Cyclists And Pedestrians Seem To Love Kansas City's E-Tax . . .

Eric over at KCBike.Info does a great job explaining the E-Tax to his beloved special interest . . . And people who actually walk on local streets.

Check it:

What the earnings tax means for bicycling and walking

Read between the lines and you'll see that it makes sense for the most active group of locals to seemingly side with the E-Tax . . . Two money quotes: "Cities without earnings taxes generally have much higher property taxes and sales taxes, as well as higher fees on trash collection, utility bills, etc." And the money line for folks who have bike/ped concerns on their mind first and foremost: "Would that 1% tax cut be worth paying a 13% sales tax? Would it be worth traveling to the suburbs to shop when stores in the city limits relocate or close?"

For the most part I find myself agreeing with this points which troubles me because nobody wants to see TKC wearing biker shorts.

  1. Do you seriously not walk anywhere? I can't believe that you live within walking distance of so many restaurants and so much entertainment yet you don't walk? You wouldn't be such a fat ass if you did.

  4. How bout a Renters Tax?

Since they don't have to pay property taxes, maintenance costs, repair costs, and upgrade and replacement costs on their living spaces.

  5. If the E tax is repealed, rest assured that the city fathers (and muthas) will come up with new ways to get someone else to pay for the upkeep of KCMO.

  7. Good luck on a residential property tax increase our homes value jumped from $60,000 in 2004 to $115,000 in 2005. In one year!

    Remember the Real Estate Bubble?

The real question is now that the house is back to being worth what it was in 2004, if even that, only it won't even sell now how come we are still paying the Bubble Tax Evaluation?

Besides the city figures no one will challenge it.

  8. So if the E-Tax gets renewed with a Yes for the next five years does that mean all the freeloaders will leave KC MO?

That might be a good thing!

  9. I want to see proof that cities without earnings tax have higher taxes. It's been shown time and time again that the cities who don't have an earnings tax have much better growth and more business growth as well. Where do these libs get their economic play words from, Paul Krugman??

  10. What.....EGAD'S....those living in KCMO would have to pay their own way, what a travesty, what a imposition on the very people who use the city services the most, and have chosen to live there. This smacks of America, of standing on your own and making your own way, seems those in Kansas City can't get out of Johnson County's basement to live on their own, sorry Tony it's the truth, such a shame having to pay ones own way......what is the world coming to?

  13. Those Jo Co Folks creating that rush hour traffic jam everyday in and out of downtown KC MO. And the Jo Co Folks turning Midtown traffic into a nightmare demolition derby.

    They love it don't they?

  14. When exactly is KCMO supposed to annex Johnson County?

  15. 1:22: Renters pay property taxes, maintenance costs, repair costs, and upgrade and replacement costs on their living spaces in their rent.

Were you under the impression landlords pay these things out of the goodness of their hearts?

2:32 I think the annexation will go the other way.
