A great many thanks to the folks at Checker Cab for providing TKC READERS WITH AN EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW OF THEIR EFFORTS TO HELP FIGHT BREAST CANCER!!!
Council Lady Maracason also deserves credit for organizing the fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness month that will include a pink taxi that will donate a portion of fares this October during Breast Cancer Awareness month while all of their cabs will sport a ribbon noting the cause.

Councilwoman Marcason sponsors effort of Checker Cab to “Go Pink” for Breast Cancer Awareness
Checker Cab, long known for its distinctive green taxis, will be wrapping at least one of their vehicles in pink to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Breast Cancer. Company President, Sheri Watson, plans to wrap one of their vehicles in pink year round. A portion of each fare from this vehicle will be donated this October during breast cancer awareness month.
Checker’s other 124 taxis, some of which operate as affiliated City Cabs, will also sport awareness ribbons in October.
There is no additional cost to passengers.
“This is a way for us to use our presence on the road each day to raise awareness, and help raise some money,” Watson said. “I’ll bet if you poll 10 people, you’d find every one of them knows someone who has fought breast cancer. So we all need to get into the fight.”
The idea of vehicles “going pink” is being spearheaded by the Taxicab, Limousine and Paratransit Association (TLPA), an international association of for-hire vehicle fleet owners representing 1,100 companies. Watson is a Board Member of the group.
None of the money raised goes to TLPA, since the entire project is ultimately driven and managed at the grassroots level by each member company working within its hometown community. This is their first year doing this and member companies say they hope their 100,000 vehicles on the road make a difference.
The effort is sponsored by Councilwoman Jan Marcason. The Pink Taxi will be on hand June 17 at 12:30 p.m. near the entrance to the City Hall parking garage on Oak Street along with Sheri Watson of Checker Cab, Councilwoman Jan Marcason and Craig Bates of Checker Cab to give interviews to the media. All members of the City Council have been invited to attend.
