AT THE END OF THE DAY KANSAS CITY COUNCIL DUDE JOHN SHARP CONFIRMS TKC TIPSTER REPORTING IN SPRINT CENTER TICKET FIASCO!!!
A great many thanks to all of the MANY commenters on TKC today . . . Still, some of you were downright wrong when it came down to the details of the story on which TKC TIPSTERS were correct . . .
The news of Councilman John Sharp's Sprint Center Tickets came from TKC Tipsters this morning.
And then mainstream media did some really great reporting as well . . .
KCTV5 noted that "someone found some of the City Council complimentary tickets being sold on Craigslist, which is against the law" That someone was A RATHER KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS!!!
I hear that Lynn Horsely at The Star is a really nice lady but she totally misquoted TKC and didn't even bother to name this blog or give a link. I never accused Sharp of selling the tickets; of course I have my own assumptions but the only declarative statement I made was that Sharp needed to take responsibility for the way his tickets were being used.
As usual, the best reporting in Kansas City came from Micheal Mahoney.
And here's the most important part for TKC Readers who doubted the accuracy of TKC TIPSTER REPORTING:
"Sharp concedes the sign up sheet says the tickets were allocated to him."
That was what TKC TIPSTERS REPORTED and at the end of the day that's what VETERAN AND AWESOME REPORTER MICHEAL MAHONEY REPORTED.
The last word on the subject from Sharp:
KCTV5: "Sharp added that from now on if he can't go to a show, he will probably destroy his tickets to prevent someone from trying to sell them."
Mahoney blog: "Sharp says he may avoid the controversy altogether in the future by not taking the free tickets. “Maybe I’ll just pitch ‘em the next time.”"
Sadly, that's a pouty and typical response from this City Council. Rather than taking responsibility and working toward solutions . . . They simply chose destruction and waste.
Nevertheless, on this subject I think I can speak for TKC TIPSTERS and for myself and note that we were really glad to help keep track of local government resources being used illegally. TKC readers were obviously interested in the subject and at the end of today I'm thankful that there's at least one instance of mischief related to City Hall that this blog helped to right. There were some critics of this KICKASS TKC TIPSTER reporting and that's their right . . . I'm a big believer in free speech and haters & critics alike help to make this blog stronger despite the fact, that on this one I think they should simply say "thank you."
You're welcome.
So nice, so nice.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day:
ReplyDeleteWinners: Tony and anyone in KC who favors truth coming to light.
And Mahoney.
Losers: John Sharp and Lynn Horsley. Oh, and all the nutcases who demanded proof in the comments of the first post on this topic. The same complaints were leveled against Woodward and Bernstein.
Put an end to the freebee kick backs!
ReplyDeleteagree
ReplyDeletegreat job tony! what a scoop.
ReplyDeleteTerrific job to you Tony and to your Tipster(s). Horsley woudn't know a story if it wrote itself and attached her worthless byline to it.
ReplyDeleteSharp's petulant attitude says it all... he's guilty as sin. Sucks to get caught.
Well Tony, in Lynn's defense, you did call her an old skank once-and something about her being too tired to report anything because she's in bed by 9pm. . .maybe thats why no TKC mention, or link?
ReplyDeleteI think Lynn is too clueless to know how to post a link. Don't take it personally, Tony. Her loss. Great job on the Not-So-Sharp story!
ReplyDeleteNow that the story on Sharp has been confirmed by him, will Roy Greenway do a damn thing about it?
ReplyDeleteThat's rhetorical... don't bother answering.
Isn't it amazing... council members have given tickets away many, many times to constituents, family members and friends. They don't have to "pitch 'em" to keep them from being scalped. Interestingly, only John Not-So-Sharp seems to have trouble with this issue. That says a lot, if only voters will listen.
ReplyDeleteMahoney has taught a lesson missed by TKC. To wit. When youre going to nail someone, you call them and say, "I'm going with xyz this afternoon. I'd like to offer you a comment or an explanation so my story will be complete."
ReplyDeleteYou'll see this well done in the movie about Woodward and Bernstein on Nixon. Called "All the President's Men".
It would be a good film to rent at Blockbuster while there still IS a Blockbuster.
Some very good tactics maybe not taught at UMKC. Did you get a Journalism degree there, or just 'attend' for a little while but skip the ethics classes?
Mahoney went straight to Sharp and got the story and got it in perspective. One of two things has happened. Sharp lied or someone else is in trouble.
The trouble with bloggers is that they like to drag the Truth out... to serialize it for days.
In today's electronic world, the news cycles just won't go on for days.
I'll admit that TKC did it this way, leaving it all up in the air and got 150 comments, but many of them were off base, and TKC got nailed himself.
It would have been a more responsible story had TKC gotten a Sharp "I don't know how this happened" and put it in the original story.
That's journalism 101! After all, Mssr Sharp was probably only a phone call away. And if he didn't return your call, well, that'd be the last time he avoided you for that'd be a very bad case of damage control. Moreover "(Target) did not return our phonecall just looks horrible. In today's case, Mahoney straightened it out very easily, as a solid journalist does every day.
Learn from it, Tony! Or was it spectacle you were after??
No radioman You missed the lesson all that did was give Nixon a heads up and time to fabricate lies.
ReplyDeleteTony hit him with a left hook that he never saw coming. GOOD JOB TONY !!!
Radioman, are you so clueless you think Sharp would have come clean with Tony? Hell, he hasn't even come totally clean yet! He'll still contend it was all a big mix-up somehow.
ReplyDeleteNice work, Tony!
Radioman living in the past of newsprint... not the era of blogging.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is real time ..... if you wait for the ink to dry ... your yesterdays news.
Why do you thinks newspapers are in so much trouble?
Good job Tony !!!!!!!
Sorry, but a phonecall takes fifteen minutes. What youre saying is that blogging is all about hit counts, the drama, the contest.
ReplyDeleteNot about news and Truth at all. Thanks for clearing that up, friends! Kind of a reality show and the only people who don't know what's up for next week are the viewers.
So it IS the spectacle, after all. Ya know, the Romans knew that the Christians would be eaten in the Colliseum the whole time. Why make it look like a legit contest with the Christians and the Lions? Just show biz, right?
Remember, Clinton never would have gotten impeached had he not lied when confronted about Monica!
ReplyDeleteTony didn't get a piece of that. But Mahoney did.
I noticed Tony didn't get mentioned on KCTV tonight. It was an integral part of the story, Tony's blog. But true to form, television stations just don't acknowledge that other media break stories.
KCTV should be ashamed, but not surprising at all. I didn't see anybody elses deliveries. but it was TKC's story and KCTV wasn't honest enough to give it the airtime.
We all know what petty media assholes are on SM Parkway, from State line to Metcalf.
"What youre saying is that blogging is all about hit counts, the drama, the contest.
ReplyDeleteNot about news and Truth at all."
Radio man you write like a relic.
If Tony's tipsters didn't tell him first this story never would've come out.
Mahoney did the heavy lifting and even Tony realizes that. But the tip and the scoop is what started the ball rolling.
Stop living in the past radio man.
Don't be such an arrogant dweeb. Of course TKC started the ball rolling by developing his tipster pool of sources. No reporter is any better than his sources.
ReplyDeleteI'm only suggesting that TKC dropped the ball by not doing a journalism basic. Getting a reax. He didn't.
Who the fuck are you, Tony? If so, then he's just a guy who can't take obvious criticism.
Don't call me a relic. You don't know what you're talking about. But you won't be accountable, hiding behind the trees. In any case, you're def not a journalist, whether when it was cool back in the day, or nowadays when people think they're experts just because they stayed in a Holiday Inn Express!
Radioman get a clue this is 2010.
ReplyDeleteyeah, okay pal. Explain to me what's different about 2010 other than more hatefulness, watered down schools, cheap products from China and an Internet where everybody can get on and show their ignorance?
ReplyDeleteTell me. Substance! Not name calling.
"That someone was A RATHER KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS!!!"
ReplyDeleteUtter bullshit. The city found out about the tickets being on Craigslist and sent out a memo about it to the mayor and council members. Then Beth Gottstein dutifully forwarded you the memo as she does all correspondence she thinks might interest you and you printed it.
Your "tipster" is nothing more than an e-mail forwarder and you're a transcriptionist of gossip that occasionally turns out to be true.
Radioman is correct. Changes in media don't erase the need for ethics and common decency. Do you clueless Tony Lovers not understand that (and I'll type slowly so you get it) there's a REASON all. those. old. journalism. rules. were. in. place. It's not because dead tree reporters loved making phone calls and confronting sources or doing the extra work of actually offering proof before making an accusation. It's to put a minimum standard of ethical behavior and decency in place, as well as to cover the reporter's own ass.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I think all of You "it's 2010" commenters actually mean what you're saying. You love nastiness, gossip, rumor and lies presented as truth and you want to keep it that way. Okay, if bloggers continue to behave in the way Tony does, without imposing any standards or ethical requirements on themselves, I guarantee you the law will catch up and we will see Tony's sorry ass being dragged into court in a big old libel suit. Bloggers might be able to do this with impunity now, but it's not gonna last too much longer. So, enjoy it while you can, all of you gawkers who are seeking not "truth" but a big, nasty, bloody spectacle. Have fun.
Hey Beth Gottstein - Do you feel dirty being Tony's uh "tipster"?
ReplyDeleteWell the hunt for truth is in Phase Two. Good job Tony!
ReplyDeleteCouncilman John Sharp has answered and said he did not personally sell the tics. At this point I believe him, although it would be so much more fun to have him hide!
Maybe the tickets will have to in the "Will Call" booth, names of recipients. They then would have to show an ID of some sort. Our version of "SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS"
Whoever sold the damn things, what kind of loser are you? They were FREE. You couldn't find some worthy person among your crowd to pass them onto?
Who actually reads Radioman? I just scroll past her blather.
Radioman is the only decent non-anonny commenter on here.
ReplyDeletetoadstool watcher = moron
ReplyDeleteGood job, TonyTaxEvader!
ReplyDeleteYou know, if you read the nearly 150 comments chronologically, it is interesting to watch the various strategies employed. There is a steady thread within a thread of those praising/thanking/congratulating the scoop.
ReplyDeleteThere are the Sharp defenders who tried a litany of manners of defending the indefensible, looking pretty lame.
An offshoot of that is the standard "attack the messenger" style of posts, to the absurd depth of attacking Tony's mother.
However, it really gets interesting when Tony is hassled for his journalism.
It seems apparent we have entered a new world, clearly not brave, of citizen journalists. I know many journalists have blogs(thinking of Rick Redfern here), many bloggers are journalists.
And there is no doubt in my mind that some cheap attorney Tony would hire if he ever really needed legal help would claim Tony is a full-fledged journalist, if that was necessary.
But Radioperson and Woodstein, the rules have changed. My gosh, you used terms like "ethics and common decency" or claimed that "Tony got nailed".
This whole line of discussion is absurd in 2010.
I would like to suggest you all read what was written. It seems like everyone read into the story what they wanted to see and filed to read to see what was actually written.
gulliver, you are absolutely right. there is no need for ethics or decency now. this is 2010! maybe if you, your family, wife/daughter/mother got libeled/smeared by tony, you might feel differently.
ReplyDeleteWeare off the point. Wehave an elected official to appears to be influenced by $200-$300 by resaling comp tickets. What change do we have with his vote when special interests pull his strings. This is a figurehead of what is wrong with our electeds.
ReplyDeletegulliver - if/when tony writes a screaming all-caps headine that your wife is a tart with a big ass who is fucking John Sharp (which is not true, but tony writes that it's true because he has no ethics, decency or respect for the truth) will you still be defending his "style" of "journalism" with daffy platitudes about it being 2010?
ReplyDeleteall this talk about journalism is bullshit. "Journalism" is an outdated concept. Seen in the light of The Internet, we can understand what it is: control over information by a professional elite.
ReplyDeleteTony just put out the facts in raw form and let the chips fall where they may. "Journalism" is now open sourced and anyone with information and an ability to think can take part.
It has been democratized and some people can't stand that.
Tony doesn't at all do that. YOu're suggesting factual, fair, and complete reporting of the facts.
ReplyDelete10:58, you clearly don't know what Journalism is. YOu're like so many products of mommies who were more concerned about your self esteem as a child than your critical thinking skills.
Blew a lot of smoke up your ass when you were five, posted your every scribble on the refrigerator door and showered you with false praise.
Journalism isn't about your opinion of what it is. It's a discipline and you will need more than a Cliff Notes, Wikipedia understanding of it. Until then, kindly don't try to practice it. It takes more than just staying a night at a Holiday Inn Express.
That's no doubt true of just about everything else in this world you've formed a superficial and unguided opinion about. How far did you get in school where you're supposed to learn things?
I hope ta hell you're not Tony in Disguise!
Radioman - Yes, yes and yes!
ReplyDeleteAnd "Fearless Leader" you forget that these are real people and not just fodder for your and Tony's entertainment. People should be able to live their lives without their reputations being smeared and ruined by libel, and there are laws in place to that effect. The only reason Tony hasn't been sued YET is that people know his worthless ass is broke. When Tony writes some libelous attack on you, your daughter or wife, mother, sister, best friend, I'm sure you'll be right here cheering him on. Not.
Hey Radioman,
ReplyDeleteYou're totaly right about these coddled mommies' babies who think their every scribble is worthy of being framed, their every (critical-thinking-challenged) thought worthy of being published.
Let's just hope these losers don't next decide that brain surgery and nuclear engineering should be "democratized" too. Lawd help us!
This blog is giving me bad dreams.
ReplyDeleteI awoke from a nightmare that I was attending a Pearl Jam concert in one of the cheap seats and was approached by John Sharp with tickets offering me access to the VIP Suite in return for one of those metal dectector things. To make matters worse, he was wearing a Nehru jacket with plaid shorts accessorized with black knee high socks and sandals.
I awoke from this nightmare swearing I would never read this blog again. Sadly, here I am.
Try to get that image out of your mind!
Good job Tony! Tony puts out the story and lets everyone decide. At the end of the day they all must go the mayor and city council.
ReplyDeleteTony, I hope you're gathering your change to pay for legal fees in the big lawsuit that's about to be filed against you, you libelous fuck.
ReplyDeleteWow - it looks like Tony's moms "tax abatement zone" conveniently ends at the edge of her front and back yards since no neighbors seem to be enjoying that $30 a year property tax deal she gets!
ReplyDeleteYou mean all the "many comments" about how you are a deadbeat who pays no taxes, and just basically a leech who sucks off the teat of the government you love to complain about so much, Tony? Those "many comments"?
ReplyDeleteTony, how does that warm milk from that government teat taste?
ReplyDeleteMmmm, gubby milky. Tony hate gubby-mint til he want to suck its titty. How does it feel to be on the right teat while John Sharp is on the left one, Tony?
ReplyDelete11:59-you sound angry. Poor thing, maybe you need a nap? Or, a clue? Tony posted the facts-deal with it-the end. Radioman-I appreciate your shorter posts and comments as of late-even if I disagree with you on some points, I'll be happy to agree to disagree with you. Exposing John Sharp's copm ticket scandal is one of the most interesting stories I've read on this blog-Keep It Coming Tony!!!
ReplyDelete12:28 - do you have a big ass? You sound like a cranky person.
ReplyDeleteOh, big-assed 12:28, you haven't heard about the big lawsuit that's about to be filed against this piece of scum?
ReplyDeleteTony,
ReplyDeletedoes the car your mommy provides for you make it easier for you to get to your white hispter panelist gigs? I'm sure it's easy to provide a car for your 40-year-old son when you don't have to pay taxes.
Why all the prejudice against big asses on here? I like a nice big juicy round thang. Shake it!!!
ReplyDelete12:48-So sorry to disappoint, but my ass is skinny and tiny. Not exactly an attribute, but its what I got. As for the supposed lawsuit about to be filed against Tony-good luck to you, moron. . .File suit against TKC for posting facts while John Sharp squirms? I wonder who is actually filing this frivolous lawsuit? John Sharp? Or, the city of Kansas City on behalf of John Sharp?
ReplyDeleteSharp and his white union buddies hate Mexicans hate west side housing and hate anyone who exposes their incompetnece.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the afternoon Johnny.
Can I get some tickets?
Tony didn't put the story out there for everyone to decide on.
ReplyDeleteTony put out HALF the story, the circumstantial facts against Mr Sharp.
The story SCREAMED for a comment from Mr. Sharp and Tony dropped the ball and handed off to the local professional journalists.
I'll try to make this clear. Tony's story was only HALF BAKED. That is HALF RAW. NOT DONE IN THE OVEN.
Missing the obligatory phone call and comment from the target.
Tony needs to get in the habit of doing that if he's to maintain any credibility with the big boys in town. And he DOES like playing with the big boys.
I just don't see how there's anything to debate on this point.
But Tony is a blogger. Just like you radio man.
ReplyDeleteWhat story have you reported?
Oh, it's not John Sharp who's filing a libel suit against Tony. It's one of the many non-public-figures that Tony has unapologetically wronged. Good case.
ReplyDeleteMeh. I bet you'd be doing a favor by helping shut down this blog. It doesn't make any money. It's just one bored and lonely man's attempt to PRETEND he is important by writing inconsequential things on the Internet.
ReplyDeleteWell dammit, there goes Tony's source for his Justin Bieber tickets. Looks like it's scalpers for you now, buddy.
ReplyDeleteHi BETH Gottstein, Tony's only "tipster."
ReplyDeleteInteresting to read lowlifes like Radio Man et al. constantly posting their annoying comments and making "journalism" type demands from a site that they read for free, disparage and then read some more!
ReplyDeleteTKC once said that he is paid by a large corporation for each comment posted.
GREAT!!!
Good job, Tony! You keep on keeping on!

You do seem to know a lot about being 'annoying' all right.
ReplyDeleteblarf
ReplyDeleteTony, you must have horrible credit. How on earth did you wreck it? Buying ice cream and Twinkies on a credit card? Or is it b/c of your mental illness?
ReplyDeleteRe: Tony "breaking" the Sharp story:
ReplyDeleteRadioman,
Good comments, as usual. It's easy to piece together if you look at the date on the memo about ticket scalping that was sent to the council and mayor the day BEFORE Tony first "published" his half-baked story. So, the memo went out the day before Tony's story.
The other part to the story is that, for a long time, Tony has had a "tipster" (everyone knows it's Beth Gottstein) who forwards him any council correspondence he might find interesting (ie: be able to use to smear someone). This has been going on for a while.
So, the memo gets forwarded, the story is already out and legit new outlets are working on it, making follow-up phone calls, checking things out and doing what legit reporters do. While they are doing that, half-baked Tony types it up as fast as he can and "publishes" it.
Did Tony get the story "first"? Why yes, he did, but not because he broke the story or had some awesome investigative "tipster' but only because he was willing to transcribe and hit "publish" half a story while the legit reporters were still doing the legwork to get a full story.
EVEN TONY ADMITS (if you read between the lines) that it was the city, not his lame-ass "tipster" who discovered the ticket scalping. (Or, he uses weasel words when talking about how the scalping was discovered.)
Tony's "tipsters" are much more pathetic than he would lead you to believe. Seems like their only skill is the ability to hit "forward" and type in Tony's e-mail addy whenever something smear-worthy comes in. Whoo.
As you so astutely pointed out, the reason these schmucks (oh, excuse me, "tipsters") forward shit to this creep is because they know he is salivating to publish a smear and will do so almost instantly without checking anything out. It's not because Tony is better that he gets "tips" like this, it's because he's so bad he's not even worthy of being called a hack.
To Anonymous 11:50.... you sound amazingly like a local political operative whose initials are Steve Glorioso. Why so interested in Sharp? Is it because you are afraid TKC's scrutiny will extend to your puppet, Cathy Jolly?
ReplyDeletei'm not as interested in playing GOTCHA as some would. I'm still not convinced that it isn't TONY HIMSELF who is running interference and the prime TKC defender in these many threads, for after all... who other than Tony himself would give a shit other than is lover?
ReplyDeleteOh that soo petty. But still. Who would be motivated enough defend TKC's mistakes other than TKC himself unless it's his mother or his lover? Silly, huh?
-0-
The guy called "Anonymous" is such a moron and such a split personality! Which is why I'll take the heat for my consistent insanity. At least you know which crazy is talking! (LOL!) I'm sure Anonymous laughs in his anonymity but lets face it, he can't take credit for his ideas when he plays that game.
So what good are the cheap shots and what good is HE if we don't give him credit for them? Which is why I'll always advocate for blog commenters to have a handle.
If they don't... then what relevance are they?
Radio man you think you have relevance.
ReplyDeleteYou don't.
You just comment on a blog. Tony just writes a blog.
You are taking all of this too seriously. DOn't stalk Tony.
