Hell just might have frozen over in Jeff City . . . Kansas City's own Democrat Jason Kander recently won a huge victory against the Show Me State GOP that's otherwise unfriendly to most efforts to support Missouri Healthcare.
Here's the word from his press release:
House Democrats on Wednesday successfully added funding to the state budget that will provide health care coverage to children with cancer. To come up with the funding, Democrats shifted a portion of the money that had been allocated for taxpayer-funded health insurance for lawmakers. This is a significant change in that Missouri House Dems fought with the GOP and actually came away with something. Credit Kander with a big victory and the hard work of longtime Dems who have struggled to finally see the party making real progress.
State Rep. Jason Kander, D-Kansas City, offered the amendments reprioritizing the money in the state operating budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1. The amendments passed unanimously. The $81,000 shifted to State Children’s Health Insurance Program will provide coverage to approximately 70 children.
“I am proud that the House unanimously agreed that health care coverage for children with cancer is worth lawmakers paying slightly higher premiums for their own taxpayer-supported health insurance,” Kander said. “However, this is just one small step as thousands more Missouri children will still be denied medical care under this budget.”
Still . . . It kind of points to the backward state of Republican dominated Missouri politics overall . . . When Dems have to fight tooth and nail just to help kids with cancer.
Good for him.
ReplyDeleteI like Kander despite the fact that is wife is unfathomably narcissistic.
ReplyDeleteKander is a good guy. Forget the Internet slander. This is a good move.
ReplyDeleteJason is doing a great job and I can only hope he'll keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteHuh - "Kander won a huge victory against the state GOP"?
ReplyDeleteExplain that - it was a unanimous vote.
It was a nice thing to do, but it was only $80K, and it had the full support of everybody. There was no battle here.
Rep. Silvey (R-KC) got $3M to restore presumptive eligibility for SCHIP...in my book $3M for all kids trumps $80k for some kids. Where's that story?
ReplyDeleteHey even George Bush increased AIDS relief funding to Africa -- even militaristic, proto-dictators can make a mistake and get something right sometimes when everyone happens to vote the same way.
ReplyDeleteSpringtime for Hitler.
ReplyDeleteI work with one of Diana Kander's "special friends" at a large law firm. The friend has said that Diana had told her that she was launching a new Internet project on Jason's behalf to smoke out Democrats who have tried to stop her husband. Now you have to remember that this special friend was almost terminated for sitting outside and singing songs about her lovelife with in ear shot of her co-workers; however, when a story is told about Diana I tend to believe it.
ReplyDeleteDiana has been sending unwanted emails of a sexual nature to my wife and I want it to stop! NOW
ReplyDeleteBullshit haters. Fucked up thing is, you're all probably "liberal" Democrats.
ReplyDeleteIt's enough to make me think about joining with the Libertarians just to get away from you jerks.
Why did Kander vote against SCHIP a few weeks back?
