The effort to rename the Troost Bridge in honor of Alvin Brooks and Walt Bodine is still underway . . . TKC Compromise: How does the "Old, Busted and Sorta Beloved Bridge" sound?

Chris Stigall shoulda had a bridge.
ReplyDeleteA candle shop or a morgue named for Brooks; OK. But a bridge because he's been such a force at race relations?
ReplyDeleteYou've got to be kidding!
Name the west side of the bridge for Walt, and the east side for Alvin.
ReplyDeleteNaming things for people is stupid. The Parks Department has re-named virtually everything for a recently retired Parks Dept. employee.
ReplyDeleteThe bridge that carries Wornall Road over Indian Creek is named after the former director of Public Works, and it has a picture of a suspension bridge on the plaque, though the bridge is a regular beam-type.
Look at the great bridges: Golden Gate, Brooklyn, Verrazano Narrows, London, Tower... none of them named after a person.
The Bodine-Brooks bridge. The triple B. Plate it in gold with stimulus dollars. Alvin would like that. Then stick a gold microphone on top for Walt.
OK, I'm done.
