TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! MAYOR ELECT SLY JAMES AND HIS SMALL TRANSITION TEAM DISAPPOINT!!!
We were all expecting big things from Sly James, we thought that he would reveal sweeping change and Kansas City was quivering with anticipation.
Now, not so much.
Why?
KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS HAVE DISCOVERED SOME MORE NAMES FROM THE SLY JAMES TRANSITION TEAM AND THEY AREN'T ANYTHING AT ALL WHAT WAS EXPECTED!!! IN FACT, IT'S KIND OF A LETDOWN!!!
Here we go . . .
FORMER COUNCIL DUDE TERRY RILEY IS REPORTEDLY ON THE SLY JAMES TRANSITION TEAM!!!
I'm sure TKC Readers have their own reactions . . . But let's look at what one KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTER has to say . . .
"This is disappointing, Terry is out for Terry and he doesn't bring anything to the table. I'm troubled by this pick because it makes everyone wonder who does Sly James Listen to . . .
To be fair, Terry Riley was a Sly James supporter from early on also, Mr. Riley has experience as a member of Gov. Jay Nixon's transition team as well as his tenure as a School Board Member And City Council Dude . . . Additionally, The Eastside and 5th District vote deserves most of the credit for pushing the Mayor-elect over the top. However, it's also fair to note that Terry has a history and along with some fans, he has many detractors.
Also on transition team . . .
Peter deSilva - Obviously he's a local power player but he is also described as a "Chamber Flunkie" and his impressive resume reveals that he doesn't have much in common with most people in Kansas City. His thinking and so-called "civic activity" have always reflected as much.
Charles Garney - This Northland Construction dude and TIF king doesn't inspire feelings of hope or change with anybody. Obviously, a powerful guy but not somebody I would count on to act on Kansas City's interests above all . . .
Remember that the transition team is important because they play a major role in picking new members for Kansas City Boards and Commissions.
So . . . Mayor-elect Sly James once again seems to be playing it safe and old school. He claimed he would surround himself with smart people on whom he can rely but these faces, along with folks like Carol Grimaldi who we've already discussed, are people Kansas City already knows. Heck, I was kinda disappointed to learn that I missed my shot on this transition team now that the web page application on the Sly James site is now blank.
Another TKC TIPSTER tells us this:
THE SLY JAMES TRANSITION TEAM IS COMPRISED COMPLETELY OF FOLKS WHO ARE KNOWN FOR ALWAYS ACTING IN THEIR OWN SELF-INTEREST!!!
Amid this global recession, that's a fair and accurate assessment of most people in Kansas City politics but ESPECIALLY the folks on this transition team. Sadly, for Kansas City residents waiting for some sweeping change from Mayor-elect Sly James . . . They probably shouldn't hold their breath at this point.
DEVELOPING . . .
Fail.
ReplyDeleteTransition "team" doesn't mean that much. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley? Are you kidding me?
ReplyDeleteIt's temporary. Take a deep breath.
ReplyDeleteIf Garney is your attempt at Northland representation, you're more clueless than I thought. Plus, he was a Burke supporter. Maybe Sly ran into him on his way to the airport.
ReplyDeleteLooks like we are transitioning back to the pre-Funk days of "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" form of City Government. Just remember, Garney's Briarcliff was the first TIF project and it is still getting breaks. Like so many TIF projects, he could have developed it with his own cash but decided to apply for corporate welfare instead. Of course, Riley does not stand in the way of people who want to screw the minority community.
ReplyDeleteWell, sure it's been a whole week. Why isn't the city all fixed and stuff? Clearly James has failed. Start the recall petition.
ReplyDeleteIf Terry is going to be with Sly then I will sign.
ReplyDeleteTony, you gotta stop letting Deb Hermann influence your opinion of Riley. You're starting to seem like her butt-boy.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly what I expected, you people won't even let the man get into office before ypu start whining about him not doing anything.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley is just another nigger, now finding a job with a nigger mayor and his white wife. You know, the smudge sticks are already starting to sound better......
ReplyDeleteRiley? Really? This is not good.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to vote YES on the E-Tax so we can support..... Charles Garney TIF king doesn't inspire feelings of hope or change with anybody.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley is a joke. This is change i dont think so. Sorry i voted for him. Just like the others the first move is to put a hack on the team.
ReplyDeleteDamn I am really sorry I voted for James, I thought he was going to work to change things at city hall, the same old bs. Just look what Riley did to the Citadel project, just look at the 5th district period. Start the recall this is bs.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, the predictable, usual suspects. This is why city government never changes. Because the players don't.
ReplyDeleteJust remember tony, even as you look at presidents, the first 120 days won't generate much. The guy just got off a campaign. He's just starting a new job. It takes a while. For presidents and everyone else. Don't expect great things the first year. Expect them the FOLLOWING year.
Course I know you haven't spend your whole life in your mom's basement, so you should know this. Don't distract him playing Rush Limbaugh, the spoiler!
I caught Limbaugh today. Here we are, with 3 wars, all this shit going on, conservatives in charge of the house, and all Limbaugh talked about was Obama. He's taking the conservative movement in this country over the cliff with his misplaced focus.
Don't do the same thing, Tee. We need solutions, not criticism for its own sake!
Say what you like about Terry Riley but unlike those Freedom Inc. lazybones, he actually gets things done.
ReplyDeleteI hate to agree with the crowd here T. But you need to give Sly a chance. I've seen worse than this team and remember that at times you seems to like Terry's work.
ReplyDeleteDon't be so easily influenced. Sly could be a great Mayor if Kansas City gives him a chance.
I would put Terry Riley on my team any day of the week. NOBODY knows the urban core and has the connections nationwide to get stuff done for the urban core better than him. Great move. This just made this administration solid.
ReplyDeleteAnyone criticizing this move lives west of troost and has no real interest in the urban core. Good choice Sly.
ReplyDeleteRiley delivers. Period end of story. Excellent decision.
ReplyDeleteRiley is a rat who will line his pockets like he always does, terrible move Sly. Your foundation is already cracked
ReplyDeleteIf he delivers why isnt he a County Legislator Duh
ReplyDeleteI'd have to ask 4:03pm where all the results of Riley's national connections and knowledge of the urban core can be found on the east side? I spend quite a bit of time east of Troost and most residents there will tell you their neighborhoods have gotten worse and worse for years.
ReplyDeleteOf course, for a few people like the folks involved in Citadel, things have gotten a whole lot better. I guess that's what you mean.
Terry Riley is a total scumbag , what a piss poor pick .
ReplyDeleteTerry riley is Slime another Goofball who could'nt get a real job and leeches off the city .
ReplyDeleteSly needs a covey of savvy operatives like Riley to hold off the Ford-Circo-Johnson triad and Sly just might be the guy to keep Terry in his cage. A lot of people will be sacred shitless to hear TR might be involved because they know what a great interference runner he could be in the early days of an administration. All the negative on Riley is old news....this is a new day.
ReplyDeleteGarney would also be a good choice from up North. He likes the game and could care less about past alliances. He'll be in it for the future and truly appreciates the city. He also doesn't care a bit about the next cycle, he'll either not be around or his $ will keep him in the game regardless.
Transition to what? Politics as usual, looks like.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the earliest we can start a recall?
Terry Riley knows KC politics better than anyone. He has the influence needed for Sly to succeed. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteTerry riley? Really?! Except for a few other names, sounds like the same old broken record. Wish I hadn't voted for sly. Hoping Kc was headed in a positive direction with fresh leadership. Not to be.
ReplyDeleteI think Terry Riley is the only one commenting on here that thinks Riley is a good choice. Sorry Sly, you lost me with this pick. You will have to work twice as hard as I expected you to in order to overcome this disaster.
ReplyDeleteGarney is a lousy choice for the Northland. There are so many other better choices, why didn't Sly pick someone who is actually involved in Northland affairs.
ReplyDeleteVery disappointing move from our mayor-elect.
For 4:03... if Riley had any national connections, he'd have a job already. Riley is political poison ivy and he causes a very bad rash. No one wants to catch that.
ReplyDeleteAs for Terry knowing the urban core and getting things done, can you all say together, "CITADEL"???
Riley couldn't "deliver" a pizza, because he's so afraid his car will get repo'd, he can't drive it out of the City Hall garage!
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley Sucks! What the Hell is wrong with Sly?!
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley is a fantastic choice. He understands how to navigate political waters with the best of them. Sly needs this. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley could have been Mayor. Anybody bashing him has little understanding of politics. Sly James made a great pick adding him.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley. I like that man.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley is by far the best choice on this team. Good pick Mr. James!
ReplyDeleteSly James will be an amazing Mayor. His inexperience is a weakness so adding someone like Terry Riley is a strong addition for Mr. James. City Hall is cut throat and Terry knows how to navigate those waters.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley! I like it!
ReplyDeleteThis is a business savvy team. Adding Judy Morgan and Terry Riley are both good choices to navigate political waters.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley is a man of the people, both Black and Irish. We like it!
ReplyDeleteSly James comes out of the gates strong. All excellent choices Mr. James.
ReplyDeleteEver wonder who owns the giant brick mansion in Briarcliff overlooking downtown Kansas City? That would be Charles Garney.
ReplyDeleteIt's official without Terry Riley the urban core would have been played son and Kansas City would've once again been sold to Ward Parkway!!! It's time to build up the urban core!
ReplyDeleteRiley is so full of himself and it's all "BS"
ReplyDeleteAll the above comments supporting Riley is Riley himself.
"Could have been Mayor" now that make me laugh.
"Knows the 5th District" What did he do for his 5th district? Nothing, but destroy it.
Why Sly surround himself with a THUG like this? FBI investigation still going on .....
All Terry wants to do is line his pocket with his line of BS.
FUNK WINS!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Riley told you a bull shit line that he was the "one" responsible for getting you elected. No sir - you alone got yourself elected, we elected you on the trust that you would turn our city around. Putting Riley on your transition team will keep us in a state of limbo.
ReplyDeletePlease sir - be responsible for your actions as promised; remove Riley from your advance team of advisors.
This is a great disappointment from the get go.
Wow Terry & company was really busy playing. Postings 8:51, 9:43, 9:45, 9:46, 9:47, 9:48, 9:50, 9:50, 9:52, 9:53 just a figment of Terry's own demented imagination.
ReplyDeleteYes sir, it is a new day but only in your hallucinated panicky state of mind.
