HORRIBLE IDEA FROM THE NEW PITCH OWNERS: HER KC DEAD TREE MAGAZINE!!!

Holy Audrina Patridge this sounds like a horrible idea and I'm pretty sure there are already about 3 magazines in KC that already are operating under this horrible Dead Tree Media Assumption:

SouthComm Extends Women's Magazine Brand in Kansas City

Her Kansas City to launch October 5th

"Under parent company SouthComm, Inc., The Pitch will launch Her Kansas City on October 5th, 2011. Her Kansas City is an extension of Her Nashville magazine, currently in its third year of publication in the Nashville area."

Check the tragic description:

"Her Kansas City will be a free monthly publication and will be distributed throughout Jackson, Platte, and Clay counties in Missouri, and in Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas. It will feature a range of topics of interest to women of all age groups and will focus on content that is intelligent, imaginative and inspiring."

And here's the PR Phrasing:

"“We’re excited to extend the operations of Her into the Kansas City market,” said Abby White Plachy, editor-in-chief of Her Nashville and executive editor of Her Kansas City. “We’ve really enjoyed collaborating with the staff at The Pitch and have gathered an incredible group of contributors. We look forward to being a part of this vibrant city.”

Inquiries may be directed to editor@herkansascity.com."

MAKE NO MISTAKE . . . THIS DEAD TREE MEDIA DOUBLE DOWN FROM THE NEW PITCH OWNERS IS JUST ANOTHER SIGN THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND THE SMALL TIME KANSAS CITY MEDIA MARKET!!!

Then again, given the desperation of so many unemployed Dead Tree Media Journalists . . . Don't be surprised to see a great many laid off Star employees in drag and trying to look for a gig.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. Missed on this one T, the young female is being targeted by mags like this one, all following the locally originated "her life". There is not a Doctor's office in the metro without this mag, and they are growing, by leaps and bounds, new franchises in Dallas, Denver, St. Louis, Louisville, all doing well and making tons of cash.

It's no surprise the pitch did it, watch the others that follow.

  2. doctor's offices? That's what's going to save print media?

    Oh boy.

  3. sorry dude. Not taking business advice from a guy who goes around saying he lives in his mom's basement. Haha.

  4. Tony must have seen the advance cover of the first issue. The headline reads "MEN TO AVOID" and has a picture of Tony and Alonzo playing hide the vienna sausage.

  5. The beautiful women rule the world, the rest of us are just faces in the crowd.
It is, after all, HER LIFE.

  6. oh no, one of their writers found Tony's blog.

  7. I'm also starting a new women's magazine.

    I'm calling it "Shallow."

Articles in the premiere edition will include:

"Hair combing tips that really work"

"Three little-known vegetables you will love"

"Love handles: Ten chubby girls tell how they got their man"

"Sex in public places can revitalize any relationship"

Watch for it in doctors' offices everywhere!

  8. Well they should certainly be taking advice from someone who has such a successful business model as yours. Writing a bunch of half truths and not getting any advertising money for it. You're sure showing them!

  9. I am going to start a new magazine in Kansas City called: Educated Inner City Youth.

I plan to print five copies to give to the target audience. I might have three left over though.

  10. 4:46: I think five copies will definitely be enough.

  11. Five will definitely be enough to distribute to the KCMOSD Scholars

  12. that will last about 30 days.

  13. My new magazine is Johnson County Relaxation for MILFS.

Oh wait, crap that ain't possible. Perhaps we could fit some of them in for 15 minutes of cum slurping? Maybe an up-skirt photo-rama of Momma chasing her kiddo on the way to the soccer field?

See Tony, you just don't have the chops to come up with great creative concepts.

  14. As a former dead tree media employee I don't think VVM would have, ever have done this but then again they also admitted they had no idea how to manage a market as small as KC when they sold that weekly. They're used to business strategies that fit for big markets like L.A., NY, Dallas and so on. But to VVM's credit, one of the big reasons they wouldn't have done this is that they would've viewed it as hurting the journalistic integrity they tried so hard to get. Southcomm, on the other hand, has a great feel for small markets like KC and will probably make a lot of money off of this precisely because it will cater to a very small but very monied class - not unlike 435 South - who will be happy to support a society mag about how awesome they are. Of course the flip side is the content will be completely about kissing ass, not unlike 435 South. Which is why, if you've been paying attention, the Pitch is slowly turning into Ink.. or at least Ink if it was run by people who really really like the New Yorker. Which is pretty fucking boring.

  15. Sounds like it's just a dumb competitor to the even more shallow INK magazine.

  16. INK is shallow, but isn't that what those slacker types want?
