This morning The Star is posting another E-Tax article with an authoritative headline accompanied by an article that is anything but . . .
A guide to the vote on KC's earnings tax
And here's my complaint . . . There has yet to be an accurate assessment of both sides of this debate.
I'll do my best here in the limited space I have between porn star cleavage photos . . .
E-TAX SUPPORTERS WANT TO KEEP THE CITY HALL MONEY MACHINE ROLLING AND THEY ARE OBLIVIOUS TO ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY!!!
Meanwhile . . .
E-TAX OPPONENTS WANT TO FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE THE WAY CITY HALL WORKS BY DRASTICALLY CUTTING PURSE STRINGS AND THEY ARE OBLIVIOUS TO THE TREMENDOUS DAMAGE THEIR EFFORTS WILL CAUSE OR THE PO'FOLK WHO WILL BECOME EVEN MORE DISENFRANCHISED THANKS TO THEIR EFFORTS!!!
I think I've basically summed up both sides better than anybody else . . . The only thing that I haven't addressed are the d-bags who do nothing but repeat catchphrases all day long in support or objection to something they really don't understand.
Also, it's a shame that this arguement is now being fought along Conservative vs. Liberal lines in the media given that it's really about regionalism or the lack thereof . . . A great many Conservative and big biz owners in KC Proper are also against the repeal of the E-Tax because they'll be burdened with picking up the slack from JoCo interlopers.
Sadly, Kansas City mainstream media is mostly about simplistic representations of local issues and a few politicos and their consultants have turned this into a GOP vs. Dem fight when it's really an epic battle to save Kansas City Proper from suburban parasites, vampires and irresponsible interlopers. The E-Tax fight is not a boring cable new talk show debate . . . It's more like an action sequence from that Van Helsing flick against very bland and cheap suburbanite zombies.
Developing . . .
The E-Tax is a slush fund for political favors (tif, consultants, lawyers, etc)
ReplyDeleteIt does not go for basic services.
Vote NO E-Tax.
Let's vote for fiscal responsibility.
Well, Tee, you've swallowed the PRO TAX scare strategy.
ReplyDeleteIf the city is stuck with drastic cuts, THEY ALONE have the ability to decide how to live with that new reality.
They can punish the poor or punish the wealthy. Put another way, they can cut TIF, and excess city employees where found, and big projects not timed well for today's economics.
There's no guarantee that a cut in city income goes straight to trash collection! Not at all, unless city government would deny citizens services to preserve the goodthing for the wealthy!
Lets see if local government does PAYBACK to contributors, or votes for the ELECTORATE!!!
Etax pays for fire and police you moron. I will vote no on the etax if Terry Riley works for Sly.
ReplyDeleteSurburban Republican workers who work in KCMO can afford to cough up a couple of coins for the city services they use while they are here every day. Their "poor working families" are no poorer than the "working families" in the city that have to pay for picking up after them. What a bunch of spoiled brats. Pay, or like Danny boy sings, don't work here.
ReplyDeleteThe E-tax DOES pay for vital services in this city. If you deny that then you are just a liar.

ReplyDeletePlease, show me exactly where the e-tax goes. You can't, because it's a SLUSH FUND. If you can show me line for line, where that etax money goes... I might believe you. However, even going off the city budget, you can't see where all the waste is because they don't itemize much of anything. So, let me know where the money goes exactly and I might be apt to vote yes. Otherwise, the city can't have anymore of my funds.
it may provide funding for some of those services now. But when it was put in place it was to pay for other services. not police and over staffed fire department.
ReplyDeleteYou know just like I do that you are able to look up to see where your money goes in the city budget. It may not be perfect transparencey but you can get a pretty good nail on the head picture of what you are paying for. Look it up, if you don't then stop your bitching.
ReplyDeleteBe thankful that you have the opportunity to know what you're getting with your hard earned tax dollars.
Funny, you talk about wanting to know what you're getting with your money but aren't concerned at all about who is funding the anti-etax crowd. The public has no idea where their money is coming from or what their agenda is other than "creating jobs"- well we all know that’s not true now don't we. Maybe you should start asking questions about their motives. There are questions like this all over, yet we (the public) have still not received an answer. That is just too shady for me.

ReplyDeleteThe problem with E-tax is that it's unsustainable. Kansas city is an older mature city, as the baby boomers retire we can not replace that segment in the city's E-tax base. Because it's not enough young folks or jobs for them. they rose the budget this month by 40 million dollars. How bout we freeze the budget at 1.26 billion dollars and have a real 2 year conversation about a alternative plan. This idea replaces the E tax for 2 year and is done without cutting any services. If you look a Tulsa this week they started a tax system convo in their council because their current structure won't work in 20 to 30 years. How bout our city hall get proactive, yeah right remember how long we passed the sewers system down the stream and the only reason they did something was that government made us do something about. So will they actually address the tax system problem while there getting a blank check and will not be in office when it becomes a problem.. Vote no April 5th so we can have a real conversation about the problems in the tax system. E-Tax+ No E-Tax on Pensions, interest, capital gains, and dividends = a problem in 15 to 20 years
ReplyDelete"Slush Fund"? There is no denying that the e-tax is our single largest form of revenue. It goes, city services go with it. And KCMO will pick up the bill with higher taxes rather than (here comes the part where the whacko tea partiers call me a Socialist)the surrounding areas pitching in because KCMO has provided them with a JOB. I'm all for tightening up on waste. You don't do that by cutting off your cities primary source of income with no plan to replace it in ANY way. This will result in MORE TAXES for KC residents, and nil for JOCO folks who don't want to live here, because they're boring losers, but they need to come here for their job. Or for the Justin Beiber Concert, or for the KC Symphony or Kaliedescope on their field trips (I see suburban school buses here EVERY DAY) or to eat somewhere besides Applebees. I'm not voting against my own pocket so that people can enjoy my city without paying. No way.
ReplyDeletea "great many conservative and big business owners support the tax" sure but most are either dependent on KCMO for their livelihood or they don't want to piss off their rent seeking clients and customers. In private they know that KCMO government's number one purpose is to feed the parasites. If there is no funds to feed the parasites politicians will lose all interest in city government.

ReplyDeleteWhat is it that is so great that you have to steal money from people who do not live in KC proper? The Zoo? Deanna Rose Farm has more vistors every year. Good places to eat, not if you are beat down and your car is stolen. Boring losers, your shitty city would be more like Detroit than it is now, if not for the stolen funds from JOCO losers. There is NOTHING in KCMO worth the money stolen from smart folks
Nobody's stealing from JOCO. KCMO obviously had something to offer you. Your job. And you get to that job on our roads. Pay up, shut up. You can't vote on it anyway. Does that bother you? Then get another job. In JOCO, where nobody steals anything or "beats anyone down" and the whole world is the good ship lollypop. It sounds like you're risking life and limb to get to your gainful employment in our shitcovered nightmare hell city. If I were you, I would reevaluate my career options. One more job for a KC resident.
ReplyDeletePeople like you are complaining about coming into the city and getting "beat down and their car stolen" ?!?! Seriously? Without a core city do you even think there would be the nice KC suburbs that there are now to live in?! NOOO because no one wants to locate around a dying/ dead city. I can understand not wanting to pay more in taxes but without KC you wouldn't be able to enjoy concerts at Sprint Center, or wherever you may go, have a nice evening on the Plaza, have a nice job that pays for your JOCO house, see the symphony, see the Chiefs and Royals play (because even though they aren't great, let’s face it you're going to go anyway!). There are many many things in this city that are great and since you sound like you hate it so much and are trying to destroy it by taking away from OUR General Fund and raise OUR taxes then just leave! GO.. Take your nasty attitude and go try to ruin some other great city. Leave ours alone.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Where do we live?? Compton??? KCPL, downtown restaurants and hotels must sustain themselves from money that grows on trees because according to you, no one comes here!!!! KCMO has a lot of attractions that are used by MANY PEOPLE from both KS and MO!!!! I have some advice for you - DONT COME HERE! Just like I avoid going to KS at all costs. If you do not want to live in this "dead" city, then go somewhere else!
ReplyDeleteactually Veronica stop lying to you self didn't your forget that P&L is bleeding money that's why your e-tax money is keep it a float. Still waiting for the B-Ball team or hockey team they said would be in the sprint center. Wake up you can see lies when you see it now there scaring you to keep the E-tax we losted Google to KCK you have to be kidding me we need to do something different!!!
ReplyDeleteSo let me get this straight - the e-tax opponents are complaining that the e-tax is such a BIG DEAL that we drive business away but its not a big deal because it is not a lot of money and we can come up with the funds easily to make up for it???? QUITE A CONTRADICTION!!
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how much e-tax opponents twist the truth. In reference to Google, KCMO doesn't have Star Bonds like Kansas does and there is no way that a city, Kansas City MO, can compete with an entire state.
