The Great Recession Is Ford Tough

WDAF: "There are some big changes coming to the Ford Claycomo Assembly Plant in the Northland, and it could mean a long layoff for over 2,000 workers starting next spring."

  1. Whatever the reasoning, it feels like a slap in the face to those who fought to keep the place open with tax benefits.

  2. How do you figure? They're going to stop making the Escape. They have to change the plant over to make the new vehicle (C-Max, probably). The plant can't run while they're doing that. All those people can't do any work while the plant isn't running. So, they get a temporary layoff while this happens. It has nothing to do with recession, or the workers, or the taxpayers, or anything else. That's just the way things happen at a big auto assembly plant when they change vehicle lines.

  3. Keep believing that I know that some of the employees want to believe that until a lot of them aren't invited back.

Face it, gas prices are going down because fewer people are driving. Car sales have been stagnant and dropping for years. This is a mass layoff and it's not going to work out good for anybody but greedy executives and their stock options.
