The KC Biz Journal: Polsinelli Shughart chairman: Plaza referendum effort makes office site nearly impossible
Remember that TKC TIPSTERS reported a rather interesting option that involves some behind the scenes flirtation and whispers of economic incentives from Overland Park, Kansas.

natch. only in kc do citizens run legitimate enterprises out of town. their petition effort to have another election over this is not saving the plaza, it's killing the plaza.
ReplyDeleteAnd OP will welcome them wiht open arms.
ReplyDeletesuck it KCMO
Hello JOCO and OVPK. Goodbye e-tax.
ReplyDeleteIf what Posse'nielli means by "maintaining the viability of the Plaza" is more cars, crazy people, traffic, congestion, maybe it's really not all that good of an idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat this really reveals is either a total lack of imagination by the Posse or money is changing hands out of the public view. That and other "schemes" that may not be in the publics best interest in the long run.
as if the Plaza is the only site in KCMO that this law firm could build its building. It's a red herring to suggest that it is either the Plaza OR Overland Park. That smacks of a false negotiation that perhaps the council understood as they voted. Now the citizens can be blamed for "running the law firm out of town."
ReplyDeleteNo doubt the public can and should expect more mind games from Posse'nielli.
ReplyDelete"There's no other alternatives. We can't build over on Troost or God forbid the Paseo or West Side!"
How bout Leawood? Isn't that where most of the employees live anyway?
ReplyDeleteBuild a "Campus for the Kiddies".
In the Beginning there was Barnes and Noble . . that was the end of Plaza right there as we once knew it.
ReplyDeleteOnce that floodgate opened all hell broke loose.
Save the plaza pigs. All of them.
ReplyDelete@2:50. Are you saying that if you wanted to live in Brookside, you would be just as willing to move to 63rd & Troost. I find that hard to bellieve. Does ANYONE on here understand real estate at all!!
ReplyDeleteThose of you who accuse Polsinelli of mid games have too much time on your hands.
what about the animals
ReplyDeleteAnd remind me why they have to move out their tower? Are they too large? OK if so, what about downtown, you know, do something grand and civic and give back to the city buy helping to continue the renaissance of DT KCMO...show you are more than a bunch of slimy development lawyers.
ReplyDeleteWhen opponents objected to the original design of the proposed office building screamed, the Plaza’s owner scaled down the size of the building, moved its location out of the ‘bowl’ of the Plaza, and redesigned its motif to conform to the aesthetics and urban design guidelines of the Plaza.
ReplyDeleteThe proposed building conforms to the Plaza Plan. It has been approved by city planners and traffic engineers, the American Institute of Architects in Kansas City, as well as the City Council.
City planners and engineers, as well as outside engineers say this project will not create
traffic or parking problems.
So, what's this controversy really about? A handful of wealthy condo owners who don't want construction going on across the street? Tough. What about the people who lived across the street when their 12 story condo tower was being built? The new office building is only 7 stories, anyway. This is all about a small group of people lying to the public.
