Development plans and so many metro living schemes have always been a local pastime but for a great many (good) reasons, people don't want to think about their last stopping point in this town. To wit and because so many d-bags claim I never have anything good to say, Kansas City Hospice House could be one of the best services in this cowtown. Check out a recent video that explains what they do.

Cool. Nice.
ReplyDeleteA very good resource. Thank you Tony.
ReplyDeleteHow wrong you are, Tony. Best place to die is a massive heart attack that drops you to the floor and lowers your body temperature on the spot. Hospice is better than nursing home ignorance because at least you can get your morphine on demand rather than wait til your assigned doctor gets off the golf course.
ReplyDeleteBut otherwise, there's no good way to die slowly. I know this, having watched both of my parents wither away, yes with hospice care.
But no question, if you're in the position to ease your parents to the next place, by all means call them. They'll help you more than you know now. I've discovered that it's children's duty to help their parents at end of life, and it's one of the hardest things we'll ever do.
The Radioman is RIGHT. But if you don't get that MI and are confronted with slow agonizing death, then Hospice House provides the BEST compassionate care. The staff at Hospice House are remarkable. Tony thanks for giving them some notice.
ReplyDeleteI have been to the KC Hospice House as a visitor. I will tell you hands down they have the most motivated, engaged, and caring people in any healthcare facility in the entire world, and I am not kidding, that I have ever been to. I have been to many nursing homes, hospitals, and tertiary care facilities. I cannot say enough nice things about the place. They deserve every honor they get.
