TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! CITY HALL INSIDERS SAY MAYOR FUNKY'S FLIRTATION HELPED THE E-TAX CRISIS!!!

Once again Mayor Funky reputation for being "Smart with the Money" is taking a beating among Kansas City's political establishment.

BEHIND THE SCENES, MAYOR FUNKY IS UNDER FIRE FOR POLITICAL FLIRTING WITH ANTI-E-TAX PETITIONERS!!!

Critics are saying that the Former City Auditor should have known that Kansas City might as well just roll up the streets without the money to the General Fund that the E-Tax provides.

These are local opinion makers that are trashing Mayor Funky's opportunism and the way he hoped Sinquefield cash would help his campaign.

HILARIOUSLY, SINQUEFIELD DIDN'T EVEN NEED TO BUY MAYOR FUNKY TO PUT THE E-TAX ON THE BALLOT!!! AND BECAUSE OF THE MAYOR'S POLITICAL INCOMPETENCE, THE FLIRTATION WITH ANTI-E-TAX PETITIONERS MAKES HIM A COMPLETELY USELESS PROPONENT OF THE EFFORT TO WIN THE IMPENDING E-TAX VOTE!!!

Put simply, Mayor Funky was played by his Conservative buddies.

So, as usual, there isn't much leadership for financial reason in Kansas City and the "Smart with the money" Mayor is so desperate that he's stumbling all over his wife's big feet.

Nevertheless, Kansas City without the E-Tax could be a fun place given that there will be even less cash to go around . . . And politicos making big promises might actually face some real questions about how they plan to pay for their plans.

  1. Gee, only about one in four large cities imposes an earnings tax. My, my, jus' how on earth do those other cities evah survive? Why, I'll bet some of them even manage to plow their snow in the wintertime, instead of just leaving residents buried under three feet of fluffy white goodness.

  2. Oh, God...the mayor just called--a tape of him, anyway--and something is wrong with it---it was normal, then went too slow, making him sound drunk.
How do I get off his phone list? I would only call him to tell him how I hate him(and to think I voted for him...)
What did taxpayers pay for this?

  6. The man's an ass.

Just like Clay Chastain is an ass.

Just like the Star's reporters/editors are asses for devoting barrels of ink make the two of them into "public figures".

The next time the Star's columnists start pontificating about City issues and candidates PLEASE remember the swell job that they've done previously.

How much you wanna bet that Kim Carlos took a cut of Rex Cash through some committee or subsidiary?

  8. KCMO without an e-tax brings to mind the movie OMEGA MAN.

  9. Forget the Funk, he's irrelevant to the E Tax debate. The blame should go to the staff at the Chamber of Commerce who have completely ignored the implications of this E Tax repeal. But what do you expect, they all live in Kansas. They will get a tax cut!!

  10. Jeff Roe will boot the Co-mayors in due time. Im surprised Gloria's weegie board hasnt told her so.

  13. Tony,

Ok, we get it. You don't like Funkhouser. Really. We get it.

I respect what you've developed here. I don't always respect how you did it, but you've created something solid.

However, the Funkhouser obsession is getting really old. I don't know whether I will support the guy next year or not. He's made plenty of mistakes. But so have I. And so have you. And, so far, I don't see anyone else I could vote for who doesn't seem like a federal indictment waiting to happen.

So here's the deal. You don't like "The Funk." Rush "I never met a prescription pill I didn't like" Limbaugh, doesn't like Obama. You're both becoming parodies of what you set out to do. And no one listens to parodies; they simply laugh and shake their heads.

There are plenty of other targets in Kansas City, Tony. It's time to take your sights off the easy one and start going after the hard targets that really are the cause of this city's problems.

Check out the city's civic leadership? Oh, wait. There is none. Why so quiet on that? Not easy enough? Not something you can copy from The Star?

Check out the (not so Great)er Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. The majority of the leadership of that organization live in Johnson County, work in Johnson County, pay Johnson County taxes (or cheat on them) and want to dictate how Kansas Citians spend their own tax dollars. Can you say "new Downtown hotel"? Too hard a target?

Take on county government, an entire building dedicated for decades to public corruption. County government was set up to govern the unincorporated areas of the county. And where would those areas be in this day and age, Tony? And it was set up to collect taxes, which could be done more efficiently by private endeavor. And to run the courts. Oh, wait, the courts can't really be touched by the county legislature. They're wasting millions Tony. Too hard a target?

Some advice. One trick ponies and one pitch pitchers don't have lenghty careers. We get it Tony. You've already said Funkhouser is a lame duck. It's time to move on.

    A friend

  16. 3:30 is right on. but sounds more like to me that should be the job of the star or broadcast investigative reporter (hello, russ?) not a hack blogger.

  19. Tony don't let up on the FUNK until he's out of Office and can no longer harm Kansas City.

    Keep hammering away.
The Public has a short memory.
After he's gone then take on other inept politicians. I agree with you tony.

  20. DISAGREE. Take notes. Bring it up at election time. You keep bringing it up and I'll have learned to scroll past them. Or ignore you all together.

This isn't a sprint. This is a long distance run. Take notes, bring it up at the right time. And it's not now. This anti-funk campaign you're doing is soooo tiresome. I just scroll past every ANTI MAYOR rant you do!
