The most promising thing I've heard about 6th District At-large Council Candidate Tracy Ward's campaign strategy is that she doesn't have one.
AT THIS POINT IN THE CAMPAIGN WHAT'S AMAZING ABOUT TRACY WARD IS THAT SHE'S ONE OF VERY FEW CANDIDATES WHO ISN'T BACKED UP BY A PERSONAL FORTUNE OR SPECIAL INTERESTS!!!
This is important because Special Interests have run Kansas City politicos for most of this town's modern history which is why so much talk of hope, change or a City That Works has really been nothing more than a marketing tactic.
So, instead of big money for billboards, an army of paid staffers or a corporate phone bank . . . Tracy is just trying to talk to as many people as possible about her ideas for Kansas City.
The photo featured above was taken at Ugly Joe's in South KC where Tracy took a few minutes to remind me about her grassroots strategy while quite a few people interrupted and and expressed their support. It's really an interesting vibe . . . Tracy is kind of an approachable Kansas City political rock star in the sense that people seem to wonder if she's real.
She is.
Even better, Tracy Ward and her commitment to City Council accountability and transparency are backed up by her ongoing refusal to align herself with so many special interests who have now sought her out (seriously) and her continued effort to keep her campaign a grassroots endeavor.
