TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CANDIDATE DEB HERMANN ANSWERS QUESTIONS REGARDING HER REPUBLICAN RECORD!!!
Like it or not, Kansas City is a Democrat controlled town.
One of Mayor Funky's major pitfalls has always been that he never understood how to deal with the local Donkeys who value party loyalty.
BUT RUMORS THAT CITY COUNCIL LADY DEB HERMANN IS BASICALLY A PARTY JUMPER FROM THE GOP HAVE ALREADY STARTED TO SURFACE!!!
Let's look at the evidence . . .
Deb Hermann ran and won as Clay County GOP central committee member in 1994 and 1996. Her critics note that she was a Republican starting in the 1980's up until she recently switched teams.
Defenders of Deb note that she also ran and won as a Democrat Committee Member as well.
Rather well-informed critics of Council Woman Herman claim that Mayor Pro Tem Bill Skaggs publicly encouraged her to fill a vacancy on the Dem committee just last year.
Let the paid newsies transcribe petty details about timing . . . TKC is here to do some REAL REPORTING regarding the strategies that will inform the upcoming Mayoral campaign. The "Republican Question" surrounding Deb Hermann's candidacy is important enough to persuade so many local voters who have strong Democrat ties going back to The Great Depression . . . Before this one.
Anyhoo . . . Because this is so important, for once. . .
TKC DECIDED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE SOURCE FOR ANSWERS ON PARTY AFFILIATION FROM THIS NORTHLAND MAYORAL CANDIDATE!!!
Here's Council Lady Deb Hermann on record responding to questions regarding her party affiliation:
"I am currently on the Clay County Democratic Central Committee and have considered myself a Democrat for ten plus years. I was a Republican years ago but Clay County went too extreme for me. That being said, I have openly supported and voted for candidates on both sides, depending on their qualifications."
So, now it's up to Kansas City voters to decide for themselves. Despite the fact that extreme party loyalty strikes me as counterproductive especially given that Latinos could be the most powerful voting bloc in the very near future that could swing elections either way . . . What's exceptionally gully and fun is that in Kansas City Proper a Republican record is widely perceived as a negative and something that needs to be examined and sometimes explained.
Decent reporting for once. Stop hatin.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Burke's people are keeping the heat on Herman. The ethical lapse by her is a bigger issue than a conviction free party switcher and supposedly there is more. Her claim that she didn't know any better than have two members of the Ethics Commission on her campaign committee is lame at best.Burke needs to push her off stage and has more coming I bet after today's post by Tony. All the other candidates just sit back and watch. You would want to include the Funk in the ethical dust up except who cares ??
ReplyDeleteCity council and mayoral elections are not political party elections. That said, most everyone knows that all of those people are Democrats. Does it surprise anyone that the City is run so badly. The Democrats should do what they do best - run lemonade stands. Anything else will be a failure. But yes, let's keep putting those failures in office to run our City.
ReplyDeleteWe should do away with the non-partisan bullshit and run Ds against Rs.
ReplyDeleteDeb does not like people of color and only wants to cut taxes on businesses at the expense of city services, so of course she is a Republican.
Take a look at her. She thinks she is better than who?
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't think she's better than anyone you fool.
ReplyDeleteThe attacks recently have been directed at Herman. She must be the front runner.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't think she's the front runner and I think this is a great post Tony. As a voter I want to know these things. I was asking myself the same because I remember Hermann being Funkhouser's biggest supporter. Didn't she defend that old racist lady on the park board? She's always been known as a Republican and a racist. So why is Manny giving up his place for a fundraiser?
ReplyDeleteShe is too damn mean to be mayor. I would vote for the co-mayors' reelection before I voted for the queen of mean.
ReplyDeleteI am afraid that we are going to be faced with a choice between two Jeff Roe oriented candidates, Hermann and Funkhouser. How could it happen?
She has my vote, regardless of party! Mayorial votes are not party races.
ReplyDeleteJohn Sharp was elected as a Republican. Sharp will be anything to get a vote.
ReplyDeleteShe is a fiscal conservative and I think a suburbanite at heart. I think that is why people think she is racist--it may be more of a suburban discomfort with black people. But, she does seem to like the gays....so who knows!
ReplyDeleteJust letting the officeholders and candidates who plan to go to the KCPRIDE event tonight that John Comstock will want you to play a game to make you look silly at the end of the night.
ReplyDeleteJohn is an immature man, and a bit of a sadist who gets off on making people do humiliating things. You really would not want video of what John will ask you to do to end up on the internet. Cameras are very small, often wireless and very good now. The only way you can be sure it will not is if you do not take part.
Those of you who want a public career just keep this in mind:
There is something called You Tube now. Sometimes one County Legislator is very interested in seeing another County Legislator put up for ridicule right before an election.
Enough Said? Fair Warning!
deb=bigot
ReplyDeleteSHE WAS A REPUBLICAN?!?!
ReplyDelete(Grow up.)
Coach Comstock is an idiot. I hope that event does end up on the net.
ReplyDeleteSo who is your TARGET AUDIENCE, Tony? Insider politicians working both KANSAS CITY GOVERNMENT AND JACKSON COUNTY GOVERNMENT?
ReplyDeleteCurious. How many people actually give a shit about all this elbowing between candidates for these two positions?
I BET LESS THAN FIFTY, the usual city and county politico activists vieing for their candidates, people who would usually just gossip at a weekly party... but you've dedicated your ENTIRE BLOG to these political hobbiests?
WHY? Do they PAY YOU, TONY? Or can you only guarantee a base readership by appealing to them, day after day?
Can you really support a popular blog on the issues of who wins on the JXCO commission and the KCMO city commission?
I wouldn't think so. I would think the more you appeal to these political insiders in this ONE JURSIDICTION, the more regular citizens from the outlying areas would abandon you!
Remember, Tony. the KCSD is losing students BIG TIME to outlying areas. That means, by definition, so does the INNER CITY!
If I were you, I'd do a one thread treatment of every outlying county area, once a week. With photos of the politicians. CLAY, JXCO, WYCO, JOCO, PLTCO, et all.
I think despite the popularity of that moronic KCMO Mayor, the relevance of Kansas City Missouri diminishes every day.
Every day, JOCO, and Western Jack and PLCO and CLCO get BIGGER and KCMO/JXCO gets smaller.
For all the reasons you cite. Tony, I think you need to cover the outlying counties finally, but do so to show their pix, their histories.
KC JXCO may be easy, but to be honest, a growing number of this metro area is losing interest in the center city. And poor blacks just don't have the Internet!
learn who your audience is, my good Friend, and it aint in the inner city!
PS... KCMO is not growing. The houses are being built OUTSIDE OF KCMO, not INSIDE IT!
ReplyDeleteThe businesses (employers) are growing OUTSIDE KCMO, not INSIDE it.
This is not your problem. You are not obligated to build goodwill for downtown area landowners who have made plenty of money already over the decades and supported their families. Why should it follow that their GRANDCHILDREN get rich off those properties too?
Maybe downtown KC should be razed and turned into a nice golf course! or else just a huge OK parking lot for buses TO TAKE WORKERS TO COLLEGE BLVD WHERE THE NEW DOWNTOWN AREA IS!
Get it? Lets quit sucking up to rich people like we owe them to keep them rich!!! Let them suck it up like the REST OF US have to do!
Deb Hermann is a liar. She and Bill Skaggs voted for $1billion debt increase of the City.
ReplyDeleteShe is in no way a republican. She is a true liar.
Radioman you really are a fucking idiot. The Kansas City Mayor election is the biggest news in the whole area and we need to know more about the candidates. Tony may not like this but he just persuaded me to consider Deb Hermann a little bit more because she seems to have more sense than the typical Democrat.
ReplyDeleteI tend to like the councilpeople who come out of neighborhood activism - which Deb does. And she's had the cajones to deal w/ the effed up city budget. For which, of course, the mayor claims credit. She strikes me as serious about the MANY problems KCMO faces. And I live there so I care.
ReplyDeleteRadioman, I normally don't like your stuff all the time, but I like it today.
ReplyDeletewerd.
ReplyDelete4:41... shut up Kendrick.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to talk about ethical lapses, let's talk... about Mike Burke's. About how he served as legal counsel for the Port Authority and garnered more than $4.1 million bucks... some of which during when he was running for mayor. Let's talk about lies to clients, and billing that doesn't always add up. Remember what he did to Cindy Circo, when he had one of his "I don't recall" moments. Burke and Rowland are both seriously "ethically challenged" and hopefully the voters will see that.
ReplyDeleteHermann is certainly no bigot, and is one of the most color-blind people on the council. She doesn't pander to get votes from any race. She is a true leader.
10:12, you are full of crap. Deb was not a Funk supporter, never campaigned for him or gave him a dime. She didn't know Frances Semler except by name and never defended her once. She is not racist and the only people who think she is are stupid a**holes like yourself who perpetuate lies. If you know Deb, you know she is not a racist.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing this post tells you is that Deb has the others running scared.
TRUE DAT!
ReplyDeleteDeb was a Republican when I first met her. When she ran for council she started playing it more middle of the road. Skaggs is pulling her strings and running her campaign. Nothing worse than a party jumper. They all have excuses about how the party left them. B.S.You stick your finger in the air and decide what's in your best interest. P.S. I always wanted to be a Democrat because all my friends are but it is not a good fit for me so I hang out with my fun D's and vote for the people I can count on,R's.
ReplyDeleteDeb paraded Funk's budget and then Troy,s. Deb has NEVER had her own budget. Stop crediting her for other people's work. Deb will not make it out of the primary.
ReplyDeletecolor-blind = ignoring inequality and bigotry

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that.
Deb Hermann's issues to overcome:
ReplyDeleteHermann backed Funkhouser after he exposed himself... as a racist psychopath.
Hermann continued to be his solid "yes vote" on all major issues until she decided she wanted to run.
Hermann supported many of his crazy "initiatives" Clearly a sign of her lack of forethought.
Hermann continued to allow her anger AT Wayne Cauthen to control how she voted on major issues. Her unwillingness to vote FOR Kansas City's good got ditched when it meant sticking it TO Cauthen.
So, just what is the difference between Hermann and Funkhouser?
I am done with vindictive meanness. Have you had enough?
Deb isn't the best in the race and she probably will not make it into the primary. That does not diminish her years of service to this city. Unfortunately for her, she lacks polish and business finesse.
ReplyDeleteWe are in need of both after the rough treatment at the hands of Gloria Squitiro and Mark Funkhouser.
It would be good to have a Republican as mayor. For one thing, Congress will be Republican after the upcoming elections. Then in 2012, we'll have a Republican for President, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are smoking crack if you think Republicans will take Congress in 2010. Win seats, yes. A lot, maybe. Prepare themselves for a potential majority in 2012, yes maybe. Take away the largest majority in history? No way in hell.
ReplyDeleteAnd in 2012 we will not have a Republican because Republicans apparently found it popular within their party to hate latinos, gays and women and all three happen to come out to vote just like they did for Obama in states like Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas, South Carolina, Florida, Utah, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri where that voting population makes up a lot of votes.

ReplyDeletehate to break it to you but the Gingrich Revolution is long gone. The standard bearer for your party is Sarah Palin.. HAHAHAHAHA!!! HAHAHAHAH!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! HAHAHAHA !!!!!!!
