TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! JACKSON COUNTY LEGISLATOR THERESA GARZA RUIZ ANSWERS COMPLAINTS OF TKC COMMENTERS WITH AFFIDAVIT!!!

Damn, never before has it been so obvious that some of the more INTELLIGENT AND INSIGHTFUL COMMENTERS ON TKC HAVE THE ABILITY TO HOLD LOCAL POLITICOS ACCOUNTABLE!!!

While the personal insults and pervy comments are rarely funny, something significant happened today with regard to questions raised by TKC commenters:

JACKSON COUNTY LEGISLATOR THERESA GARZA RUIZ ANSWERS CRITICS FORM THE TKC COMMENTS REGARDING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HER VOTES ON FUNDING AND HER HUSBAND'S JOB!!!

Check the presser Garaz Ruiz:

In the interest of full disclosure, I would like to share an affidavit I filed with the Jackson County Clerk's Office in order to maintain transparency between my role as Legislator and my husband's new position at Guadalupe Center, Inc.

I would also like to inform you that the Legislature will hold a Public Hearing regarding tax levies on Tuesday, January 17, 2011 at 2:30 pm in the Downtown Jackson County Courthouse.

If you have any questions on either of these issues please contact me.

Sincerely,

Theresa Garza Ruiz
Jackson County Legislator
1st District At-large

Here's the money quote from the affidavit:

"Due to a possible conflict of interest between my role as a member of the County Legislature and my husband's employment by an agency that contracts with the County, at the budget hearing on January 5, 2011, I recused myself on the record from consideration of Guadalupe Center's request for funding in the 2011 County budget.

Furthermore, I will not participate in any discussion, debate, deliberation, or any other decision-making process with regard to possible County funding of this agency from this point forward. As long as my husband is employed at GCI and I remain an elected official of Jackson County, I will recuse myself from consideration of any ordinance and/or resolution relating to funding requests from GCI. This disclosure is made pursuant to section 908(a) of the Jackson County Code."

It's a pretty forthright statement and I know there are background moves on this point of contention that haven't been reported by any other media outlet but what impresses me most is that TKC COMMENTERS are getting their questions answered and INTELLIGENT criticism is being taken seriously on this blog before it is noted on any other news outlet.

  1. Thank you, Teresa, for making this info public. I expect nothing less than your usual openness.

  2. oops. Got caught.

  3. Too bad Sessions, Runnion, Burke and the entire EDC aren't believers in this type of transparency. It takes a wise Latina to show us the way.

  4. Lol. She was ordered to do this in a legal opinion. This wasn't her choice. BTW, the legal opinion also points out that her husband can't get paid with money she votes on so either she has to resign or he has to quit. Looks like another poli trying to cash in. Lol.

  6. So why can Waits practice in JaCo with his bff Kanatzer giving him deals and he doesn't recuse himself since he votes on the Prosecutor budget? Just sayin.

  7. Or contracts for telecommunications deals with a firm represented by a legislator(Burnett). I applaud Ruiz for her transparency.

  8. Grandstanding, special pleading. Ho hum.

  9. Waits and Kanatzar issue is also real, as well as this one was. The spouse issue is not good, but it was stopped early. Kudos. Looks like the county may be actually starting to clean its act up some. Color me impressed for once.

  10. Her husband still gets the money. just telling us that she is not voting is a real hat trick. Theresa it passed with 8 votes so your hands are not clean.

Tony, you need to post the legal opinion letter from the County Counselor that forced Garza-Ruiz to try this angle to keep the tax money flowing to her hubby's employer.

It is my understanding that does not have the option to recuse herself and save the expenditure. It is my understanding that no County Legislator may vote to fund the employer of another County Legislator or close family member.

I always thought that Theresa was just trying to replace Rizzo Corruption with Garza-Ruiz Corruption. I think this game proves that point.

I think we are seeing a corner turned. KEEP GOING! Apply those new ethics rules!

  12. The woman was not forthright. She was smacked down by Justice in the form of a legal opinion.

  13. Kanatzar doesn't give Waits any "deals" bitch.

  14. Since there are apparently only about 30 people in all of Jackson County who ever run for office, of course there'll be some conflicts from time to time, with spouses, and familiy members, and all the rest. But that's why they get involved in politics, so they can employ family and friends and use your money to support the whole family.
    Just pay up!

  15. I think Theresa's mom works at a facility that is subsidized by public funds as well.

  16. It IS pathetic that TGR tried to get in front of being caught like this by claiming to have initiated the investigation and offering to recuse herself when that means nothing in this situation.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Waits representing people in Jackson County Courts is a conflict. Someone please do something about it

    ReplyDelete
  18. TGR hold your head up high and don't listen to people who have no integrity try to pull you down. I doubt that anybody who works for a charity gets big bucks. Your husband is to be complimented for taking a job where he can and will do a lot of good, but probably not make a lot of money.

    ReplyDelete
  19. TGR is laundering almost 100K a year in tax money in the form of Genaro's salary from a county supported entity.

You know Tom Delay is going to jail for three years for money laundering.

  20. Theresa is getting greedy and corrupt new term and 4 years before another election why not take the money. It's what she does as a lobbyist. Take the money.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Theresa and Genaro have always been using the system both with pad jobs it's just they got caught this time.

  22. Wait. A former judge who known for his corruption who has a wife receiving a salary and county pension writes an opinion again invested interests?

Why just Garza-Ruiz? Where is the opinion on Burnett's contracts? Tarwater's car title business? Rizzo's family and prostitute's family receiving pensions and contracts. Arbanas' golf course? Tindall's conflicts of interest? The Executive whole staff have a conflict of interest? And what about Nixon's own conflicts of interest.

Nixon is corrupt. Someone throw that pig in jail.
