I don't know about you but I'm happy the legacy of Beth Gottstein lives on . . .

MAYOR-ELECT SLY JAMES NAMES ADDITIONAL STAFF MEMBERS TO THE TEAM

(Kansas City, MO) - Mayor-Elect Sly James announced two more members of his staff, city council aide Jim Giles and public finance analyst Tamela Handie-Mosley. Both Giles and Handie-Mosley are current city hall employees.

Jim Giles will serve in the new administration as a Special Assistant for Intergovernmental Affairs. Giles has lived in Kansas City for 30 years and spent almost ten years in the non-profit sector at the National Kidney Foundation and Jackson County Historical Society. While attending graduate school full-time, Jim served as a research assistant for the Cookingham Institute of Urban Affairs and worked in the office of former Mayor Kay Barnes. For the last four years, he has served as an aide to the 4th District at-Large Councilwoman Beth Gottstein. Long active in local politics, Giles was a founding member of Four Freedoms Democratic Club and currently serves on the executive committee of the Committee for County Progress. Giles has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a Masters in Public Administration, both from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.

Tamela Handie-Mosley has worked in city government for over 10 years, both as an auditor and as a public finance analyst. She will be the Senior Advisor for Operations in the new mayor’s office. Handie-Mosley began her career in the aviation department serving as an auditor where she reviewed contracts between the department and the tenants and analyzed sales transactions to ensure that revenues were accurately reported. Handie-Mosley was promoted to public finance analyst in July 2005 and became certified as a facilitator through the Mid-America Regional Council’s training program later that year. As a public finance analyst, Handie-Mosley worked on a team that organized and executed several multi-million dollar municipal bond issues, served on interview panels, and selection committees associated with the hiring of the City’s financial advisors, prepared the Bond Financial Advisory Committee’s annual report and provided testimony to various City Council committees concerning bond transactions. She has a marketing degree and a Masters in Business Administration, both from Avila University.

"I am really excited by how the staff is coming together and the complementary skills we are bringing to the office,” said Mayor-Elect James. “Jim and Tamela add a lot of city hall knowledge to our staff and I am lucky to have them on the team.”

Both Giles and Handie-Mosley will start their new positions on Monday, May 2nd.

One final staffing announcement is expected early next week, which will include the new communications director.
