A few more insights about Spark

Spark Bookhart is the Deputy Field director for Barack Obama in Missouri - He's and integral part the campaign that's never supposed to stop.

Last week this blog reported rumors that are circulating which claim that Bookhart is using resources paid for by the Obama Campaign in order support Mayor Funky and his New Tools initiative along with the "Hands Off" the KC School District lobby. These are both causes that the average Obama supporter might find troubling. I thought Obama was all about "change" and "Hands Off" wants to make sure the exact opposite happens. And as far as Mayor Funky's lost cause . . . Good luck.

Anyhoo . . . At every opportunity, I've been asking folks what they think about Spark's work.

Here is the response:

  • The most common response notes that Bookhart is part of the crew that failed to win Missouri for the Democrats despite the fact that Obama outspent McCain 3 to 1 on TV advertising.

  • Reaction on Bookhart's "Hand's Off" work is mixed. The biggest question lies with his resources . . . Still, I was surprised how many people are openly hostile to a "Hands Off" approach and want greater change for KC Schools.

  • And again . . . Whatever he's doing for Mayor Funky . . . Folks just hope he's getting paid well.

Yesterday, I had a chance to talk with Eric L. Wesson at The Call, for the most part he was complimentary of Bookhart's work but posed an interesting question and said I could quote him. Wesson asks:

"How hard was it to recruit Black people to vote for Obama?"

    Point taken.

I'm not big on judgments but it's interesting hearing reaction to this emerging leader in Kansas City's African-American Community.

      Gladly.
KC will need an influx of new fast food workers in the future.

    3. Oh I get it - you want to make a generalized and simplistic comment about a race that isn't yours so you just quote a member of that race so you can get away with it. I see...

      ReplyDelete
    4. What generalized and simplistic comment about a race did Tony make?

      You dumb black motherfucker.

    5. If I'm not mistaken, Obama lost the state of Missouri by one-tenth of a percentage point. He carried both St. Louis and Missouri by a landslide.

The next time you get a "chance" to talk to Eric Wesson, ask him if he voted. Oh, that's right, he's a convicted felon and spent MANY years in prison. Dang.

      ReplyDelete
    6. He probably gets his resources from Robin Turner.

    8. Good Pitch article. I'd like to read the book....minorities NEED to know this information.

    9. The only question I would have asked Eric Wesson would have been, "WSo, whose payroll are you shilling for this week?"

    10. kay barnes lost missouri for obama. she energized conservatives, democrats or republicans. the biggest loser in nov. was kay barnes.

      ReplyDelete
    11. I've read some of Eric Wesson's articles, which is why I no longer read The Call. That loser should have taken advantage of the grammar classes in prison and he should learn how to use spell check. The Call paper is now a disgrace to the community. The only thing it's good for is finding out who died and when the funeral is.

Hey T, why are all your scoops and quotes from ex-cons and men who use trashy white women like Robin Turner to pay their KCPL bill? I guess it's hard to "mingle" with intellectuals or ANYONE who can bring some real analysis when your rants are full of "rumors and innuendo."

      ReplyDelete
    12. What kind of man obsesses over where another man gets his money? That's a bitch-move for real man.

I don't know this Robin Turner chick, but I'll take any trashy white woman that's paying bills. How can I get in touch with her????

    13. T, this blog has made Spark Bookhart famous. I don't know what your intentions were, but I want to meet him.

4:36 is right. Obama won Kansas City by a landslide. Look it up.

As for this Eric Wesson cat, my brother was in prison the same time he was and let's just say Mr. Wesson had more than one "prison wife!"

    14. I don't understand this mentality that Bookhart and his crew failed to win Missouri despite the fact that (N)obama outspent McCain. TV ads do not win elections when you have level headed people who know that (N)obama is a NeoMarxist Cult leader who is set out to destroy this country.

    15. My favorite part of this post is when Nadia pimped her 3 year old article.

Fuck you bitches. I'm black and I voted for McCain just to piss you off.

    16. Eric Wesson is right. Spark is an incompetent, uncle tom and fake black nationalist trying to ride on President Obama's coattails. There's no way Obama should have lost Missouri-NO WAY! Spark Bookhart works both sides of the fence as a Funkhouser flunky and Ajamu Webster's do-boy. He serves an chair of one of the MANY New Tools committees yet protests on the lawn of the mayor--whose putting food on his table right about now? What kind of belly crawling maggot does that? Talk about biting the hand that feed you! Spark is positioning himself to run for office either for state rep or city council--which he has a snowball's chance in hell of winning neither. Dude is a snake, trust me, I know...

      ReplyDelete
    17. Yancy:

How could you possibly know who's putting food on that man's table?

Or is that the problem; you don't know for sure so you're forced to speculate.

This dude got ya'll HATERS in a frenzy! Hilarious!

      ReplyDelete
    18. Ya'll sound so fucking stupid. If this dude was everything ya'll saying he is, he would have never passed the vetting process to work for Obama at such a high level. Idiots.

Oh and by the way, I voted for McCain bitches!

      ReplyDelete
    19. Wow, you people have issues. My problem with blogs is that most people on here are cowards because few tend to use their real names and hide behind anonymous postings. Actually convicted felons can vote after they have cleared parole and I think Eric Wesson has done that. So why so quick to attack him for voicing his opinion? My brother and cousin were also locked up with him and I have never heard any of them ever say anything about him having a prison wife. That is silly. Whomever said they don't read the Call must read it to know about the spell check. I am happy that he has turned his life around to become more productive than most of you on here. In fact last week because of him the City was put on blast and had to pick up trash in areas throughout the City. For the past few weeks he has addressed unsolved homicides which I am sure none of you have addressed. So I commend him for the work that he has done. If someone is paying him I would rather he accept money that way than an illegal way. I am sure that you cowards will find a way to attack him. He is right and How hard was it to get Black people to vote for Obama. There was not a record turn out of Blacks voting in either St. Louis or kansas City. So Spark really didn't do all of that. More Blacks have turn out for Cleaver elections than Obama's presidential election.

      Umm, OK there Aunt Jemima.

My polling place had a wad of black voters in it for the first time in over 10 years. They all had to vote for their 'cousin'. Gotta get back...
Nice job Democraps, sneak a Zebra with a mainstream message to capture the idiot whites and ALL the blacks.

We reap what we sow. Unfortunately we sowed a bad crop.

    21. Glenda, you too failed to take advantage of the grammar lessons in prison.

      ReplyDelete
    22. Glenda and Yancy brought class to this discussion. Anonymous comments just displayed the ignorance of their authors.

      ReplyDelete
    23. I know Yancy. She and I were both interns in the Obama Fellows program together. I received a job offer, which I couldn't accept because I was moving out of Missouri. Yancy did NOT receive a job offer because her performance was sub-par at best.

I don't have an opinion on this guy either way, but if you're gonna attack someone, at least be honest about why you're bitter.

Oh, and I agree, you're making this guy famous. Keep up the good work!

      ReplyDelete
    24. Glenda:

Bitch this is a blog. Names are left out to protect the innocent and those that haven't reached the pinnacle of their careers.

You're proud of the fact that you have MULTIPLE family members in prison? You should be embarrased by the obvious lack of positive role models and values in your family.

All I know is that Obama won the election. If this Spark has that much power that he can be held solely responsible for losing Missouri by one-tenth of a percentage point, no wonder he got haters are on his dick. You guys are really concerned about where the dude gets his money from and who's feeding his family. In the words of Jay-Z, "what he eat, don't make ya'll shit." Get a life.

    25. Hey Al:

You polling place was crowded. Umm The reality is that black voter turnout was 58 percent in kansas City and 62 percent in St.Louis. Cleaver averages 64 percent and Lacy Clay and his dad in St. Louis averaged 65 to 72 percent. I might also add that the Obama campaign gave all of its operatives a script all they had to do was follow it. It did not require a rocket science degree. It would be interesting to learn why Spark left or was forced to leave the Kansas City, Mo Police Department since he is above the rest of us normal thinking Blacks.

Yeah, that crop of Bushes was quite the bumper crop full of shit. Thanks white christian dumb ass cracker necks. Why don't you all do us a favor and go give a blowjob to one of your many guns and pretend it's the end times.

    28. This was a pretty pathetic thread.. and I can't help but wonder why Alonzo doesn't weigh in under his own handle? Is this just another pissy thing over who has more street cred east of Troost, like we have about shitty hall downtown?

A lot of petty stuff. Btw, if you haven't noticed, the dems are tryng to fix the country and all you have to do is turn on the radio, watch cable or read the right wing blogs to realize its the REPUBLICANS who are already running for 2012 and without a candidate even!

Some guy said there's no reason why Obama should have lost Missouri. He obviously doesn't get out east of Blue Springs much, does he? Even the hate speech we read on here should have given him his answer as to how Obama could have lost.

There's no shortage of hick Mayberry USA types in this state --- haulin hay and hangin sheet rock during the week and boatin on the weekends with their 12packs. They're all fundamental republicans born and raised by simple folk just like 'em.

But isn't it interesting. I like coming in here to hear about the petty shit at city hall and the minority doings.

And over at that one chick's place to see the republican rants.

I haven't seen any redneck sites tho...they don't have electricity yet out in their counties. So for them, go racing or to the boat show, or listen to Shanin & Parks because most of their guests are rural types, based on how they sound.

Now I'm not criticizing the simple folk ya understand. I like to eat and I'm grateful for their work, I like my walls sanded smooth where ya can't see the seams, and whatever I do, I ALWAYS wave at the snow plow driver who gets me to work!

Just tell them not to talk politics because if ya can't think too WELL, then don't try to think TOO MUCH!

    30. Knocked on Doors3/28/09, 6:13 PM

Spark stole the entire voter list from the Obama campaign in Missouri. Cutting it down to a Kansas City subset will not be difficult. All that calling and all that door knocking where people's contact information was verified and issue stands identified, now will support a big, bigot and his slug-like wife.

      Organize America should sue Spark.

      ReplyDelete
    31. To the person who said that yancy Davis did nothing for the campaign: I know you are a liar because I worked with her every week for months and saw all that she and Aretta Shannon did for the Obama campaign. As a matter of fact, those 2 women were holding rallies and registration drives with HUGE turnouts that registering hundreds of voter. Spark hired a bunch of white people who didn't do half the work those 2 ladies did and I for one, can vouch for that.

Little birdie said that Spark was fired from the police force for falisifying paperwork. He was also fired from his real estate job afterwards because the guys is just plain incompetent.

    33. I wish the "Out-of-State Anonymous Intern" would have the guts to identify themselves so that I can shut them up and shut them down real quick. This idiot is probably one of the very ones I never paid attention to, who don't know nothing about me and probably did not register more than 3 voters a day or hold any house meetings with more than 5 people who are unrelated to them). How do you know what was offered to me and what wasn't? But you're right, no we weren't offered paid positions despite all that we did. We even had our kids out there helping us. I brought Dick Gregory here for the campaign on his birthday. Arretta and I took him up to meet the staff and volunteers at the white folks at the Clay Country Democratic headquarters. He gave them such inspiration and showed them so much love that he had some of them in tears. we took him to Papa Lews and did the same for black folks. We worked with EVERYBODY and spent a lot of time and our own money doing so. Arretta and I even felt sorry for the one chubby white boy from Iowa and let him come to a couple of our events because no one would help him-not Spark or any of the other PAID staff, etc. We would give him some of our numbers and some of others who couldn't keep up. I'm so glad I captured a lot of our work on pics and video b/c I knew that these fools wound try to take credit for stuff we did or say that we didn't do anything at all. We went all over the city and worked with people from all walks of life. They tried to send other people to businesses, organizations and neighborhoods where we'd been to establish relationships and they couldn't do what we did. They even had the nerve to keep contacting us to help them do their jobs. It didn't take a lot of education or experience to work for the campaign in the lower ranks. And some of these fools are still contacting me to this day to help them on other stuff now that the election is over. If Spark ever ran for office, I'd gladly help his opponent's campaign. Nobody that I talked to had anything good to say about him except Ajamu Webster(who is all talk and full of crap too). I have no doubt that it was Ajamu who helped Coko's lazy, unqualified, crybaby behind get APPOINTED to the school board. She need to stop calling and emailing me because she ain't got nothing coming this way... DO YOUR JOB YOURSELF SWEETIE! Lloyd Daniel told me about the white boys in Columbia who Spark hired and had to fire because they were inflating their numbers and forging time sheets and other documents, I had to talk Regina McCurry out of not going over his head because of his "sub-par performance" and lack of connection in the Black community. She was even going to get Al Sharpton involved. Riccardo Lucas said that he didn't see how Spark was the Deputy State Director when he had little to no community organizing or political experience. Terry Riley called him a liar and said that he lives off of his wife. Eric Wesson said that Spark told him that the campaign didn't need to adertise with the black press. And I think Spark is still a double agent. Why didn't he get a job offer from the Obama Administration if he was so effective? He probably meant to make him lose Missouri. Please don't play...

      ReplyDelete
    34. PS, how can Spark be an expert on education when he's never been an educator and how can he be an expert on economic development when ain't two nickels to rub together and lives off of a woman? People you're being took, had, hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, lied to, miseducated and mislead...PLEASE WAKE UP!
