockey wont work here.
ReplyDeleteKC's search for a jocksniffer identity continues...
ReplyDeleteMoney talks and bull shit walks and Kansas City is wearing its walking shoes.
ReplyDeleteNBA nor the NHL think of KC as a destination. for a franchise. The only teams which would be interested would be so poorly financed and such losers, who would want them?
Unless somebody in KC ponies up the money it will never happen.
The crowd size was totally generated by freebie tickets to bullshit the league into thinking KC is a hockey town. KC would not support an NHL team with a sufficient following. Bad idea.
