Can UMKC Urban Planners Fix The Eastside?!?

I'm sorry, you were saying something about "good intentions" . . . Check it: UMKC Urban Planning and Design students are working with community leaders to help in the construction and rehabilitation of houses left to rot in the eastern part of the Kansas City urban core.

Comments

  1. And who are the "community leaders"? If the usual suspects are involved (maybe Bill Threat, Ken Bacchus, and Terry Riley), the students will mostly get a lesson from the experts on how to make large sums of public money vanish into thin air.
It's a valuable lesson, but probably not the one their professor had in mind.

  2. "Urban planners" have been destroying major cities for years. At least they can't do much damage in the east side.

  3. Since it already looks and smells like a landfill, at least put a weigh station in.

  4. UMKC hipster student douchebags won't save shit. Third-rate school produces third-rate students.

  5. Where did you get your degree from Einstein?

    That's what I thought.

  6. Wow! The community leaders are Marlon Hammons, Paul McCarty, Ozell Lincoln, Michael Duffy, Paul Wenske.

We are looking for investors to help rehab vacant homes.

They aren't douche bag hipsters. They are people that care about their city.

It does not smell like a landfill. It smells like opportunity to help people and give hard working citizens a place to sleep at night.

Go down there. 27th and Prospect. East of Troost. It's a real problem caused by people not giving it the attention and affection it deserves.

You can email or call me. If you'd like to help and contribute in a positive way, we would appreciate it. Talking negatively hurts only your city.

  8. The Emerald City gang about to find out how the east side actually works.
Good luck, Chris, and I hope your plans include some grocery stores and not just art galleries and boutiques!

  10. Look, the whole idea is to put people back into good, clean, affordable homes.

Watch the video. It tells the story.

These are not people associated with Emerald City. These are people from those areas, working towards bettering those areas.

The plans DO in fact include grocery stores. That is a great idea anonymous! Art galleries and boutiques are better than liquor stores and payday loan servicers.

Again, if you would like to contribute constructively please give me an email or a call.

It seems you have some good ideas. Take some responsibility and accountability for your city. You're on the right track!

  11. Chris and the young planners are very inspiring. I'm thrilled to see young, enegetic students getting involved. It's these young people who are going to make a real difference in the forgotten parts of this city. Check out the "urban farming guys" video. They have moved into the blighted 64127 zip code and are trying to rebuild it. Very encouraging.

Give them real credit for good intentions.

But if STUDIES (and MORE studies) were the answer, Kansas City's Eastside would be looking just fabulous by now.

  14. It's not a study. It's the real data of what's going on. It's the proof of the equation.

The community leaders are the people actively involved in their community leading and organizing the right tools and people necessary to handle such a large equation.

And studies are not the answer.
