TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! TAKE A LOOK AT THE KINDER, GENTLER KANSAS CITY COUNCIL REDISTRICTING!!!

In much the same way that Alessandra Ambrosio can still look rather sweet while packing a knife . . . What I'm hearing is that FOR NOW . . . Kansas City Council Redistricting has been rather tame.

Still . . . There might be a few conflicts brewing that are worth a peek.

And since the City's website isn't very user friendly and sorta slow . . .

THANKS TO AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS WE HAVE THE PRELIMINARY MAPS THAT THE MIGHT SOON DEFINE KANSAS CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS!!!

Here's Scenario 1

Scenario 1 Ethnicity Breakdown

Draft Scenario 2

And the Ethnicity Draft 2 breakdown

Finally, Redistricting Draft Scenario 3

And the corresponding Ethnicity Scenario breakdown.

For the love of Jebus PLEASE don't complain about taking ethnicity and racial demographics into play until you read something about the Voting Rights Act

And for the most part those are just fun maps and figures for local geeks to take a look at . . . You're welcome.

What's more important are some insightful glimpses into the process . . .

The good news first from a rather KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTER:

"Northlanders are protecting black and Hispanic voting rights while proposing the 2 districts in the north that they want."

That's sweet and if cooler heads prevail we could come through the realignment without too much fighting.

A couple of things are standing in the way . . .

Watching the meeting on channel 2 and communicating with a few people it's clear there are committee members who clearly don't know what they're doing. Right now they're getting polite correction from City Staff . . . I doubt the public will be as nice.

And then there's so much background chatter regarding the influence of Council Dude John Sharp and appointees connected to him politically.

On some fronts there just isn't much compromise.

Also . . . The idea of drawing the 5th District into Waldo and Brookside is just silly and would also assure that Councilman/Pastor Brooks would only get one term. Don't argue with me on this point.

Anyhoo . . . Like last time, it's doubtful that Council Dude Sharp will have much of an impact on the process.

The cooperation is nice to hear and because declining population numbers from the 3rd District after the Census are so nightmarish . . . There's really not too much to fight about . . . Yet.

The Committee will meet again on August 31. Just like last time, panelists can alter their maps and even submit new ones as this process begins open hearings seeking public comment starting in mid-September.

DEVELOPING . . .

  1. So we won, right?

  2. Seems to me that aside from redistricting for SIZE, it should be based to level out the economic areas... that skin color of householders is the last thing that drawing should be about. KC is segregated enough already.

  3. And these folks really have to fight over who gets to do what; they've done such a great job with KCMO already!
Just making sue, as th epie gets ever smaller, we're all in there to get "our fair share".

  5. Hurricane Irene update. Will some moron wanting to put a picture up on his/her Facebook page get out in the midst and take a flying shard, twig, or brick to the head?

    Damn, that'll be a shame...

  6. The city's website seems a bit out of date.

  7. Two of these scenarios aren't even legal as the 5th district is not contiguous. What a joke.

  10. Agree with 1:09. Kansas City seems to be on a losing streak.

    And these maps are stupid.

  11. Just don't dilute the black vote.

  12. Brookside and Waldo will never be in the 5th. 6th either.

  13. Radioman, it's the black population that insists on being segregated. They fear integration as a way to dilute their power.

The districts are not based on size, they are based on population. And the Third screams racism if anyone suggests they jump the river to pick up more population. So they won't. They will gerrymander the 4th and leave the 3rd alone.

Let's see how Glorioso and Fairfield arrange things to benefit themselves, because that's all they care about.

  14. Still looking for London Andrews, not some skinny assed girl.

  15. What "power" does the black community have? In the last election, the entire 3rd district cast a TOTAL of only 5000 votes. And if what's left of the east side is an example of what having power can do, somebody had better change fast.
What passes for power in the black community is a handful of old "leaders" from the '60s who have mostly held down their neighborhoods for theor opwn personal gain. And the business community and the city just keep doling out money and giving these losers testimonial dinners. I wonder why things don't change.
