ReplyDeleteUnlike public safety, playing at real estate developer is something the mayor and council spend all their time on. And their usual modus operandi, just as in this case, is to give away your money that could be used on cops, streets, and all the usual actual services they were elected to provide.

KCMO can't afford many more big "successes" like Sprint Center and the P&L District.

This is how it works. Developers get tax breaks under a law created by lawyers. Developers hire lawyers to request tax breaks from agencies. Agencies have in house lawyers to help review the requests. At the same time, agencies hire outside lawyers to assist in house lawyers. In the west edge case, a legal firm (Polsinelli) is probably assisted by another legal firm to get their tax breaks. The average taxpayer is clueless and can only sit back at and silently mutter WTF? Are you average? Fight back taxpayer. The very least you can do is chastise the legal profession. Speak out dammit!
