Collecting my thoughts from the first day of this residency fight in the 3rd District.
There's a lot of stuff to consider.

First of all, Michael Fletcher's lawyer is simply top notch and Incumbent Council Lady Sharon Sanders Brooks is one of the best hostile witnesses in all of Kansas City.
She didn't give him much but he was able to have her read documents which noted Mr. Fletcher's ongoing efforts to regain his Missouri Fed Court License.
Additionally, her motive to challenge Mr. Fletcher's residency was juxtaposed with her lack of interest into the residency status of 3rd District Council Candidate Jermaine Reed.
Still, Council Lady Sanders Brooks simply wasn't going to get backed into a corner and it was certainly a tense Cross-X.
Former 3rd District Council Lady Saundra McFadden Weaver said, "If her testimony today was any indication of her overall attitude about working in the Democratic process, then it's obvious why we haven't accomplished much in the 3rd District during her term."

I was particularly interested to see Attorney Clinton Adams Jr. in action. He was able to defeat a motion that linked him in an attorney/client privilege conflict with Mr. Fletcher. In the end the judge seemed to deny the motion because there was NO FEE exchanged along with the mainly political reputation and many civic involvements of Mr. Adams.
With Kansas City attorneys looking on and even more high priced lawyers in the room. Adams showed that he's no slouch. Nevertheless, Adams exited the courtroom and the elevator to cries of "Judas" and "Traitor."

Finally, Mr. Fletcher and his legal team demonstrated exactly why they are among the elite in Kansas City. The motion to dismiss Mr. Adams as legal counsel was brilliant because it gave them an opportunity to riff on their history and relationship with the Kansas City Community Activist. Even though the motion was defeated we got to hear that Clinton didn't really like Council Lady Brooks and that he was taking meetings in his sweatpants. Putting the opposition lawyer on the stand was simply a very tactical face-slap.
Then, we were able to hear about struggle between 3rd District Council Candidate Michael Fletcher and the police. We heard about threats on his family and advice from A NATIONALLY PROMINENT MINISTER that Mr. Fletcher should simply get his family out of harms way.
These are powerful facts and speak to a great many people in the 3rd District. It also sets him apart from the other contenders in this race.
The trial isn't over yet . . . They meet again tomorrow. But a rather gracious and awesome reporter reminded me that courts are closed on Monday. So do the math IF there is an appeal on this one . . .
What's tragic to TKC is that a discussion regarding residency in the 3rd District is taking the forefront when there are so many other important issues to address.
Developing . . .

ReplyDeleteIf the Third votes for SSB, they deserve what they get.
ReplyDeleteWow! Adams, Sanders Brooks, and now McFadden Weaver, all in the same scrum! And if the folks in the Third District wanted to get a good look at the kind of duds who have allowed their neighborhoods to get to where they have, they could see them all together.
ReplyDeleteThe last gasp of the poor old grifters about to be overtaken by the future.
Not if Jermaine lives out of the district too.
ReplyDeleteThird District.
ReplyDeleteSandra McFadden Weaver.
Mcfadden Weaver for Third District...Lee's Summit.
ReplyDeletePerfect example that the circus comes to town more than once a year.
ReplyDeleteThe Fletcher supporters that showed up in the courtroom included Sandra McFadden Weaver, Carol Coe, James Tindall, Aasim Bahayadeen and Craig Bland.
ReplyDeleteThat was a roll call of the Who's Who in Kansas City Black Politico Graft and Corruption. And the award goes to???
9:44: Your comment is very offensive. Carol Coe CLEARLY belongs in a class all to herself. The others are just wanna-bes, compared to Coe's long, consistent, and truly remarkable history of graft and corruption.
ReplyDeleteThe man is out to get me! That's what this is! The man wants to prove that I live in both California and Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteFletcher should have never attacked Pat Gray in The Pitch
ReplyDeletePat Grey = Finished.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the struggle between Fletcher and the police?
ReplyDeletePeople say they want change, someone that is not afraid to challenge ALL institutions and people that divert us, and distract the citizens and society from making change, DON'T WANT THE MIKE FLETCHER'S OF THE WORLD IN POSITION TO SHINE THE LIGHT ON THEIR INEPT AND PATRONIZING MOVES. Moves that have put this city in the dark. WHAT'S UP KANSAS CITY?
ReplyDeleteDON'T MISS THIS CHANCE FOR REAL CHANGE, MIKE FLECTHER IS CAPABLE, WILLING AND ABLE. ARE YOU?
Holy shit that malibu mike website is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWas McFadden Weaver a character witness? Ahahahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteSSB tries to win election without a vote. That's a real public servant right there.
ReplyDeleteThe issue you're blowing over Tony is that voters in the 3rd don't want Sharon back. The courtroom stuff while legal just pisses folks in the 3rd off cause its another case of the system fucking them.
