THE TKC WEEKLY POWER RANKINGS!!!

We can't all be as strong as Wendy Fiore, seen here demonstrating wind and boob power, but these Kansas City people flexed their muscles quite effectively this week. Check it:

POLITICOS

1. John McGurk - The New Sly James Chief Of Staff is now an upstart Kansas City political denizen and influential politico with the strong advantage of a clean slate.

2. Theresa Garza Ruiz/Genaro Ruiz - A Kansas City Latino Power Couple with connections from The Courthouse to City Hall.

3. MO House Reps. Mike Talboy & John Rizzo - According to a new House District Map, they could be presiding over districts with a strong Latino influence.

4. Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders - His moves may be silly and mostly recycled but there's no doubting his strength as a top, local elected official.

5. MO. House Rep. Paul LeVota - His State Senate run is attracting more attention than most and could set the stage for some remarkable Kansas City political upheaval.

NEWSIES

1. Eric Wesson - Part of a bold effort to bring The KC Call into the digital age.

2. Kris Ketz - Your Twitter Friend And Mine.

3. Hey Cameraman - Covering all things digital media.

4. El Bryan - A comic wit that makes headlines that much more interesting.

5. Micheal Mahoney - Legendary newsman with the fastest Blackberry in the biz.

STRONGEST WARM WEATHER CRIMES

1. Rolling Gun Battle - Bringing Kansas City violence to random strangers from every part of town.

2. Copper Theft - A strong sign that the drug war is all FAIL.

3. Flash Mob Riot - Digital gatherings are almost never a good thing.

4. Online video beat down - From knock out attacks to fast food fights, everybody is watching you get your ass kicked.

5. The Ponzi Investment Scheme - The biz plan behind all of your favorite sites and that social network you think is changing the world.

As always, this list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a (mostly) weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people.

Comments

  1. all wrong. Usual suck up nominations like the Golden Globes. What would be fun if he'd name his awesome tipsters by name. Now THAT would get some people talking, eh?

Otherwise, it's all predictable week after week, as if he doesn't give it any thought until about, um, 7:20 on a frinight. But I think it's a little light on Mexicans and Italians. Where's Joe Arce's name this week?

  2. Tony: I think there's a misprint. Surely you MEANT to say...

    NEWSIES

    1. Eric Wesson - Part of a bold effort to NOT be a Total Ass-Wipe.

  3. That chick is to tits what Tony is to stupid.

  4. Eric Wesson, The Call and a $39 fee to subscribe to the digital edition... I'd rather pay for Funk's Front Porch.

  5. Tony,
You forgot to mention Governor Nixon, who eloquently vetoed the Enterprise bill which would have eroded civil rights. And he vetoed the bill, SB 188, in front of he old St. Louis courthouse where the Dred Scott case was decided. Governor Nixon rocks!

  6. Useless gesture. It will be overturned Monday.

  7. He should have put Mark Funkhouser in there for killing off a bill that was rushed through the government. Course that would go against the crowd in here. I thought it was pretty funny tho, a last minute veto.

  8. Rizzo will have a strong Hispanic district? Who knew Ryan Silvey's district had that many Hispanics?

  9. I found that redistricting map to be quite peculiar as it seems to have been submitted by democrats. It's seems as though they are seeking to deliver a lubricated surprise to a one Jason Kander. The question I submit is who seeks to erase such a fine gentleman like Mr. Kander from political existence?

  10. Eric Wesson is a lousy excuse of a writer. He can't write, he can't edit, he doesn't know the basics of newspaper style, and he isn't grammatical. The CALL is a rag, nothing more, digital or not.

  11. "He isn't grammatical." So 257 I guess you are? I guess you know newspaper style? All I know is the Call brings relevant issues to the conversation table and that's good enough for me. I understand exactly what they are saying.

  12. Yes, 7:53, that is the point. Some of the best things I have ever read were poorly written. Communication is all that matters.

  13. The Call is a very poorly written newspaper.

  14. The Call is awful, and it's not just the poor grammar ( and yes, you can be grammatical). The sentence structure is horrid, the paragraphs have no structure or theme, the editing tanks. It isn't a matter of people understanding the slanted writing that is being spoon fed to them. It's the matter of blurring the lines between news and editorial and presenting it as reported fact.

And Byron, I disagree. Good communication does matter, and it matters a great deal that if it is presented in a news story, it be unbiased and not slanted. Otherwise it's a propaganda filled blather designed to separate, not unite.
The Call doesn't enlighten or educate or provoke thoughtful review or conversation. In that way, as a newspaper, it is a failure.
