Okay, so not all of us are as strong as Nicole Wilkins-Lee during her classic workout photo shoot . . . But here's a look at some of the top Kansas City power players this week.
Check it:
POLITICOS
1. Mayor-Elect Sly James - During a slow week he's still managing to keep his honeymoon period with Kansas City voters on the right track.
2. Missouri House Rep. John Rizzo - He put to rest all of the ongoing rumors that he has any sympathy or political connection to the Payday Loan Industry.
3. Gov. Jay Nixon - With a lot of money in the bank and no real challengers on the way, his strategy of keeping quiet and fading into the background seems solid.
4. City Council Dude John Sharp - He was pushing TIFS for old and busted Kansas City retail for an outdated replacement to the soccer complex this town lost . . . He was "successful" this week.
5. KCMSD Superintendent John Covington And School Board Prez Airick L. West - They spearheaded Kansas City's most blatant case of Union Busting in years.
NEWSIES
1. Darla Jaye - Online, on AM & FM and with a rabidly loyal fanbase . . . She really is The Queen Of Kansas City talk radio.
2. Christina Dubill - It takes a strong newsie to be so damn pleasant every morning.
3. Kris Ketz - The only KC Newsie with a Twitter feed you actually want to follow.
4. Charles Ferruzza - The final word in Kansas City on all things foodie.
5. Kris Merrill - I have to admit his show is growing on me . . . And I like that fact that he has a blog where he allows people to beat up on him constantly.
JACKSON COUNTY POWER PLAYERS
1. Calvin Williford - He's the man behind Mike Sanders (no fish sticks) that strangely manages to keep out of the press and keep reporting out of the Courthouse down to a minimum.
2. Paul LeVota -I have never talked to the guy, no joke, but his upcoming Missouri Senate race and high profile in the local political scene make him a powerful force in local & County politics.
3. Chris And Nick Moreno - They're already up and running with a new consulting firm. As new elections and redistricting season start up, look for their efforts to garner more attention.
3. Theresa Garza Ruiz - People thought she was down and out but this Legislator just might make a serious effort to run for County Exec. and continue her upward momentum.
4. Jim Nunnelly - This dude from The COMBAT anti-drug program has been more instrumental in picking the New County prosecutor than anybody realizes.
5. Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders - Depending on how he handles the local, Democrat revolt over Steve Bough campaign donation double dealing . . . He could salvage his so-far solid Democrat credentials. We have a strong feeling he's gonna do something more interesting than just stay quiet in order to spin the story his way.
This list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a (mostly) weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people.
no.
ReplyDeleteWhatever Tony.
ReplyDeletethe Leader of today's trendy teens, Justin Bieber has killed Twitter. Even HE knows 140 characters won't get you laid. Bieber's signed off Twitter, presumably as a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteAnd Just as Twitter has realized there's no real way to monetize it. (Sell your stock TODAY!!)
Cheech. Didn't even last as long as the CB Radio craze!
Steve Bough should just go ahead and step down.

ReplyDeleteKnowing both gentlemen I'm much more disturbed about Nunnley than I am Steve Bough
ReplyDeleteSteve Bough and Phil LeVota ROCK
ReplyDeleteMaking Tony's list is more fulfilling than a three day cocaine bender with my roommate's ex-girlfriend. GSUS (Good Show, You Suck)

ReplyDeletePaul LeVota is the man.
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno he hate you! Boy you so crazy!!
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno litters the page with positive comments about himself, just like Terry O'Riley. Birds of a feather lose together.
ReplyDelete1259 on a friday and you are attacking Chris Moreno because you think he's a loser. Life must be depressing. Remind me never to get to that point.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious! I have had probably 4 or 5 conversations with Chris Moreno over the last 10 years; but this blog makes me really want to speak with him more.
ReplyDeleteI am yet to meet anyone who with just the mention of his name drives Jackson County's most corrupt politicians to the point of insanity.
I am doing that because I foreclosed on my home and she pays my rent.
ReplyDeleteTheresa Garza-Ruiz stays winning
ReplyDeleteStop it Jeremy! Stop bullying me. Chris Moreno is bad cause I say so. He was suppose to go away when we tried attacking him last year damnit! I hate him and his winning ways.
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno delivers Tony another massive amount of reader visits.
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world does Chris Moreno have on some of these corrupt politicians that make them just lose their minds when they read his name?
ReplyDeleteTony's Kansas City is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteHow can he be 7-1 when I can name 2 losers off the top of my head? SSB and Jeremy?
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno I hate you because you are better than me! I tell myself every day that I am as good as you! I even try to keep track of your win-loss record so that I can beat yours. Gosh darn you Chris Moreno!
ReplyDeleteI am good enough smart enough and better than Chris Moreno...and gosh darnit..people like me.
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno did not run Jeremy Ploegers race dbag. Kevin Garner did and he rocks. Get your facts straight before stalking someone. You can't even do that right.
ReplyDeleteOops...Chris Moreno upset ya head fool !

ReplyDeleteKansas City stays winning.
ReplyDeleteJackson County stays winning
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno stays winning which means good labor loving Democrats stay winning !
ReplyDeleteI'll take Chris Moreno on my team anyday over those attacking him. He has made a name for himself; what have they done? Nothing. Beg for a County salary? Beg to eat at the big kids table? Beg to be considered relevant consultants?
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno all day long over those people.
I friggin love me some Chris Moreno. His name gets put in a post and BOOM! 100 comments. Young hard working Democrats who have been down his road love him while lazy corrupt politicians hate him.
ReplyDeleteWhat a loser! Go to bed, son.
ReplyDeleteMoreno has set a record for talking about himself on this one.
If you meet a nice woman on Facebook who wants to chat about sexy secrets of your political friends, say: Hi Chris Moreno!
ReplyDeleteGlad the Voice of Merrill and his blog too shows up here but he does deserve to have his first name spelled right.
ReplyDeleteNow that I finally have his attention, I wonder if he knows how hard it is to get ahold of him. No email on either his blog or his bio page on the station's website.
No main phone number on KMBZ's contacts, only the direct nr to the sales mgr.
Been trying to get him to update his RSS feed link, so I can run his latest posts on my own blog's blog page. But other than calling his busy screener, I haven't figured out how to contact him when he's not busy doing his show.
Which I find pretty entertaining, fer sure.
Let's hope Paul Lavote hires Cris Moreno to run his Senate campaign.
ReplyDeleteIf ever there was marriage both sides would be happy about, Moreno running Paul's campaign would even bring a smile to Mike Sanders' face. I know I would get a chuckle out of it.
Lavote/Moreno 2012 !!!!
Because Mike Sanders was so successfull in 2010 in Jackson County races 11:00....
ReplyDeleteThis section brought out all the winners against Chris Moreno. Even cokehead Charles. We missed you and your brother racist Mike Fletcher.
ReplyDeleteSwearingen and now LaVota will get fucking destroyed if what you say is true 11:35.
ReplyDeleteHilarious, The head of the HDCC who only managed to raise 13K for his seat two years ago, and won by only .5% in a 60% district. Hired someone who has no ability to fundraise, manage effectively, put together and run a field program, or even recruit activists and volunteers.
Matt Thompson has already filed, and I fear the saddest thing ever might happen, what is currently the 31st might have a republican legislator for the first time in forever.
I hope Jay "The Snake" Swearingen figures something out, and fast. Otherwise the house caucus somehow becomes even MORE screwed. Maybe all those wealthy hippies he pumped the cocks of while running the innocence project into the ground will bail him out. What do you want to bet most of his money will come from Kansas' 3rd congressional district?
If I were Moreno I'd be pumped that cow got hired by LaVota and Swearingen, after November it'll be job security for other consultants in the area.
Did I mention redistricting is going on and that 31st seat might become even HARDER to protect?
Jay "The Snake" is a carpet bagging career politician from Texas who met his wife, banging her under a desk while doing finance for her daddy's congressional.
Watch out MDP, HDCC... you've got a bigger tard at the helm of your legislative arm than Kansas City had as a mayor over the last four.
I give the best "advice" in town.
ReplyDelete4:19. Eww. When she finishes your junk would smell like a Big Mac. That's just gross.
ReplyDeleteChris Moreno kicks ass. These corrupt bastards immediately blame him when they are exposed. It is why you can't help but love the guy.
ReplyDeletePaul LeVota is nowhere as cool as Phil LeVota. The guy won an Emmy people. A freaking Emmy.
ReplyDeleteMore people talking about Chris Moreno means that Chris Moreno stays winning. I love that such a young talented guy like that has corrupt politicians' heads exploding. He's better than you just admit it and move on people.
ReplyDeleteI believe I have met Chris Moreno maybe 10 times in 10 years. Couldn't tell you the slightest thing about him. But the fact that this bunch is going after him tells me he is good at what he does.
ReplyDeleteDid Phil LeVota really win an emmy? That is so cool. He is almost as cool as Terry Riley. That is a hard level to reach.
ReplyDeleteLeave Jessica Podohla, Kate Daily , Chris Moreno and Coach Comstock out of this. Just because you finance Republicans or can't deliver a successful campaign isn't their fault.
ReplyDeletePhil LeVota and Terry Riley are gods among men. They breathe success. They don't have to finance Repubs to be liked.
ReplyDeleteWho is cooler Phil LeVota, Terry Riley or Carlos Gomez? Carlos isn't even on the list he's so cool.
ReplyDeleteNick Moreno is sexy.
ReplyDeleteCarlos Gomez is cool. So is Paul LeVota.
ReplyDeleteJonas Hughes puts the double O in Coolio!
ReplyDeletePhil LeVota once lifted an entire SUV with one pinky. Dude is that strong and successful. I saw it happen.
ReplyDelete8 out of 10 white people and dentists recommend Terry Riley. He is that amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe news reported Phil LeVota received an Emmy for his local show. But the truth is he received it because he is the God of cool.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve LeVota is cooler. He choked out that loser Marty Kerr who takes his tiny dog everywhere. Weirdo.
ReplyDeleteLeVota is French for "unlike Steve Bough, I support Democrats"
ReplyDelete8 out of 10 Republicans approve of Stephen Bough's contributions.
