THE TKC CHRISTMASTIME EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY 4TH DISTRICT AT-LARGE CANDIDATE JIM GLOVER BOUNCES BACK FROM ADVERSITY TO RUN FOR CITY COUNCIL AGAIN!!!
Kansas City's political scene has become a vitriolic cauldron of egotists supported by various special interest groups. Nevertheless, today there's a story of hope and perseverance that I want to highlight as we approach Christmas.
Jim Glover has never lost a City Council election. He has a reputation for persistence and hard work that has resulted in even his current opposition calling the development at Linwood and Main "The Glover Plan" until a few days ago.
Still, in a crowded field Glover lost his run for Mayor.
Around a year ago Glover lost his wife to cancer and was left with 5 children immediately following the tragedy.
While most folks would still be dealing with grief Glover has instead recommitted himself to improving Kansas City. "I love this City," Glover said during a recent conversation with TKC. "I could have left and nobody would have blamed me. But living on Harrison, being able to hear gunshots at night and police helicopters swirling overhead. I am called to do whatever I can to help that situation."
Glover's simple answer to Kansas City's dilemma with homicide and violence: "Jobs," he says bluntly.
"If you work to provide people with jobs and economic opportunity then that will steer entire communities away from violence and all of the other societal ills," Glover said.
It was this kind of talk along with a history of Kansas City connections that won Glover the Citizens Association endorsement.
Glover now finds himself with a formidable contender in John Crawford who has racked up a number of important endorsements as well.
At the moment, Glover's best hope of distinguishing himself is to remind Kansas City voters of his long history of perseverance in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. At the CA screenings Glover described a 15 minute meeting with corporate officials at Home Depot who were only using the appointment as a courtesy to tell Kansas City that they weren't interested in a Midtown partnership. According to the tale, that meeting lasted hours and ultimately ended with an agreement and the business that stands there today. Another TKC TIPSTER describes Glover bothering Mayor Cleaver incessantly during his stint on the Council until he earned at least some concession.
With Joe Serviss now out of the 4th District At-Large race, Glover's odds improve and even the harshest critics of a City Council "retread" will stipulate that his persistence is legendary.
I don't know if Jim Glover is going to be the next Councilman From the 4th District At-Large but what I'm sure of that his commitment to Kansas City and his determination should inspire even the most skeptical denizens of the local political scene.
How are we going to create work for people if everyone's outsourcing to India?
ReplyDeleteMove to India. Moron.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plot for a TV series.
ReplyDeleteNeither Glover nor any other elected officials are going to create jobs. The private sector creates jobs, and mostly inthose areas where there are good public services, which pretty muchleaves out KCMO.
ReplyDeleteThere's much more dysfunction in the lives of some of the people on the east side and just having a "job" may help, but certainly doesn't solve the larger problem. And in fact, lots of the young thugs have jobs; they're bosses, workers, enforcers, salesmen, and accountants. It's just that their industry involves drugs, mayhem, and murder.
Glover has never had any kind of specific proposal about public safety and doesn't even seem particularly interested.
Vote for John Crawford.
You know your talking to Dell Customer Service in India when you ask the person what their name is . . and they reply with John Wayne or Mr. Clinton.
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:16 Crawford is an arrogant ass. Oh, sorry John I did not know that was you writing.
ReplyDeleteCrawford is a good sharp man. Glover is a nice guy, most of the time, but I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to him drone on. Glover's time has come and gone. He's after the pension at this point.
ReplyDeleteVote Crawford!
ReplyDeleteThat flag looks like it is coming out of his butt. Ewwww. But since that's where all of his ideas come from, no big surprise there.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lie about private sector creating jobs. Government creates jobs. They tax us and then hire contractors to do the work.
ReplyDeleteThat's why we have bridges to nowhere. Government generally hires for USA projects, private enterprise usually hires now overseas except for the minimum wage stockers and cash register operators.
What government has made are public works. They hire most of the construction, probably buy 25 percent of the vehicles in the country for their minions to drive around in, checking on the contractors and otherwise telling us what to do.
If government didn't spend most of the money, private enterprise wouldn't spend so much money influencing them.
It's time to play a little game of Truth about Glover's so-called successful foray to Atlanta. He haunted the executive offices for three days and then he got a brief meeting just to make him go away. The Costco and Home Depot were built despite Jim Glover, not because of him. He's been lying about this one long enough.
ReplyDeleteAt least Crawford does not try to run a campaign based on sympathy. And why did his in-laws take the kids away from Glover after his wife died? That is telling.
ReplyDeleteVote Crawford!
Lowest and most disgusting endorsement of Crawford I've seen so far. It makes me wonder if he's really as nice as some people (like Tony) claim.
ReplyDeleteThe kids were hers and they had fathers who had not given up their parental rights. Jim let the entire group move in when he married their mother and loved the kids. As far as I know he is still very involved in their lives.
ReplyDelete4:41: You're disgusting.
ReplyDelete4:41 --
ReplyDeletePeople are smarter than you give them credit for. Your post was clearly a deceptive hatchet job.
You really are cynical.
4:41 may be disgusting and cynical. He is also correct.
ReplyDeleteNo retreads
ReplyDelete12:33: 4:41 is technically correct in that his wife's parents took the kids. What he fails to mention is the kids were not Jim's. 4:41 is implying some sort of unnamed guilt by half-truth. ("Have you stopped beating your wife?")
ReplyDeleteIt's not only disgusting, it's cowardly. If that's the way John Crawford wants to run his campaign, keep in mind that's the kind of councilman he'll be.
Actually, whats obvious is that the 4:41 posting was a hatchet job against Crawford.
ReplyDeleteSome deceptive, malicious person thought it would clever to say something ugly and then say that they were a Crawford supporter. Someone IS acting like a low-life; but it's not Crawford.
I doubt it is Crawford but he has some kids working for him who I could see saying that kind of thing and ultimately that is Crawford's responsibility.
ReplyDelete12/24/10 4:41 PM could also be Harris Wilder trying to make Anne McGregor politically material again by starting a fight between Crawford and Glover.
ReplyDelete8:41 --
ReplyDeleteYou appear to have leaped to the conclusion that a Crawford supporter actually posted the negative text.
Aside from the fact there is no objective reason to assume that, I doubt any Crawford supporter did post the offensive text.
Let's face it folks, people do post thing on blogs that they attribute to someone else to cause mischief.
9:32: The fact that the negative text ended with "Vote Crawford!" may indeed have lead people to leap to the conclusion that a Crawford supporter actually posted the negative text. Some people may even think that would be an objective reason to assume that.
ReplyDeleteCrawford would not disrespect a fellow candidate. Glover has had 12 years to do work for the city. His notions are tired, his ideas uninspired. I'm voting for Crawford. The 4th district deserves better representation.
ReplyDeleteDon't try to deny that your dumb busted ass didn't write the mess against Glover. You are the same ass hole that's been writing worthless comments on the very next time.its just a matter of time before you exposed. I wouldn't vote for Crawford nor Anne! Voters are impressed with all of the candidates personal life "attack" grow up Mase media writing for Anne McGregor! So busted
ReplyDeleteMase is busted! Anne McGregor is playing dirty so busted!
ReplyDelete10:02: How about a Crawford worker or supporter?
ReplyDeleteI doubt it was Mase. I think it was Harris.
ReplyDeleteHarris doesn't use the word thug to describe a candidate; Mase does use it trying to be cleaver plus he thinks he us the it boy. He is kissing ass. Mase is so busted!
ReplyDeleteIT WAS CLEARLY NOT CRAWFORD WHO WROTE THAT DISGUSTING COMMENT ABOUT GLOVER. Be smart, people. Would Crawford or any of his supports be so stupid to write something that vile, then end it with "Vote Crawford!"
ReplyDeleteThat clearly was designed to make him look malicious and terrible. The fact is, Crawford has much more class than that, and he is above making low-ball attacks at people. The same can't be same for the jackass who wrote the initial manipulative 4:41 comment.
It was neither John Crawford nor his supporters who wrote the low 4:41 comment. Grow up, move on.
ReplyDeleteWho is Mase?
ReplyDelete12:03 & 12:13: Methinks thou doth protest too much.
ReplyDeleteWe're all free to protest--or call bullshit on--anyone who is slandering a candidate.
ReplyDeleteMase Hakes - Anne McGregor for Kansas City Council
ReplyDeleteSocial Media Coordinator · Sep 2010 to present · Kansas City, Missouri
I manage all social media sources for the campaign and work to gather campaign volunteers.
Really Mase is a
a want to be political kiss ass. he's trying to move up,he's was trying to do a smear campaign with Monica for her mom against Brandon Ellington concerning his music, but Brandon exposed it himself, what a waste and I use to think that Mase was actually going to do some good but he trying to play the old politicans games.
This is just a rumor but word is Glover went broke financing his mayoral run and even used up his small inheritance. He had no dough, but then one of his cases at Cooling law firm paid off and he's flush again. Frankly, if you have to use your own money to run your race, that's not a good sign. Don't know if this story is true...can anyone confirm?
ReplyDelete12/26/10 2:02 PM-Who cares if Glover used his own money or not, atleast he's not owned by the special interest groups. Can't you find your cat to play with today?
ReplyDeleteThis thread is soaked with the Harris Wilder slime trail.
ReplyDeleteI think Harris was caught and threw Mase under the bus.
Mase & Harris both are working with Anne so you do the math! I sure hope Mase gets himself straight he is trying to run for office MCC, doing a smear campaign isn't going to help him at all.
ReplyDeleteI think it is Harris. He is trying to prove his manhood to McGregor.
ReplyDelete6:37, that is gross on so many levels. :)
ReplyDeleteHarris leaves a slime trail whereever he goes.
ReplyDeleteGlover is the one on the left.
