TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! CITY HALL COMMITTEE TALKS SMALL BIZ ON KANSAS CITY'S WESTSIDE!!!

Just got back from the Kansas City, Missouri Special Committee on Small Business that they're holding at Sylvia's Deli tonight.

Without question it was a big showing for The Hispanic Economic Development Corporation.

There were several folks on the panel, in this pic (from left to right) there's a rep from The City Manager's office Council Dudes Scott Wagner,  6th District At-Large dude Scott Taylor and 3rd District Councilman Jermaine Reed.

TKC FUN FACT . . . SCOTT TAYLOR DROPPED A BIT OF SPANISH TO START THE MEETING!!!

HEDC Executive Director Bernardo Ramirez started off the testimony portion of the evening with some info about his organization.

Sylvia Raya, the owner of the deli, spoke of her experience opening a biz in Kansas City. She noted a few problems but overall credited HEDC with helping her get her start.

Beto Lopez spoke a bit about his biz and collaboration with the City & HEDC about his small biz.

All things considered, this WAS NOT really an angry meeting that launched complaints about the way City Hall does biz. The visit into the local Latino Community was far more cordial than any of these other meetings have been. Latinos can endure just about anything so some of the problems that face small biz in Kansas City aren't really met with cries of injustice that have happened in other venues. In fact, from what I noticed, the Westside community was simply glad for the rare bit of attention on a weekday night.

  5. Kudos to the new Councilmembers for trying to find new ways to assist the public. "Business as usual" isn't always the best route and sometimes even small changes in procedures can bring improvement to services.
