So, the Trolley is kicking off on Friday.
I was just thinking of the Top Ten Reasons it won't work:
10. Local weather is too hard to predict for Trolley riding. I'm still thinking it could snow.
9. Still too much walking for lazy locals.
8. Spreading around P&L District Clientele probably isn't a good idea considering most of them just gawk and sip one expensive beverage throughout the evening.
7. Too much cash invested for too few club hoppers . . . It's the same mistake the P&L District made only this time on wheels.
6. Young white women calling out to their friend "COURTNEY!!!" will make the ride unbearable.
5. Mass Transit bleeds money on a bigger scale, the micro-model is even more shaky.
4. Countdown till racial/violent/sexist incident and ensuing negative press.
3. No drinking on the trolley. Right?
2. Multiple locations for date rape might not be that appealing.
1. If it was a really great idea it wouldn't have needed so much taxpayer subsidy.
A rail loop would be much better, but you would oppose that too Tony.
ReplyDeleteYou just oppose anything that might keep a few cars off the streets. If you did not make your mom go out to get the mail, I bet would drive out to the mailbox, even if it was attached to the house.
The Douchebag Express ... Alllllll Aboarrrrd!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood call T....
ReplyDeleteHere are more reasons:
1. Male misbehavior. Young women have been the key to P&L success. Men have sniffed this out and have flowed to P&L in droves. Women will quickly flee from being "trapped" aboard a vehicle with throngs of drunken - idiot men out of control.
2. The 18th/Vine political inclusion will terrorize the "suburban" types. There are not enough tourist or urban dwellers to make it work. Look for the organizers to try to wiggle out of this stop in short order (don't let em Tony!)
3. Westport. The concept is obviously designed to create more flow to Westport. A new transport choice will not change the negative environmentals (and terrible perception) there.
4. Brookside/Waldo. These are the "new" Westport's. Why would any local pay $15 bucks to leave those areas? That's three beers to catch a ride? Won't fly. Note: If the Grand Falloon leaves the Plaza that area falls off the local-young social map. Rumor - the Fallon is headed to Brookside or Waldo.
5. Trolleys have never worked in this town and all transit struggles.
6.Taxis are everywhere and cheap when shared. They're also private and go direct with no stops- immediately.
Love your blog. As a female who enjoys P&L and Martini Corner w/ friends, I wouldnt like trolley transport for various reasons. We want to go straight to our destination w/o lots of stops. Also I assume they aren't air-cond. and this could make for a humid miserable ride.
ReplyDeleteCan you see any politicl wreckage in that pictur? My distrcit lost tourist $ to this deal. Fucking rip off.
ReplyDeleteWooden benches and no air conditioning in these things. This concept was tried in the early
ReplyDelete1990s. It failed then and it will fail again. Doesn't anyone at City Hall remember that?
Bill Nigro's last stand and another failure for Bill George. All the Council remembers is the mou-lah that these guys pump to them. The council was brow beaten into this atrocity and Craig Glazer can shut his criminal ass up.
ReplyDeleteI really wish you believed in your point number one. If you did, you would not believe in half of the crap you spew.
ReplyDeleteGood point #1, actually great.
ReplyDeleteToo pessimistic.
ReplyDeleteDrunks get off trolly and then what? Drive home having consumed even more because they weren't driving while they partied? Count on a sobriety test waiting at the stops.
ReplyDeleteWhat does someone do if they're in the middle of the hood and trouble breaks out? Get off? They'll have to have the equivilant of air marshalls on those things. One ugly incident will be twittered all over town.
ReplyDeletePeople are talking about the trolley. They say they may ride it once or twice.
ReplyDeleteYep 8:56 I wnat the "no paseo" card.
ReplyDeleteouch.
