I visited Mayor Funky's low rent disaster last night.
Later on . . . Awesome TKC Tipsters dropped a few kind notices that Mayor Funky wasn't even really a big part of the event . . .
VERY MUCH LIKE WDAF COVERAGE OF THE X-MAS TREE LIGHTING, MAYOR FUNKY WAS ALL BUT IGNORED BY LOCAL MEDIA!!!
However, what I really liked was a rather Funky challenge to TKC reporting . . .
Let's take on the criticism line by line:
"So you lied about the Christmas Tree not having any sponsors." I never wrote that, I can help you with your comprehension if you'd like. I wrote that the Mayor's X-mas tree event was without MAJOR sponsors. Keep reading, you'll get better.
"The truth." I always know people are full of it when they claim to know "the truth" but that's just a funny indicator for me.
"Sponsors this year were Hallmark and Crown Center, Randy Reed GMC, Kansas City Power & Light, Price Chopper and Tension Envelope. Randy Reed supplied a Buick Regal 2-year lease being paid for by Randy Reed and KCP&L. A $5 donation allows people to enter a Jan. 2 drawing for a chance to win the car lease."
To this ANOTHER AWESOME TKC COMMENTER has a better answer than mine:
"Crown Center is ALWAYS the major sponsor. Price Chopper is ALWAYS involved. KCP&L is involved because Mike Chesser is tight with Funk. They have paid for the car for the past three years, so no news there. Tio made it through a handful of episodes and is hardly a celebrity. Cathy Nugent is a big Republican operative, just like Roe, and she was paid $10,000 to do what others did for free. No grants were even applied for. After all this, the question needs to be asked: how much in dollars was distributed to people in the form of Price Chopper gift cards? Got an answer for that, Gloria?"
It's amazing what comes up in the comments.
Now, from my own perspective: Aristocrat Motors dumping Mayor Funky's Tree is a big deal. Randy Reed is where broke people buy clunkers. Sorry people, it's not my fault that German Engineering stays winning.

"Where's Louie Wright anyway? I haven't seen you produce a shred of evidence to that effect. It's obviously a lie." Keep waiting and reading. Eventually in a couple of weeks you'll read the same "reporting" in a newspaper. Natch.

Anyhoo . . . Now that we have that cleared up, ANSWERED IN FULL, and dismissed. Let's get to the real details . . .
Thanks to folks who appreciated the way I see the modern day X-mas lighting . . .
Here's what I noticed from the event:
Horrible turnout for such a nice evening. The weather was rather warm and it really is a great tradition . . . But the blocked off street was mostly empty.
Darla Jaye was great. If there was a highlight to this hot mess, it was Darla. Much better presentation, a greater connection to people in the audience and she kept it as up beat as possible.
Most importantly . . . Don't even try to argue with me on this one:
THE CROWN CENTER CROWD SPURNED MAYOR FUNKY, TALKED OVER HIS REMARKS AND PRETTY MUCH POLITELY IGNORED THE DOUR POLITICO!!!
It wasn't a pretty sight. I almost felt sorry for the dude until I remembered that he's one of the most corrupt Mayors Kansas City has been burdened with in the modern era.
Still, toying with the last remaining Funky supporters and angry TKC fans is a nice distraction for a Saturday but it also indicates that the Funkhouser Administration is watching the race for Mayor slip through their fingers . . . And toes.
