Arizona hate comes back to Kansas City this morning.
Word was already circulating that UMKC's prof. Kris Kobach was helping with the Arizona Racial profiling law.
CBS news confirms it and TKC is the first news-ish outlet to highlight the fact:
"Kris Kobach, a University of Missouri-Kansas City law professor who helped write the Arizona legislation, said he anticipated legal challenges and carefully drafted the language. He said the state law is only prohibiting conduct already illegal under federal law."
NOW THERE'S WORD THAT LOCAL LATINO LEADERS ARE ORGANIZING A PROTEST AGAINST UMKC AND THE CONTROVERSIAL PROFESSOR!!!
There's already Missouri legislation in the works aimed at a public university (tacitly) supporting the antics of the dude and his mostly losing legal work around the nation.
Now it seems this is the final straw that might incite a bit more local protest against the prof.

ReplyDeleteYou are way off base on your assessment that Mexican or Latino immigrants aren't trying to fit in. Every immigrant group settled in clusters and many never learned English until the second or third generations. many, German, Irish, Italian to name a few also worked to establish ethnocentric towns and areas. The people coming to the US now are no different.
Does there need to be immigration reform? Absolutely. We need to better manage and control the immigration, but this is not the way.
We're a very different country since then. For starters, we have a huge body of laws and taxation requirements for the infrastructure that didn't exist then.

Today, everyone needs to pay their taxes to pay for the many programs we have... to include schools and health care especially.
Those who don't are mooching off of the law abiding.
We do, agree on the reform. While I don't like the idea of DWL (driving while Latino), I don't think AZ lawmen can realistically do it. They can pull you over anyway, by declaring you suspicious or the famous one here, cop claiming we're 'driving left of center', or 'erratically'.
I do think this will help push the reform needed.
I'm not suggesting all illegals don't learn English. They do need to do that first, however. That (and education) are the first steps to getting out of poverty in this country.
Mexicans come here because its a place of opportunity. That opportunity comes because this is an educated society. To dumb down America will just make the place like Mexico, the place from which they leave.
We have to get them out of the shadows because they won't be good citizens (used loosely) unless they are.
Hurray for Kris Kobach! I was going to vote for him anyway, but this just once again reenforces my respect for him and his positions.

You're going to have immigrants coming in that want to truly make a better life for themselves, rather than get all the free handouts. Why are we constantly passing laws to cover the symptom, rather than attacking the true issues?? That would also remove the hate aspect.

The former immigrants were in a sink of swim situation, now the various governments take care of a whole range of social services. Unfortunately, the governments are all BROKE. UNEMPLOYMENT is at least 20%, there are no jobs for citizens or undocumented citizens either. The problem is much bigger than stopping the flow of Mexicans into the USA. Mexico is falling apart. Since the feds wouldn't enforce their own laws, Arizona wrote one that doesn't require the feds to enforce. Kobach simply helped them so that there wouldn't be any conflict with federal laws. Now how hard is that to understand? It's apparent that TKC doesn't like the federal law, and he doesn't want some rogue state (hah!) enforcing what was already there. Such a moron!

ReplyDeleteWell, I saw a piece on my favorite network, MSNBC, an interview with some Arizona Sheriffs deputy saying what's always been.
ReplyDeletePull people over, ask for drivers license, if none, ask for documentation and for some, the best they get's a Mexican voter registration card.
His concern seems to be under this new law requiring turning them over to ICE, illegals may run or shoot the cops. Heretofore Arizona cops didn't bust aliens.
But if ICE is going to just let them go, what good is that?
MNSBC's Chris Matthews offered the best thing to solve this problem is to lean on US employers HARD, and if Mexicans cant get jobs, they'll go home or quit coming.
That makes a lot of sense to me. I've heard all this whining about Mexican drug cartels. That has nothing to do with most immigration. The problem is that Mexico's goverment LIKES this sneak under the wire shit.
Illegal mexicans live in crowded conditions here and send fresh money home. Its a no win deal for a country too corrupt and too lazy to improve itself.
Lets build the fence. Mine the other side. Publicize that. Force them to build their own country rather than trash ours with people even Mexico doesn't want.

ReplyDeleteI know someone who got a tax refund nearly as large as mine - I'm a single mother of two, she has no children, no husband and did not work one day last year. However, SHE knows how to work the tax system, and did.
And she's the whitest, blondest native-born American you'll ever see - NOT an illegal or any other type of alien.
And remember, most "welfaire queens" are CAUCASIAN.
I think it's safe to say most "illegals" are not Welfare Queens like Tony & Family, and do actually work their asses off.
