A GROUP OF PROMINENT KANSAS CITY AFRICAN-AMERICAN MINISTERS SUPPORT MIKE BURKE!!!

Again, the "fun" part of all this isn't the race between the two candidates but but the struggle between different factions to see who can more accurately position themselves as a "power broker" in a race that just might be starting to warm up.

The real question in this presser is . . . Who has more influence in the African-American voting bloc? Freedom, Inc.? The Ministers? Or The Black Agenda Group???

We'll see . . .

Prominent Kansas City Ministers Envelop Burke With Support

(Kansas City, MO) – A group of respected and influential ministers in Kansas City are giving their support to Mike Burke in the general election for mayor.

The ministers share Burke’s concern that neighborhoods have been neglected by city hall for too long.

Burke has proposed ideas for revitalizing neighborhoods, creating jobs and reducing crime. Those ministers include:

• Dr. Rev. Wallace Hartsfield II, Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church
• Pastor Ron Lindsay, Concord Fortress of Hope Church
• Bishop Mark Tolbert, Victorious Life Church
• Pastor John Modest Miles, Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church
• Rev. Dr. L Henderson Bell, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
• Bishop Larry Aiken, Memorial Missionary Baptist Church
• Pastor George Hayes, Damascus Road – Shield of Faith Church
• Bishop Dan Chavis, Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ
• Bishop L.F. Thuston, Boone Tabernacle COGIC
• Pastor Marvin Jackson, El Shaddai International Ministries

“Mike Burke is the only mayoral candidate that backs up his words of inclusiveness with real actions,” said Rev. Dr. Wallace Hartsfield II of the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. “We feel that he is truly committed to working with our communities, fighting to have our voices heard and represented in city government.”

Bishop Mark Tolbert agreed with Hartsfield. “I was happy to support Mike in the primary election and we are all so very fortunate he has moved on to the general,” Tolbert said. “Mike has the know-how in city government, the business community and neighborhoods. You can bet he will not ignore our part of the city or its people.”

“Mike, with his record of community involvement and neighborhood activism, is just who we need as mayor,” said Pastor Ron Lindsay. “We strongly encourage a vote for Mike Burke on March 22.”

Burke said the support of the ministers gave him a boost in the primary and is very grateful to have their backing again.

“These ministers are true leaders in their parts of Kansas City,” Burke said. “They know the people, they know the problems and they are widely respected. I am honored to have their support and look forward to working with them as mayor.”

In addition to this recent endorsement, Mike has earned the support of three former mayors – Kay Barnes, Richard Berkley and Charles Wheeler – four prominent leaders in the Missouri House of Representatives, including Ryan Silvey (R), Mike Talboy (D), Jason Holsman (D) and John Rizzo (D), prominent business leader, James B. Nutter, as well as the endorsement of the Citizens Association, Forward Kansas City, KC BizPAC, The Kansas City Downtown Council Political Action Committee, HOJE, the Carpenters District Council and the Pipe fitters LU #533.

The general election will be held Tuesday, March 22.

  1. If a bunch of white ministers came out for Burke, TKC would have had a fit and called for their churches' tax exempt status to be revoked.

  3. Interesting how these black ministers will stand before their black congregants and tell them to vote for a white guy over a just as equally qualified black guy. The primary netted Burke 1,600 black votes compared to James who had no black ministers and over 5,000 votes. Who are he people paying attention too.

  5. Good point 4:56 but did they research Burke's community involvement? It is all in the Northland! He did not knw hi way around the hood until he hired Jason Parson. Thank him for the Power and Light District the Developmnt lawyer who brought Cordish in. The same group Tolbert protested against.

  6. He gave to Cleaver's campaign also

  7. 4:59 - did you research his involvement in the northland? Nonexistent. I'm a northlander voting for James.

  8. That should net Burke 3, maybe 4 votes.

  9. Imagine how pissed we'd be if Catholic priests told people how to vote, or if any other minister(s) was/were so outspoken. I understand this from a historical perspective, but let's keep religion and governemnt separate.

  10. Burke wins.

  11. Speaking of "envelopes", how much was in it? These guys don't do anything for free!

  12. There is an educated constituency that won't listen to anyone. In 2011, congregations don't necessarily listen to their pastors or others. The voters are more sophisticated than one might think. Some are turned off because of the divisiveness within the community. Stay in the pulpit and save souls!

  13. I have always lived in the Northland and i keep hearing that Mike Burke has our support but what has Mike done for the Nortland, can anyone tell me one specific thing?

  14. "Leaders in their parts of the City". How patronizing of you Mike Burke.

  15. Who ARE these people?! Burke didn't even get Hartsfeld Sr.

  16. Wow, who is funding this Burke payoff? The same special interest that he has made millions of dollars off of?

Burke is going to sell this city a downtown hotel, power and light or some other crap that won't do us one bit of good.

Vote for Sly, he is prodevelopment but not a complete sell out.

  17. KCTV 5 announced tonight that Cordish needs an $11 Million subsidy from taxpayers. The fourth year since the P&L District opened who's paying rent and why is the taxpayers subsidizing P&L and what is the city demanding in return for subsidizes. I am voting for Sly James he's smart and articulate. I am afraid Mike Burke will continue lining the pockets of Cordish.

  18. Whether it's cordish or out of touch black preachers, voters should follow the money. At the end of the day these men of the cloth believe Burke will line their pockets. These preachers will find out the same thing that Freedom found out in the Primary: The Black Community is no longer for sale. Burke is pimping these guys but their congregations won't be fooled. Kansas Citians are tired of the pay to play game. I'm Black and I am proud to vote for the best candidate for Mayor, Sly James. Burke is a
    closet Republican anyway.

  19. I'm trying to remember when was the last time Burke was in the Black community before he decided to run for mayor. I can't remember because he wasn't. I wonder if these black pastors know Burke kicked Airick West off PIAC because he didn't want to approve Burke's budget that would leave predominately Black districts with significant shortfalls in their allocation years. Were the checks big enough to make then overlook a ten year practice?

  20. Tolbert in bed with Burke smells fishy. Run Forest Run.

  21. Looks like Burke has a lot of walking around money. Divide and conquer brothers and sisters.

  22. What is the Concerned Clergy concerned about? 10 prominent black ministers are endorsing a white politician for mayor. What deal they make with him? It looks like the Lord's supper on this picture! Did they negotiate something for the black community? Why haven't they announced the deal to us? Are they willing to hold him accountable? Why should we vote for him because of their endorsement? How much did he pay them or what did he promise? Did we trade Freedom Inc for their pulpits?
